Playstation
Puzzle
A cute and cuddly Puyo Puyo clone mixed with plenty of fresh spices of its own bringing to make a sweet mull of an action puzzle title. Includes time attack and practise modes along with the saccharine sweet story mode.
Playstation
Simulation
A cracking title in which you get to become a master crane operator through the various stages and challenges including pulling out fish as in the child’s toy fishing game. There is also an expert course to graduate aswell as the grind of work mode where going about your duties is strangely gratifying. Only in Japan, but well worth a spin. Known as Crane Master ni Narou in Japan. See also Shovel Master and Machine master in the Kenki Ippai series.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
The title translates as Pacific Storm and features as you no doubt guessed, a take on the events of the Pacific Ocean during World War II. The scene is set with grainy footage of the war (and that’s nothing to do with the Saturns video capabilities.) Cut scenes use computer modelling to replicate the action. Saturn completists will no doubt value the authentic appearing, canvas booklet which replicates war time document holders.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
Bandai kicks loose with this instalment and the look has changed from the prequel to a cel shaded approach rather than a straight forward polygon-isation of the anime series. The developers seem to be relaxing into the roll and as such there is plenty of humour to savour too.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
Beautiful ‘new age’ anime graphics with a cel-shaded, mean and moody look making this a must have for fans of the Naruto series. Slick presentation and seamless cut scenes as you’d expect from an anime tie in. Ginormous o.t.t. special moves and solid play mechanics mean even those not aware of the series will have plenty to get their teeth (and fists) into here.
Couple of slight disk scratches. Tiny bit of wear on manual edge.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Pachinko simulator. Pachinko is a game where small steel balls must be caught in order to win prizes. Unfortunately with the demise of the Dreamcast online servers its no longer possible to win prizes online.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Pachinko title based on the infamous and retro Go Nagai manga series with some snazzy looking tables in a retro chic way as GC rendering meets a pen and paper drawn manga.
Super Famicom
Sports
Four fine footballing games in the shape of J League Super Soccer, J League Excite Stage 95, J League Prime Goal and J League Prime Goal 2. Excite Stage is a side perspective football game with top tier teams and PK mode seen from both keepers and strikers perspective. Fabulous four player scraps are possible with a multitap and the game is also Barcode Battler II compatible, so get scanning those cans of Baked Beans. A great addition to a value package.
PC Engine HU Card
Sports
Enjoyable game of rounders with PC Engine sponsored stadiums and teams based on their real life counterparts, just with slight adjustments to avoid litigation. So forget playing as Hiroshima Carp, best go for the Cark.
PC Engine HU Card
Simulation
Comedy adventure involving top spy ‘Sadakichi Seven’ trying to capture the Natto (fermented beans) organisation.
PC Engine HU Card

Fantasy three – quarter perspective RPG set in a European country with plenty of wizards, witches, black magic and sorcery.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Giant mechs battling with all the panache shown in the anime series. Carefully select your team depending on the task ahead to dominate earth and space.
Super Famicom
Shooter
This cart will get you in the mood for blasting with three variations on two shooting games. Blastris includes shooting mole like creatures that pop up and reshaping Tetris style blocks. Lazer Blazer is a straight forward blaster. Good variation of the light gun shooter format.
Super Famicom
Sports
Plenty of hard work is required in getting the shoulder barges and sliding tackles in to get the ball in a decent shooting position. A real battle of attrition in two player mode. The midfield general of football titles.
PC Engine HU Card
A Bit Special
A lively version of the popular Chinese table game (Wai Wai refers to a bit of a wild do in high spirits) made so thanks to the inclusion of some colourful characters from idol star to nun, a rather camp looking baseball player, a race driver complete with helmet, an artist and a policewoman. Good fun version of the game.
PC Engine HU Card
A Bit Special
Enjoy the legend of Momotaro which is a well known fairytale deep in the Japanese psyche and rich in oni demons and intriguing cultural references. Just keep an eye on Momotarou as he pops to the local ladies onsen.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
A Bit Special
Given away with PC Engine Magazine in Japan with some fabulous demos though along with the Hyper Catalogue: Winds of Thunder, Crest of Wolf, Fushigi no Umi Nadia, Burai II and Dragon Slayer.
Famicom Cart
RPG
Traverse the lands in your merry band with battles never too far away. The classic Enix fight interface is never celebrated more than in the Dragon Quest series and it remains a cherish memory in many a Japanese household.
Nintendo DS
Simulation
A perfect way to crack into the 1006 essential kanji used in Japanese elementary schools and as such get a real footing in the Japanese language. Regardless of not needing to write, kanji provide the building blocks of the language as they can be pieced together for different meanings; but an understanding of the stand alone meaning can help no end. As endorsed by those dedicated RPG players at Genki.
PS2
Sports
Namco felt the need to ditch the adorable sprites of earlier versions of the series to adjust the series for the PS2 crew. As such the official players of the era and the proper stadiums have been used. Yet the gameplay thankfully remains very familiar and as such it plays like a dream. Henman for champ then.
Playstation
Simulation
Takes a turn based strategic approach to mecha warfare (similar to Front Mission) as opposed to the previous clunky metal shoot ’em ups. Keep an eye on your soldiers for signs of overheating and short circuiting through the cockpit view. Well animated and pretty presentation of the intercom conversations and cut scenes.
