Dreamcast
A Bit Special
A feisty demo disk with playable samples of Cool Boarders Burrrn, Shutoko Battle, Sonic Adventure International, Soul Calibur and Chu Chu Rocket. Also featured are movie demos of Shenmue, Space Channel 5, Dream Flyer, Virtua Striker 2 and Seaman.
Famicom Cart
Shooter
Run and gun action from the past masters SNK as players can almost feel the grenade pin gripped between their teeth. Being from the day when games were a challenge rather than a steady progression, the action is tough and the onslaughts relentless. Thankfully tanks and helicopters can be commandeered in order to progress.
Nintendo 64
Sports
Cute and cuddly Nintendo themed tennis title with a devious undercurrent of tough, uncompromising AI that’ll only allow those with a full array of shots and the intelligence to use them to reach the pinnacle of the sport. A smash in four player – especially the Bowser stage that comes complete with Mario Kart power ups that’d surely bring a smile to even the most conservative Wimbledon spectator.
Super Famicom
Platform
Based on the antics of the TV anime series jammed packed with ninjas and kunoichi, or female ninjas. Genki is a sucker for any ninja game, especially in the colourful SFC style. The setting of the anime is in a ninja school where you train to become a fully fledged assassin, but not without a few mishaps on the way.
Playstation
A Bit Special
Japan exclusive that was followed up on the PS2 with player friendly front end to ease you into controlling a friendly robot. It soon becomes second nature to control the robot and gameplay is full of the delight a mechanised friend would bring. Innovative and enjoyable, a refreshing title.
Playstation
Simulation
A growing up simulator with Kano the star as layers celebrate events like their birthday together. The real selling point is the use of the Pocket Station to ensure players never have to leave home without her. Unfortunately for Kano, cooking and studying are on the agenda as well as playing.
Playstation
Simulation
J Pop boy band Project V6 have a fine repertoire of tracks and plenty of them can be sampled in this Playstation dating game which was a forefather to the boom in dating games aimed at the girls.
Playstation
A Bit Special
Players take on the role of caveman and explore the landscape building up their own and the tribes abilities allowing them to swim or boost the fertility rate. The aim is to build a tower of mammoth tusks towards the sun. Highly original from an era when anything seemed possible in gaming terms. Known in Japan as Taiyou no Shippo.
Playstation
Simulation
Drawing deeply on Middle Eastern mythology comes a smooth war simulator which is no Tower of Babylon. Set in ancient Persia with historically sensitive setting and rekindled recently for a Playstation download.
Game Gear
Simulation
Feudal Japan based war sim from the illustrious and infamous Wolf Team showing plenty of promise. Trying to unite the warring fractions of a sliced up country requires the strongest of armies and a legion of loyal samurai.
Game Gear
Sports
Reminiscent of World Stadium on the C64 if that doesn’t give away Genki as a bit of a veteran with less hair than Sir Clive Sinclair. Covers all bases with aplomb.
Game Gear
RPG
Middle Eastern themed RPG quest with great realisation of the gaming world in its Eastern splendour. As chats with guards soon reveal, all is not well in the State of Denmark, well Arabia at least. Plenty of sailing the high seas and sword swash buckling in this very tidy adventure. Known in Japan as Sadam Crusaders.
Game Gear
Sports
Whilst not always obeying the laws of physics, Super Monaco 2 has some fine circuits to hone the drivers handling skills, even if its firmly arcade in its approach. Includes the World GP with its mighty challenge to make sure its you spraying the champagne, not down in the pits.
Game Gear
Sports
Realistic representative of rounders from Sega Sports, packed full of updated Major League players and stats. Very solid slugger for fans with enough to recommend it to those not so into the World Series.
Game Gear
Shooter
Sound conversion of the 360 degree rotating arcade machine that came with appropriately placed panic button for those not quite up to making it in Top Gun. Each level demands a quota of enemy fighter planes or tanks be taken out to progress within the time limit. Deft pilots will find themselves able to stash away a few hard earned greenbacks to bolster weaponry and boost armoury.
GameBoy Original
Simulation
A refreshing and imaginative action RPG set on the islands and foliage of a far away land making for unusual situations and adversaries. Being tossed overboard whilst your darling is zipping away kidnapped on a boat is not the best foot to get off on.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Known as RBI Baseball 3 in the US of A. And you can almost smell the corn dogs and popcorn. Just ensure any catches are left to the players and not the crowd reaching over the barriers as happened in one crucial match we would hate to remind the culprit of…
Famicom Cart
Sports
Known as RBI Baseball across the pond, this sports slugger certainly covers all bases with some nice touches such as the homerun fireworks. But the secret of Moneyball is not the big slugs, but the percentages.
Famicom Cart
Action
Famicom arcade conversion in fine fettle as participants have to run a gauntlet of futuristic obstacles to get to the other end of the course. Hurdles must be lept, ramps and booster squares propel the runner to the goal and its possible to leap from power square to power square in order to reach the finish line in record time.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Happy memories of plugging the cart into the back of the C64 come flooding back. (You couldn’t beat a game that was guaranteed to work on the Commodore 64.) Plenty of spit and polish being a Nintendo title with nice attention to detail such as the cheerleaders. Misty eyed Famicom nostalgia.
Sega Saturn
Shooter
Update of the Mega CD release sees great visual strides taken as you fly your helicopter on a variety of 3D missions unleashing some almighty firepower from the skies.
