Playstation
Action
Fun 3D platform escapades from shooter stable Xing which is done in that much loved Playstation style. Bold colours and sweet anime styling with the obligatory Japanese octopus complete with bandana making an appearance. Well worth a look for those that missed it first time round.
PSP
Simulation
Beast battling game with quite a legion of followers in Japan. Its easy to see why though with expertly rendered ogres to lay into with precision planned armouries all looking very easy on the eye. Oozes with the Capcom polish of a triple A release.
Super Famicom
Sports
Bit of dark mystery behind this digitised pinball game and as such the ball mechanics arent quite as smooth as a more cartoony interpretation of the table top title. But the tables are nicely done with plenty of atmosphere and this is a welcome addition of an undercooked genre on the SFC.
Super Famicom
Simulation
Keeps up the fine look of Disney tie in titles as Alice wanders along through a side scrolling adventure as players manipulate the on screen hand in order to aid her progress through the weird and wonderful world.
NEO GEO CD
One on One Beat Em Up
The Jet of the title refers to the extra speed in movement added to the mix to make a very tasty fight fest with a few extra specials thrown in for each character just to keep you on your toes and fleet footed. The graphics are the pinnacle of the series on the AES and the results are up there with the finer fight titles on the system – no mean feat amongst such refined company.
Nintendo Hardware
Multitap
The Twin Tap cant be used on its own, and must be used with the Multi Adaptor Auto. It doubles the capacity of each joypad port on a Multitap Auto when used in conjunction with it.
GameBoy Advance
Shoot Em Up
Vertically scrolling shooter but requires you to keep an eye on the ground with a bomb option too. Classic Famicom shooting action.
Sega Saturn
RPG
Quite experimental work coming from Sega, but we can’t expect perfection everytime. Certainly has it’s moments to recommend it to RPG fans. The appearance of Crow man ‘Kuroyasha’ being one of Genki’s favourite.
Super Famicom
RPG
A game comparable to a Hiroshige picture and not just in the way the characters are written on scrolls. Some of the finest game music which hasn’t aged in the way true classic shouldn’t. Text fills in the story with this being from the era of the Famicom Disk System but the graphical representation is still stylish and on a par with the fine tunes. Draws on Japanese mythology to create a game worthy of being one of the classics.
Sega Saturn
A Bit Special
A collectors item for fans of VF: watch Jeff in different situations – including diving and whaling! Owners of five or more of the series were rewarded with a special Dual disk.
Game Gear
Sports
It would appear the Japanese seem to love their thoroughbreds almost as much as the Irish. Ample evidence here as players are charged with raising a young foal and all that goes with it to build up for that slap-your-derriere final furlong of the seasons climax. Help your horse progress in this thoroughbred racer from the CRI stable.
Super Famicom
Sports
Popular baseball series which evolved with every update making it familiar and yet progressive to fans of Famistar. Manages to recreate the good feel of the crack when batters whack that home run onto some poor chap enjoying his hot dog in the crowd.
Super Famicom
Sports
Known as Super Batter Up in the West, but in Genkis humble opinion looks far better with the Homepride Flour, Fred style Japanese graphics. Bases loaded and this representation of the sport covers all bases.

Mega Drive
Sports
A very ambitious project with the original being entirely polygon based on a platform requiring programmer imagination to squeeze good 3D out of the hardware. Plenty of nostalgia for fans of the series and Atari with rogue developer Tengen on programming duties.
Mega Drive
Sports
Classic Video System title from back in 1989 which stirs memories of Olympics past as players try to get their team, perhaps tactically wearing shorts a little too tight, to become the best in the world.
Mega Drive
RPG
An RPG of fine fettle which takes a realistic approach in that the hero must get sufficient food and rest to stay alive. Items add to the weight lugged around and slow the progress down. And any overnight sortie out of the relative safety of the town requires sufficient planning to survive. The visuals are small so its possible to see a wide area of the gaming world at once. The soundtrack is sublime too to make up for any disappointment with the small-scale sprites. Plenty of heart in this one.
Mega Drive
Sports
Joe Montana was quite a player and few will have missed his charming Mega Drive title which was as popular as Genesis back in the 90s. Simple interface and good action with fun two player bouts make this the football game to recommend to fans of any shape of ball.
Super Famicom
Action
A platform setting for a fight based title in the action sense as players whop each other round the screen. Made special by a few familiar looking mechs appearing along side a shrunk down Devilman. Fun, action based title well worth a look.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
An anime adventure with similarities to Ranma 1/2 in which the jewels scattered over earth have to be rounded up – a bit like Dragon Ball Z. Anime otakus will enjoy the lavishly illustrated graphics that play as the anime series with a choice of options during the stills.
Soundtracks
Soundtrack
Over an hour of choice choons to celebrate a cracking fight fest with a great sense of humour. Hopefully old lady Otane’s denture snapping attack or knicker elastic twanging celebration isn’t amongst those effects. Based on the arcade version known as Goketsuji Ichizoku Saikyo Densetsu.
