Famicom Cart
Puzzle
Used with the Datach system, this is a mini cart collectable that uses the chips of the Datach to shrink cart size down. Puzzle fun based on the wildly drawn Crayon Shinchan world.
Sega Saturn
A Bit Special
Tanto R is a popular Sega developed party game title that was followed up by Ichitanto R and re-released on the PS2 under the Sega Ages banner. Here we have the third release in the series. Light hearted action and puzzle mini games make up the action which is fast and frantic but most importantly plenty of fun. For example, a towel must be rubbed along the kung fu mans back to keep away colds. Or passengers must be pushed onto the overcrowded trains.
Dreamcast
RPG
The original D represented a key period in gaming history before the 3DO went critical, without which would we have had Silent Hill or Biohazard? Kenji Eno san delves into the dreaded “Interactive Movie” genre but the results are no early CD rom dirge. Disturbed and depraved survival horror from the Canadian outlands.
Sega Saturn
RPG
Truly wonderful Japanese RPG following the Lunar series with lush anime interludes and great sprite based graphics. Reminiscent of Miyazaki’s fine work.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Simpler control system than the Gun Griffon series making this more accessible to fans of the anime series and giant mega mecha alike.
Playstation
Simulation
Live the childhood dream and put on your white drivers gloves and kick back in your drivers cabin as you ferry the good citizens of Tokyo around the Yamanote Line amongst others: the busiest and most famous train line in Japan with 30 stations. Keep to the timetable with varying light and weather conditions including some torrential downpours. Brings a new dimension to on the rails gameplay and adds a new aspect to the series with full motion captured graphics.
Playstation
A Bit Special
Very well rounded compilation from the original masters of back catalogue categorising containing Cutie Q, Gaplus, Xevious, Grobda, Mappy and Dragon Buster. Bomb Bee is hidden in there somewhere too. The titles are all a very pleasant swim in the retro paddling pool with presentation that is proof of the time and effort put into this series.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
The arrival of Tekken brought home the power of the new 32Bit generation and pushed the Playstations prowess to the forefront of the gaming public’s conscious. Feel every blow reign down from it’s iron fist. With Tekken and ‘Ridge Racer’ Sony owed Namcot a big slap on the back.
Famicom Cart
Platform
The cuddly characters hide some devious level design from as fine a stable as Konami. Chomping carrots and spooky levels with big boss rushes to savour.
Nintendo 64
A Bit Special
Amazingly recreates the feel of flying through the sky be it on the rocket belt or gyrocopter flying through hoops or chasing the thermals to stay up in the hangglider to get a better photo of a whale. Packed full of ideas – a breath of fresh air to the games industry.
Nintendo 64
Platform
Beautiful 3D platform game with Kirby coming into his own and very much the star of the show wielding flaming swords, tossing bombs into enemy territory and even turning into a rather mean looking rock clad Kirby. A classic series given a fitting tribute on the 64 with some stunning touches such as the flame effects and gorgeous backgrounds.
Nintendo 64
Action
Bomberman freed from his maze confines and tossing bombs around like confetti to reveal hidden items or take down opponents. Players must negotiate the 3D courses utilising switches and other secrets to progress. Ambitious change in direction from Hudson and with a fine graphical look reminiscent of Mario 64 in parts.
Nintendo 64
Platform
Rare’s values shine through as virtuously as Nintendo’s in its quest to distil pure, gaming fun. And the partnership between the two was never as bosom buddy as it was on the Nintendo 64. Few can match Nintendo’s eye for detail, but Rare have savoured the gaming moment with this fine action title.
Nintendo 64
RPG
Chasing after chickens, playing musical instruments, leaping across chasms, horse riding, target shooting… Such an eagerly awaited link in the chain and amazingly able to live up to expectations and even exceed them. A lesson in game design from start to finish. Cinematic in its execution, always emotive.
Famicom Cart
Action
The ghost AI remains as fierce some as ever. One to show your grandchildren as to why your reflexes have been shot through.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
One on One Beat Em Up
Sci fi mecha based fighting game with solid visuals and cut scenes with English dialogue. Takes a high degree of joypad dexterity to master the special moves.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Simulation
Space based strategic battle simulator with tidy lift music whilst setting up troops and weapons, but more dramatic rock to crank up the tension once the battle commences, with dramatic avatars to back it up.
PC Engine HU Card
Sports
Third and final installment allows four player match ups and fighting both in and out of the ring. Watch out for Tommy Bomber’s Back Drop and Englishman Dynamic Billy’s Diving Head Butt!
PC Engine Arcade CD
One on One Beat Em Up
Conversion of the massive Neo Geo title from the 2D fighting grandmaster SNK. Some wonderful playable characters to choose from including the superbly named Korean Taekwondo expert KimKap Hwan and wide girthed Chinese gent Cheng Sinzan.
PC Engine CD ROM
RPG
A step back to feudal times and a golden gaming era when RPGs were a soothing combination of exploring the village to simple chip tunes before more sinister encounters with combat requiring experience points.
PC Engine HU Card
Platform
PC Kid is to the Engine what Sonic and Mario are to Sega and Nintendo. But Genki reckons he could have them both in a fight using his forehead to attack enemies as he does. Fun filled platform romp with original twists in an often cliched genre. Also known as ‘Genjin’ and ‘Bonk’.
