Soundtracks
Soundtrack
Uber chic packaging in the form of the Famicom release front cover and including various ditties from the timeless run and gun classic.
PS3
Action
Tattooed veterans of the series will know what to expect from this instalment: explosions, briefcases of Yen, scarred faces and tattooed torsos and plenty of fisticuffs. Add into the mull a beautiful J Pop star, ramen shops and baseball and I think its fair to say it covers all bases and in fine fettle.
Merchandise
Guide Book
Going by the title of ‘Sugoku Sugoi’, (or ‘Superbly Super’), this guide book covers both the PS2 and Dreamcast versions of the game. Full colour bringing the vibrancy of the game alive.
Playstation
Simulation
The key to a balanced development is good rail links allowing budding planners to be able to import in the materials needed to build a brimming metropolis and plenty of leisure facilities for the dwellers to unwind in. This Global version sees players take their railroad to the whole wide world.
Playstation
Sports
Horse racing and breeding for the Playstation with very nice graphics. Its very compelling to bring up a young foal to eventually win the cup, before being put out to pasture.
Dreamcast
A Bit Special
A tidy demo disk and collectable that came with the ‘Dori Maga’ or Dreamcast Magazine and includes demos of Mr. Driller, Zusar Vasar, Derby Tsuku and a movie of Jet Set Radio plus original Sega Game anime.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
3D incarnation of the much loved SNK treasure with evasive moves, ‘kick me when I’m down’ brutality and fast footed gameplay firmly on the offensive. Includes a mission mode for collecting various outfits and other unlockables. The church stage with stained glass windows looks stunning; indeed lighting on the whole has been cunningly employed. Also known as King of Fighters Maximum Impact.
PS2
Sports
Great use of motion capture and fine attention to detail and the uniforms of Japans premium baseball teams. Hanshin Tigers, Hiroshima Carp, Fukuoka Hawks and the appropriately named Yakult Swallows all vry for attention amongst the twelve teams. Konamis talent for sports titles is in fine fettle.
Nintendo DS
RPG
Link dons on his drivers gloves and takes control of a steam train to travel through the exquisite lands full of colour and the Eastern European graphics that work so well on the format. Plenty of battles await, as do Densha De Go style passenger drops where the track signals must be rigorously observed. A few monsters still lurk in dank dungeons and conquering them adds new abilities to Links growing repertoire. Known as Spirit Tracks in the West.
Nintendo Hardware
Controller
Lavishly retro with Hori’s high production values, this fine controller lists the following games on the Famicom it was compatible with at the time of production: After Burner, Knight Rider, Space Harrier, Pole to Finish, Sky Destroyer, Highway Star, but others will also work. On the Mega Drive its known list is: Super ThunderBlade, Space Harrier II and Super Hang-On. Boasts an autofire feature.
Famicom Cart
Action
Draws on ancient history as players do battle with oni style adversaries. Think of the Monkey series and those trying to lead them astray on their quest. The combat works well and its clear to see why it is a cherished with the rose-tinted retro glasses on.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Polygon based tennis title with some detailed textures and nice touches such as the players walking on and off for their drink of orange squash during the break. Not quite Virtua Tennis on the Saturn, but an impressive interpretation non the less.
Sega Saturn
RPG
The final installment on the Saturn and its a shame such slick design was restricted to a Japanese-only release with the entire engine having been delicately tweaked into this masterpiece by Sega’s finest craftsmen.
Super Famicom
Platform
Rockman has always faced improbable platform situations with little fear and players will need to squeeze every iota out of his dash charge and Bionic Commando style grabber arm to reach the boss section. Even the platforms themselves can fall away giving the impression all is against our Capcom Hero. But with such colourful graphics and always fair gameplay, the fault only lies with a lack of practise.
Sega Hardware
Cable
Tasty, tried and tested, custom built RGB scart cable for the Sega Saturn to enjoy a fine picture on an NTSC capable television. Put together with some serious competence and a steady, steady hand.
Sega Hardware
Controller
The best way to get the party started with these official maracas for use with the Samba De Amigo series. Its no slur on Sega though to say sometimes its more fun to watch the participant rather than the on screen action. Quite hard to track down these days.
Super Famicom
Simulation
A romantic dating game based on the popular manga and anime with venues including a concert and even where you work doing your part time job. Choosing the right words to say are the key to winning hearts, but the course of true love never runs smoothly.
Famicom Cart
RPG
Everyone’s favourite robotic cat from the future explores the gaming world in a style reminiscent of Mother as the gang travel the lands and houses. His ‘Anywhere Portal’ certain could be of use as could the ‘Bamboo Helicopter’. Just beware of those ear nibbling mice when resting.
Nintendo Hardware
Accessory
A very snazzy Pokemon stylus pen designed exclusively for the DSi featuring Hinoarashi or Cyndaquil in the West and also Houou (or Ho-Oh in the West.)
Playstation
A Bit Special
Nice Playstation curio coming with disk and cable that allows it to be linked to a Japanese mobile phone. Once hooked up, users can save their data from their phone or play around with a few new melodies on the console.
Super Famicom
A Bit Special
Known as Super Ninja Boy in the West, this version has more going for it that didn’t make the cut for the English language release. Jammed full of Chinese cultural references, or at least Chinese culture from a Japanese perspective, it can be pretty zany at times.
