Game Gear

Here we have all the games in the Game Gear Section.
Game Gear
Puzzle
A very competent conversion of Sega’s gem drop puzzle game, perfectly suited to the small screen. Nice, colourful, big sprites and cheery music.
Game Gear
A Bit Special
The bizarre Crayon Shinchan world gets an appropriately off-kilter selection of mini games to savour in that unique graphical style like a child’s doodles. Great variety: from pumping balloons to a fun fair shoot out via digging for treasure on the beach.
Game Gear
RPG
Middle Eastern themed RPG quest with great realisation of the gaming world in its Eastern splendour. As chats with guards soon reveal, all is not well in the State of Denmark, well Arabia at least. Plenty of sailing the high seas and sword swash buckling in this very tidy adventure. Known in Japan as Sadam Crusaders.
Game Gear
Action
A break out game in which the paddles scroll vertically along the screen so as to be able to progress attacking enemies on the way. The paddle can also be rotated vertically and players are blessed with a second paddle to be able to keep the ball in play. Gothic theme like Devil Crash.
Game Gear
Shooter
Sound conversion of the 360 degree rotating arcade machine that came with appropriately placed panic button for those not quite up to making it in Top Gun. Each level demands a quota of enemy fighter planes or tanks be taken out to progress within the time limit. Deft pilots will find themselves able to stash away a few hard earned greenbacks to bolster weaponry and boost armoury.
Game Gear
Simulation
Good roster of rogues and more respectable folk to take on in games of Poker and on the slot machine. The UFO Catcher crane game is good fun and the memory challenge gives the brain a good work out long before the DS. Roulette, Black Jack, Billiards and more make this purchase not so much of a gamble.
Game Gear
Sports
Reminiscent of World Stadium on the C64 if that doesn’t give away Genki as a bit of a veteran with less hair than Sir Clive Sinclair. Covers all bases with aplomb.
Game Gear
Sports
Football blast from the J League’s hey day playing a nice, arcadey kick about. A real laugh in two player mode using the link cable, but arguments may ensue over who gets to be Gary’s Grampus.
Game Gear
Sports
Joe Montana was quite a player and few will have missed his charming scaled-down version of the Mega Drive title which was as popular as Genesis back in the 90s. Simple interface and good action with fun two player bouts make this the football game to recommend to fans of any shape of ball.
Game Gear
RPG
The final release of the four part series on the Game Gear never made it overseas and always seems in high demand from collectors. It is based on part A of the A.R.S. PC versions, yet the story has been re-jigged. Yet its not just down to coming late in the handhelds cycle that this instalment is in demand: Compiles composed hand and slick presentation is present throughout as it guides you by the hand through its 3D dungeons like a kind Carbuncle. The Bakeshon of the title is a pun on the Japanese pronunciation English word vacation, with “bake” meaning ghost…
Game Gear
Sports
Very solid slugger for fans with enough to recommend it to those not so into the World Series. Newspaper back pages are often dedicated to the man Nomo (despite him plying his trade in America), so it’s only natural that we have a realistic Sega Sports title, packed full of Major League players and stats in his honour.
Game Gear
Simulation
Travel Japan racking up the mahjong tiles for a game of the ancient Chinese table game. Smoothly presented with some nice graphical sugar to wash down the serious business of the game.
Game Gear
Sports
Game Gear slug fest with focus on the pugilists from a side on perspective. A fine roster of boxers to select of different nationalities, if not perhaps a little stereotyped in the retro game way.
Game Gear
Sports
Colourful golf game with a tropical feel to the courses, or perhaps Genki has been spending too much time in the sand? Still there are at least a good smattering of palms trees which were also given quite a through inspection in our play test. Part of the Meisaku Collection.
Game Gear
Simulation
Enjoy the legend of Momotaro which is a well known fairytale deep in the Japanese psyche and rich in oni demons and intriguing cultural references in this card and dice based title.
Game Gear
Sports
Whilst not always obeying the laws of physics, Super Monaco 2 has some fine circuits to hone the drivers handling skills, even if its firmly arcade in its approach. Includes the World GP with its mighty challenge to make sure its you spraying the champagne, not down in the pits.

Game Gear

Popular Game Gear Mahjong series with an intriguing roster of characters with which to lay down tiles.
Game Gear
Sports
Realistic representative of rounders from Sega Sports, packed full of updated Major League players and stats. Very solid slugger for fans with enough to recommend it to those not so into the World Series.

Game Gear
Simulation
Introduced by the little Known Gear Kun, this quiz will test participants their knowledge of reading palms, ability of recognise a jumbled picture and test language skills such as identifying where its a Thunderbird or a sun visor that protects ones eyes from the sun (it works better in Japanese.)
Game Gear
Action
True to the classic source material as Tom must chase Jerry to the end of the platform level avoiding the usual madcap mayhem that usually ensues. Beautiful animation, all the more impressive when the rich colour palette and size of sprites are considered.
Game Gear
One on One Beat Em Up
Mini version packs a pocket punch with nice animation and a good recreation of the feel of its big brother, if not quite being able to pull off all the specials with the limited joypad. Very collectable with the success this series has enjoyed.
Game Gear
Sports
It would appear the Japanese seem to love their thoroughbreds almost as much as the Irish. Ample evidence here as players are charged with raising a young foal and all that goes with it to build up for that slap-your-derriere final furlong of the seasons climax. Help your horse progress in this thoroughbred racer from the CRI stable.

Feudal Japan based war sim from the illustrious and infamous Wolf Team showing plenty of promise. Trying to unite the warring fractions of a sliced up country requires the strongest of armies and a legion of loyal samurai.
