GameBoy Advance
Action
Not sure if you can have a platform game in the deep blue sea, but Shark Tale follows the plot of the film with snazzy, digitised cut-scenes as our colourful fish friend negotiates sharks and jelly fish.
Dreamcast
Sports
The ultimate in gaming fantasy escape – a British major title is possible with the appearance of Tim Henman in this slick tennis sim. Reveals its arcade roots in its simplicity to pick up but with a fiendish difficultly gradient after the opening rounds. The finest realistic tennis game. Brilliant with four players.
PS4
Shoot Em Up
Cotton Rock n Roll brings the series into the new generations and it looks very charming for it. Great use of 3D backgrounds and adversaries, but the action remains true to its 2D roots. The star of Umihara Kawase makes a guest appearance riding on an inflated puffer fish. Just what the doctor ordered.

PS4
Shoot Em Up
Famed Fighter Jet Blaster Raiden IV gets a Mikado Game Centre remix with various modes and selectable ships plus a soundtrack so full of guitar riffs you’ll end up playing on a knee slide, if the projectile hell doesn’t break you first. Superb execution from a thoroughbred shooter stable that keeps on giving.
PS2
Simulation
Utilises Fourthview technology allowing recordings to be made in 360 degrees so they can fit in all the members of this all girl band. MM are famed for their bold costumes as much as their girly music such as ‘Love Machine’. Plenty of material of the ever shifting band.
PS2
Simulation
Lots of elevator style music, plenty of shots of blue skies and super sweet voice acting as D3 shows its form in the dating sim arena. Subtitled Sayonara no Mukoukawa.
Virtual Boy
Puzzle
Join Bomberman’s quest to make the golden Bomberman statue his own by winning the three medals. All of the enemies and levels are of a spooky nature, but in a cuddly Bomberman style. Gameplay is in a similar vein to Columns.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Pre rendered FMV graphics to this adventure of the gothic ilk with plenty of mystery and an assistant in an impossibly short China dress. Slick scenes and good voice acting as the mystery eventually unravels.
Playstation
RPG
The painstaking attention to detail and the respectful nod to its Super Famicom forefathers in not radically dragging the RPG into the Playstation era ensured the superb series continued on from strength to strength.
GameBoy Color
Simulation
Enjoy the escapades of Monkey Luffy, a pirate with potent powers from eating the cursed Gum-Gum Fruit, and his hearties in this game packed full of maritime frolics and high jinx just like its anime counterpart. Bizarre doesn’t begin to explain the action with beautiful animation as expected from a giant of the anime world. Subtitled ‘The Phantom Grand Line Adventure.’
Nintendo DS
A Bit Special
Not a game as such but an electronic dictionary with writing recognition thanks to the DS stylus. The equivalent machine would cost significantly more than price of a DS and this cart making it a serious alternative to the Casio WordTank for the budding linguist. Includes Game and Watch titles that can be unlocked as rewards for your hard studies making this the perfect balance between work and play. Also features a kanji quiz such as the different characters for country names. And the writing recognition works well assisting in progressing studies as its simple to look up a kanji character. Both Japanese to English and English to Japanese modes. Great for those import gamers looking to attain the next level.
Figures
Figure
Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong figures produced in a blocky style to replicate the 8Bit era. Adds plenty of retro chic to any desktop.
Gamecube
Action
Koei’s first release on the GameCube packed with the epic battles its name has become synonymous with. Cleverly constructed bosses will have you swaying to avoid their assaults and the enemies are highly imaginative even including a jellyfish. Each playable character has an elemental power as their theme to be summoned as a magical assault in the battlefield, all very strikingly realised. Known in the West as Mystic Heroes.
