Rhythm
Famed for its Famicom revival, Columbus Circle goes for a rhythm action premise. There are four games; baseball relies on hitting in time to the beat, the Space Invaders style shooting is again in time to the rhythm, the platform action requires jumping hazards to the music and finally the space defense relies on using the shields at the right time and in the right place.
Famicom Cart
Platform
Nice scale to the sprites on the platforming world allowing players to take in the potential hazards and escape routes. Known as Agina’s Prophecy.

Action
A Jidaigeki is a historical drama as Kunio takes a trip back in time to enjoy some of Japan’s rich feudal history with samurai and chonmage hairstyles. Our Kunio fits the bill just fine though: equally at home fighting bad dudes down the game centre as unhinged bullies trying to capture his girl.
Famicom Cart
Action
Classic gameplay that has aged well as players must hot foot it up skyscrapers avoiding falling plant pots, helicopters, King Kong and even UFOs. A fall after so much hard work getting up fifty storeys is hard to bear making for some determined, precision gameplay.
Famicom Cart
RPG
Konami shows it class in this action RPG that features possessed hot-dogs and witches set to a skeleton background. Full of those slick touches that announced this company will make gaming waves.
Famicom Cart
Shooter
Run and gun action as players charge into the screen avoiding the pillar boxes, motorbikes and hand grenades as everything including the kitchen sink gets thrown at you to prevent your advance. Its hard not to warm to such gameplay with simple objectives and nothing to blame but your own lack of skill (and possibly army training) for not progressing and meeting the mission goal.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Excruciating detail in this Evangelion game and the fans wouldn’t have it any other way. Superb visuals, sharp avatars and the finest voice actors and actresses bring the Sci Fi world to life.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Mech battle sim with dramatic orchestral score and plenty of zooming in and out to the action. Player avatars and a fine sci-fi plot (well in anime terms) complement the action superbly.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Table top simulator doing a good job of converting the game of Othello to the Dreamcast.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Full of footage of Ai performing her fine repertoire and in-depth interviews.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Life is never dull in the bright and breezy world of the Pia Carrot cafe with adorable staff with plenty to say.
Playstation
RPG
Squaresoft utilises its RPG experience as the Chocobo bird takes centre stage. Well, there is a torch light held to it in the dungeons, if not quite centre stage. Delightful rendered levels.
Mega Drive
Simulation
A Sega strategy title that allows you to choose you characters for your team and then use superior tactics to defeat your rivals.
PS2
Sports
As with each update Konami has worked hard on its game to improve and cement its position as league leader. The instantly recognisable stars of the modern game look more detailed than ever. Opponent AI makes the series’ rivals look like clod hopping donkeys. But it is in providing the raw clay for the player to craft unique goals that deserves the highest praise – never channelling strikers down the same avenue to goal. The Liveware refers to being able to play online and enter Konami cups to become the top player in the whole country.
PS2
Simulation
Great weather effects as drivers whiz through suburban and metropolitan Japan ensure the workers and schoolchildren get to where they need to be on time. Its crucial to keep up speed, but signals and stopping distances must be observed in a land where trains stop to coach markings on the platform. Highly unusual.
Famicom Cart
Platform
Delightful gaming as the wee ninja sprints through platform section to avoid the unwanted attentions of Dharma or sneaking along the sea bed avoiding over zealous octopus. Climbing up the mountain platforms to reach the top dispatching shurikens and the inevitable fall to the base is a good dose of arcade gameplay. Just remember the saying in Japan “Fall down seven time, get up eight times.” (Or twenty seven in Genki’s case…)
Famicom Cart
Platform
A varied platform action title in the style of the colourful Toei animation with the feline hero taking to air balloons, sailing ships and submarines to tackle the platform shooting levels, besides using those famous boots to scale the heights of some levels.
Famicom Cart
RPG
The early potential of Square’s masterpiece realised in a superb piece of programming. Simple commands to attack, block, run or use an item but when he story is so skilfully woven it stands as a tapestry in RPG design. The airship allows players to take to the skies opening up the gaming universe allowing greater freedom without the trekking.
Playstation
RPG
A more compact quest than the open gaming world featured in the initial instalment with players savouring the action through different time lines that cross each other adding to the replay potential. Painstakingly beautiful gaming world that is full of vibrancy thanks to the 2D graphics. Executed with that distinctive Square class that the developer exudes.
Playstation
Simulation
Further evidence of Japanese skills in making spooky psychological software comes courtesy of Human who were busy terrifying gamers well before Capcom’s zombie onslaughts. Graphic murders involving scissors lead you to think you’re next as you point and click light puzzle elements away towards revealing the murderer’s true identity. Occasional appearances of the scissorman will put a chill down your spine and quick thinking is needed to evade his advances. A panic meter can be used if fully charged to escape temporarily however this can only be used three times before becoming exhausted. In game items can be used as weapons, but once used they can’t be restored to the gaming world so quick thinking is a must.
Playstation
Platform
Luscious pastel backgrounds with plenty of soothing green in the foreground as players take on the role of king bee Pinobee. Plenty of nice touches such as the growth in size of our platforming star with lots to savour for the fan of the genre.
Please note this is the Best version. Disk has been lightly buffed. Slight manual cover impressions.
