Sega Saturn

Here we have all the games in the Sega Saturn Section.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Impressive 3D and scaling for a machine not meant to be suited to the third dimension. Crystal Dynamics shows off its 3DO programming knowledge gained on the Saturn with plenty of use of the official license in names and digitised avatars.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Based on the anime where modern day Tokyo and the supernatural world collide with supernatural goings on wherever Pai seems to go. A digital adventure not for the faint hearted. Stylish anime graphics.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
A well drawn anime adventure with three small stars each about 15cm in height. Makes good use of the difference in size between these three ladies and the rest of the games characters reminiscent of the Borrowers or Arriety, as the Miyzaki anime was known.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Full of footage of Ai performing her fine repertoire and in-depth interviews.
Sega Saturn
RPG
Smart rendered graphics in this self-proclaimed romantic RPG.
Sega Saturn
RPG
From the PC Engine producer of the misty eyed Seiya Monogatari comes another fine RPG to pull the heart strings in an uplifting score. The mechanics are purely 16Bit with beautifully detailed sprites, yet speech and well drawn avatars add much to the action with some superb voice acting. Nostalgic RPG gaming, but there is nothing wrong with that.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Romance and adventure all set to a typical game music (like you get lift music, apart from game music) and an imperial, fantasy setting: think Heroic Legend of Arslan anime. Ticks all the right boxes and a popular series that spanned onto the PCFX and Playstation.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Not so much a game, more a demonstration of the CD format and its capacity to display aquarium style tanks on your TV in line with company receptions of the era. It also permits ventures into more uncharted waters to see dolphins and sting rays.
Sega Saturn
One on One Beat Em Up
All female cast including a wrestler and a gymnast (with guest appearance of the headmaster) set in a Japanese High School right down to the kanji characters on the blackboard. Massive combos and finishing moves possible when the 120% power bar is ready.
Sega Saturn
Puzzle
A really off kilter action puzzle title based on the antics of Japanese anime oyaji Bakabon and so drawing on a rich tradition of characters from the series. Gameplay is of the vertically scrolling Puyo Puyo variety with very imaginative and distracting backgrounds.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
The prequel to the yellow label ‘Bakuretsu Hunter R’ is alot tamer, but still plenty to recommend here to anime fans.
Sega Saturn
Puzzle
Fans of the Jaguar CD may be as rare as the snow leopard, but those familiar with the add on may recognise this as Baddies given a Japanese make over by Banpresto. Players control little bald dudes within their own world in a fun simulation that certainly cant be accused of taking itself too seriously.
Sega Saturn
A Bit Special
Bishojo means beautiful girl and there are plenty in this variety game that lets you sample many a mini game: from poker to roulette via black jack, spot the difference even mole bashing. Well presented with plenty of beauty pageant hostesses.
Sega Saturn
RPG
Delightfully illustrated isometric RPG with exquisite attention to lighting and tasty anime representations of the fantasy, gothic characters. Update of this popular Saturn game was made for the Dreamcast and comes from a rich NEC stable.
Sega Saturn
RPG
Based on the anime this RPG utilises the license to good effect by having fully animated battle scenes. The overall look of the game is more nostalgic with nicely detailed sprites. Warrants the yellow label warning.
Sega Saturn
Quiz
A good test of reading skills for budding kanji students, this quiz game is introduced by a youthful Colonel Sanders lookalike. Answering is multiple choice.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Polygon based tennis title with some detailed textures and nice touches such as the players walking on and off for their drink of orange squash during the break. Not quite Virtua Tennis on the Saturn, but an impressive interpretation non the less.
Sega Saturn
Puzzle
Clear the screen of coloured blocks by detonating them in chains to reveal the picture behind capturing various cityscapes and world-famous locales. Tactical thinking is required to generate the right chains and clear the screen. Strangely compelling.
Sega Saturn
Stimulation
Love simulation game from KID – experts in the field. Sizzling enough to warrant a Red Label adults only warning.
Sega Saturn
Stimulation
Love adventure with a wee bit extra that deems this title worthy of the yellow label warning. Interested parties should have good kanji ability or good luck if they hope to avoid offending Yuki, Ayako, Hikaru et al.

Sega Saturn
Shoot Em Up
Arcade classics 1942, 1943 and 1943 Kai on the one CD which is great to see as, aside from the 1941 Super Grafx conversion, until this release the home versions had been a tad disappointing. Thankfully Capcom’s back catalogue is well worth cashing in on.
Sega Saturn
Platform
One of the first releases on the Saturn and fondly remembered by the Genki team. Nice, colourful 2D platformer forced into 2.5D by the hysteria for 3D graphics when the Saturn and Playstation were released.
Sega Saturn
Shoot Em Up
Exemplifying all the hit points that made the Saturn a mean 2D machine. Cute sprite graphics and good pacing. One for every Saturn blaster head’s collection.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Jaw dropper in the pre-Saturn release media presentations. Kenji Endo’s opus is full of turns and twists and strange events. Don’t play before bed!
Sega Saturn
Puzzle
The Japanese title translates as ‘Big Tile Fort’, a puzzle game using the mahjong tiles.
Sega Saturn
Shooter
Claustrophobic answer to Kileak the Blood on the Playstation as the dytopic future is invested with plenty of firepower from the mechas armoury. The first person, cockpit view from the mech works a treat and adds to the tension with nice attention to detail as interference affects the monitor view.
Sega Saturn
Sports
ST-V arcade athletics fest made a real impression on the Saturn with smooth polygon graphics and all the button bashing thrills and spills of the arcade. Where as running events are simple button bashers, timing on the hurdles for example requires precision jumping and a break from frantic button pummelling. Comes into its own in multiplayer.
Sega Saturn
Shooter
Cavernous underground tunnels and sprawling over land arenas to explore in this fine 3D shooter with exploratory elements. Picked up quite a following in the day.
Sega Saturn
Stimulation
Expertly realised animation shows the power of hardware in the right hands in this yellow label adventure. All is not what it seems on the island of Desire.
