Famicom Disk System

Here we have all the games in the Famicom Disk System Section.
Famicom Disk System
Action
A superb Nihon centric title as our hero (looking like a Shaolin priest) launches a series of slight of foot attacks: leaping ninja like between tile like platforms and dispatching fireballs in the direction of silent assassin adversaries. Plenty of hidden power ups to give a welcome boost to the quest that has a mystic, Buddhist feel to proceedings. Certainly the giant statue head has a oriental look: but dont admire for too long as its tongue comes out and it jumps around the screen. Known by its full title of Meiwaku Jiin Dababa.

Sports
Solid overhead kick around with Konamis fine flair for presentation and good arcade mechanics to ensure the ball hits the back on the net with frequent regularity. Definite promotion contender.
Famicom Disk System
Platform
Delightfully old school platform shooting as Square begins on its quest to become one of the finest developers in the world. Humble roots can be found here, but the attention to detail shines as beautifully as the sunshine level. Also known as Hao Kun no Fushigina Tabi and known in the West as Mystery Quest.
Famicom Disk System
Simulation
Nicely presented Mahjong game from the big N as those with a penchant for the Chinese tile game get to fill their boots on the underground Famicom Disk System.
Famicom Disk System
Shoot Em Up
Colourful and highly-original piece of programming and musical score as rhythm action meets shoot ’em up. Players fire projectiles to the beat, or at least to the clue of the musical score, to progress through the shooting levels. Incredibly fresh, even today.
Famicom Disk System
Sports
A well established golf manga and a game make for a good combo in Genki’s humble opinion with the colour and intrigue of the manga source material adding fun and adventure as players challenge Grand Canton still ravines alongside the robotic, clean cut lines of the futuristic level.
Famicom Disk System
Sports
Cracking Nintendo take on table tennis with only animated hands and bats representing the player making for a fast flowing game. The crown lap up the action with plenty of applause on the corresponding side to the players and a certain cheeky monkey appearing in the crowd.
Famicom Disk System
Action
A game a few decades ahead of its time as the hero charges head on into the 3D scrolling screen giving adversaries a wide berth and making long jumps that would put Chris Tomlinson to shame. The end of level boss requires a bit of the old school shooting skills to be tested as Square defines another genre early in its development. Known in the West as 3D WorldRunner.

Sports
Genki must confess we don’t come across too many sets for the FDS – this one fits two games in Volleyball and Pro Wrestle onto one disk. Nintendo have done a sterling job to ensure the two games well represent the sport with graphics that are the right size to keep it playable, but also sufficient attention to detail.
