Sega Saturn
Simulation
Very traditional Japanese take on the tile game with koto music in the background and characters such as geishas and looking like Buddhists priests, if of course their vows would allow them to partake in the game.
Dreamcast
A Bit Special
Voice command led game in which an array of space critters can be bossed around before they start bossing the player. Experimental and great fun for the adventurous.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Sprite based drag racing title with a rich heritage of lighting up the gaming screen with neon and tail lights. Customisation is the key to getting the car over the finish line first with some decent mini games to supplement the action.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Be a winner in the game of life as players progress round the board dealing with the many dilemmas life may throw up. Initially players decide their appearance, gender and type of car ina nice nod to personalise the game to the players character. Known in Japanese as the DX Jinsei Game.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Based on the Happy Lesson manga where a student is adopted by five of his teachers with suitably fun frolics ensuing, comes a feature filled fan disk with Happy Slot Machine gaming, a Happy Gallery showcasing the stylised lines of the artistes and Happy Net where like minded fans of the series could gather.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Fruit machine simulator that took advantage of the DC networks whilst available to give slot machine fans a cheaper alternative to feeding their habit. Tidy Jungle Master theme to the machine in line with the fruity feel.
XBOX 360
Shoot Em Up
Feels like there is a Treasure influence at times with vehicles nipping along just as you thought there couldn’t possibly be any more onscreen action. Highly imaginative too with spooky old tree bosses yet a comforting feel of the assuringly familiar zipping over the ruins of what looks like Altered Beasts levels: the mark of the developers Hardcore credentials. Really establishes a fine pacing perhaps a little too fast when being chased by a Bull or two, but we wont ruin it any more. A definite thumbs up.
Super Famicom
Platform
Based on the antics of the TV anime series jammed packed with ninjas and kunoichi, or female ninjas. Genki is a sucker for any ninja game, especially in the colourful SFC style. The setting of the anime is in a ninja school where you train to become a fully fledged assassin, but not without a few mishaps on the way.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Dodgy little FMV sequence with heavy sponsors influence: it could only be a fishing game. Fishermen and ladies get to take their boat out into the desired location keeping an eye on the depth metre in a cute, little sprite section. A line is then cast and those legendary fighting bass await as the sound of summer and cicadas rings therapeutically in the ears.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
A nice little addition for the dedicated Saturn cone head collector with this one level demo to whet the appetite.
Slick card presentation case with glossy finish containing instructions and shots.
Dreamcast
A Bit Special
Perhaps it was playing this on his import Dreamcast that Mr Cowell first came upon his idea for a TV show? The producer must choose a budding artist from the host of auditioning wannabes. Then the real work starts in making a song and getting it to Top of the Pops.
Mega Drive
Sports
Conversion of the popular Japan exclusive, early nineties coin op in which players get to focus on pitching and batting the baseball and the fielding is kindly taken care of by the rest of the CPU controlled team.
Playstation
Puzzle
Last Compile release in the series which compiles the Mega Drive versions of Puyo Puyo and Puyo Puyo 2 adding four player modes and a Pocket Station interaction mode. The real bonus is the quest mode which allows players to challenge the imaginative inhabitants of the Puyo world to battles in order to progress.
Merchandise
Figure
Five types including the UFO, Squid, Crab, Octopus and Cannon each in four colours to pay tribute to the 30th Anniversary of the coin hungry monster arcade. Also includes a cracking little sticker full of retro chic.
PS2
Action
Sky diving on a snowboard to pull off tricks through sheer joypad dexterity. Sub game is a Pilot Wings style ‘Beat Balloon.’
Dreamcast
Simulation
Mahjong game which allowed for online play and the associated banter that goes with it through the use of the various calls, such as ‘reach!’ or ‘tea!’ when in a fix. Well presented with a useful perspective on the table tile action.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
In a very enjoyable move, Kamen Rider is compatible with the Tatakon drum controller which is used to generate the ‘pure sound’ from the series capable of defeating the demons. This can be executed equally well with the Dual Shock however, as you put paid to the finest demons in rubber suits the TV series can offer.
PS2
Action
Looking like a tribute to the mighty Jet Set Radio is a compliment indeed with super fly, fresh, cel shaded graphics full of garish colours and free form surrounds to skate or die for. Comes with a finger board attachment for the Dual Shock to make the skate moves players pull off all the more sweetly rewarding. A quirky skate title that stand out from the crowd and Koei should be applauded for that. Also known as Yanya Caballista City Skater.
Gamecube
Action
A fun, all-action racing game with super deformed characters from the Ultraman and Kamen Rider roster making up the majority of the starting line with other well know live action heroes thrown in to the mull. Courses take a variety of routes even through homes and the bath house at times and the emphasis is on fun rather than a serious race. And the humour combined with the colourful look produce a worthy import cracker. Can be translated as Bike Hero.
Super Famicom
Shooter
A squashed down version of the mecha robot machines taking on a array of dark knights across varied locales from deep space to the expanses of the desert. The action is shooting based with plenty of close combat making good use of the weighty license.
Super Famicom
Platform
Bright and breezy platformer in the traditional 16Bit style with bold, colourful characters full of well-animated expression. In an unusual twist Taruroto uses his tongue to eat blocks and whack away enemies. Recommended to fans of the genre. Subtitled Magic Adventure.
