Mega Drive
Puzzle
Sound puzzle title from a thoroughbred Sega stable that allows up to five player mash ups with a multitap. The Egyptian themed one player mode is fun, but its multiplayer where the action really heats up. Special power ups distinguish this from other Columns titles as special jewels trickle down the screen. These can lower your own playing field or raise up your opponents. Nastier jewels send the screen black and white making distinguishing the colours somewhat tricky, or reverse the controls messing with the min, or even flip the playing field upside down. Overall a fine arcade puzzler.
GameBoy Color
RPG
Played as Ippei or Mina charged with clearing the universe of the junk loving Garakutas. Comes in limited edition collectors pack with ‘Full Charger’: a hand held device used to power up your chosen character to special ‘bright’ levels to aid in the RPG quest. In order to change the in game character special items must be tracked down in the expansive towns offering high levels of freedom. Written on the box as Zok Zok Heroes.
Switch
Simulation
The tactical battle simulation based on the PSP incarnations of the games and looking amazing on the souped up hardware. The source material has clearly inspired the developers to attain new heights in its sumptuous appearance with a devilishly cunning gameplay engine underneath the bonnet.

Sega Saturn
Puzzle
All your favourite high school characters in a Puyo Puyo style saccharine sweet puzzle game. Boutique babe Ms. Kagami is a favourite in the Genki office.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Sound pinball game which avoids being over ambitious in keeping the full table view at all times rather than zooming in on a specific section making multi balls work a treat. Good table designs and cheery, pool room style tunes.
Sega Saturn
RPG
3D RPG with clever isometric perspective which clearly says not a 16Bit RPGer. Yet under the gloss with the anime intro and avatars and the battle pyrotechnics, the plot is as well weaved as a plot of scalp on Mr Shane Warnes hair, harking of a bygone golden era.
Mega Drive
Sports
Tidy little retro racer covering the formula one world circuit tour with split screen two player mode and some tight corners. Human were the 16Bit masters of the F1 season – an ever present on the winners podium.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Super natural goings on to this seemingly innocent adventure add that air of Japanese horror and spine tingling chills.
Sega Saturn
One on One Beat Em Up
Kazumi and co lock horns in the original Dead or Alive. A true classic on the Saturn. Revisited by Team Ninja for a make over proving well balanced gameplay withstands the test of time.
Sega Saturn
Action
Punching through the land and dropping bombs to create gaps to squeeze through the gaps to collect the treasure on offer before the timer runs out. A vast screen on offer and all viewable without scrolling so players can plan their assault against the clock. Superb old school entertainment.
Sega Saturn
A Bit Special
Genki has a question, is your Japanese good enough or are you feeling lucky enough to find out why this game merits the red badge warning? Includes quiz and CG Gallery.
Sega Saturn
RPG
Smart rendered graphics in this self-proclaimed romantic RPG.
Sega Saturn
Stimulation
Working at the Pia Carrot cafe over the summer holidays may not be as dull as it sounds with this dating sim warranting the Yellow Label warning. Trying to focus on washing the dishes may prove more difficult than first thought.
Sega Saturn
One on One Beat Em Up
Features six of the most popular voice actresses in Japan to bolster the blocky early Virtua Fighter polygon graphics. Follow up to the saucy Pretty Fighter X.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
From developers of Megami Tensei series, this off shoot has sumptuous graphics oozing atmosphere and plays in a similar mould to the Tensei series; as such recommended to fans.
Mega Drive
Shoot Em Up
Gritty World War styled horizontally scrolling shooter that positively zips along besides the parallax skies, cliffs or well drawn clouds. As well as the gunning ability of the plane, budding pilots will have their bombing skills tested too as enemy boats zip along the ocean to try and get a pot shot in. Wears its old school credentials proudly and few would be able to roll up to reveal a more impressive tattoo at the retro bar of gaming.
PS2
A Bit Special
The player takes the role of photographer and snaps the models in various poses to try and get the best shots. The models poses and expressions can be manipulated to give better shots.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
A very stylishly executed one on one blood bath with executed being the operative word. An extreme level of violence remains true to the source material. And its an impeccable level of achievement with it being blatantly obvious the amount work having gone into making this a really special tribute to the license that holds its value very well down the back street game store. Some really gory finishing moves can be unleashed with dexterous button sequences. And the design of the in game pugilists is of such a standard that they are used for the cut scenes. Players can unlock a movie-making mode for real fans of the series and there is also a time attack mode which sees our Kenshiro seeing just how many foes can be dispatched in a minute. Subtitled Seiki Matsuyu Seishu Densetsu.
Playstation
Action
The Directors Cut has an easier mode for beginners with more life, more weapons, double the bullets and ink ribbons to save. It also features an Arrange Mode with new costumes for Chris, Jill and Rebecca plus different locations for the items and enemy attacks. Those extra bullets are a real treat- Genki for one does not miss the empty, spinning barrel of the pistol as a reject from a Romero romp stumbles in for their chunk of flesh. A classic tale retold with some style.
Playstation
RPG
Very interesting results of Square focusing purely on the action RPG and platform gameplay of this title, without the CG graphics we have come to expect. The results are an incredibly playable title – a real joy to savour with plenty of humour. The bosses are skillfully crafted and the use of the clock to alter playing environments a clever touch.
