Sega Saturn
Shoot Em Up
An interesting look into the psyche of the Japanese game developer with some bizarre and often culturally confused imagery ensuring the action remains fresh and invigorating. This is actually a compilation of the two Super Famicom versions Parodius and Ultimate Parodius souped up for the Saturn. Also known as Gokujyo Parodius.
Merchandise
Merchandise
Delightful and stylish set of playing cards as Nintendo gets back to grass roots and its original form of the business. This set is a tribute to Mario’s Famicom years and looks snazzy in his early Famicom chic.

Nintendo gets back to its core business with these superb cards for fans of the Splatoon series. Colourful and capturing the cheeky, fun essence of the game to a T.
PS4
Shoot Em Up
Famed Fighter Jet Blaster Raiden IV gets a Mikado Game Centre remix with various modes and selectable ships plus a soundtrack so full of guitar riffs you’ll end up playing on a knee slide, if the projectile hell doesn’t break you first. Superb execution from a thoroughbred shooter stable that keeps on giving.
PS4
Shoot Em Up
With the series having started as Moon Cresta, followed by Terra Cresta, we now have Sol Cresta and the outer space galaxy setting looks superb as a background to the frantic on screen blasting action. Vertically scrolling and making fine use of modern hardware to flip around some serious hardware that our vessel must take down. Great to see so many fine shooters being released for all to savour.
GameBoy Color
RPG
Explore the alien world in this colourful RPG full of unusual monsters as the Mon Colle Knights try and find the six artefacts to link the alien world to Earth.
Super Famicom
Platform
Just like buses, another delightful looking Super Famicom game comes along and gamers of a certain vintage feel their fingertips feeling a lot less arthritic. Kaizou Chounin Shubibinman has fine heritage on the PC Engine and is known as Shockman in the West. This SFC re-release is a very exciting development that will hopefully be well supported and keep the trend going.
Mega Drive
Rhythm
Famed for its Famicom revival, Columbus Circle turns its fair hand to the 16Bit circuit with impressive results. Based on a rhythm action premise, there are four games; baseball relies on hitting in time to the beat, the Space Invaders style shooting is again in time to the rhythm, the platform action requires jumping hazards to the music and finally the space defense relies on using the shields at the right time and in the right place. Roll on more MD action.
GameBoy Advance
Simulation
Strangely compelling to train up a sprite-based creature and let them do battle with other monsters down on the farm. Its easy to get attached and hard to watch if taking a pummelling.
Playstation
Sports
Plenty for grapple fans to get to grips with including the special moves and good array of wrestlers to choose from. Subtitled Hyper Tag Match.
PS2
A Bit Special
The superbly drawn anime story zips along and players must choose from phrases to shape the direction of the story. Careful choices are required to not become the headline scandal yourself.
GameBoy Original
Puzzle
Beautiful monochrome simplicity as Popeye takes down Bluto (helped by a can of spinach power up) then negotiates the mazes to rescue Olive Oyl. Fine use of the cherished license.
Playstation
Sports
Intriguing twist on the football scene in that players take a third person perspective view of their teams star man and play the 90 minutes as that single player. Give and go or risk being subbed off after thirty minutes.
Playstation
Platform
Pseudo 2.5 3D look to the platforming action with some delightful Konami classy touches such as making a splash tubing down the waterfall or hitting the backside of the animal to be able to use it for higher reaching jumps. The jungle looks ace and the overall package shows plenty of care and attention.
Famicom Cart
Shooter
Take off and get up to altitude whilst dog fighting other fighter jets at Mach speed in your aviator shades. Impressive frame rate.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Cheery chip-tunes accompany the slick, on-ice action with sound puck physics as it glides across the screen. The players are a good dimension to be able to enjoy a good game and try and avoid a dust up.
Famicom Cart
RPG
Ninjas are never too far away in this feudal Japan RPG with cute sprites and turn based combat very much of its 8Bit style.
Famicom Cart
Puzzle
Line up the colourful characters from the famed Sanrio series, with none more infamous than Hello Kitty herself, in this fine and dandy Puyo Puyo tribute.
Playstation
Sports
Fine ball physics and interesting characters to play against, including the Train Spotting look a like Timothy. Players must be wary of getting hustled when greenbacks are on the table. Not sure what Ronnie would make of the fast-paced soundtrack between shots mind.
Playstation
Action
Megaman takes the leap into 3D platforming and Capcom have applied plenty of polish to avoid the lure of a third dimension lacking in gameplay. Plenty of sub quests and so polished it positively sparkles like an avatars smile.
PS2
Action
Gothic Splendour meets Castlevania style Transylvania as our J Rock style hero slices up all and sundry in order to prevent being over-whelmed. Stylishly executed both in terms of the gameplay and in terms of the hero’s actions.
