Gets right under your skin from the off as the sense of foreboding grows with each new assailant from the legions of the undead. The detail is a little too much at times.

Makes big improvements over the already accomplished prequel bolstering the size and randomness of the quest as it follows a twisting path. Visually engrossing with excellent battles requiring every member of the team to be working together to fully utilise their spells or weapons. And there are a potential of eight distinct characters available to join your merry men. All with the epoch defining level of RPG presentation and establishing team play as the future of RPG’s.

King of the ring slug fest from the dark destroyer Cream, with the bonus of a side scrolling beat ’em up thrown in there for good measure like Legend of Success Joe on the Neo Geo in which you hunt down your father’s killers. Some cool and mean pugalists and trainers to choose from including Cutie Ann and the Yakuza look a like Mr. Ran. Training is also possible in the gym with medicine balls tossed at you to test your reflexes along with bag work.

Until released it never was truly believed that such an otaku’s dream of Ryu vs Terry Bogart battles would actually become a reality. Two of the giants of the 2D one on one combat world locking horns has never been such fun.

Shooters are where the Saturn far excelled itself and Darius is thankfully no exception. A very unique feel. The robotic cat fish is a Genki favourite.

Capcom injects new life into its DMC series with stunning cityscapes to test out your combo skills and a quite staggering attention to graphical detail promoting this to the high art genre. The waves of assaults can be relentless, yet the control remains intuitive giving great satisfaction when a perfect slice and dice combination rolls off the pad. Top hats off to Capcom for maintaining its triple-A status despite the shift in format to the PS3.

Classic and little known action title in the mould of PacMan, but a bit more cerebral as players are required to collect various power ups and holy books in order to seal the tomb and complete the stage. The forced scrolling tends to change direction and force well made plans into reverse, but its all part of the hard to put down fun. Pure Nintendo magic.

Builds the tension up slowly like the original Jurassic Park film and then cranks up the sweaty palm factor just when your least expecting it. Some great cinematic quality moments Spielberg would be proud of.

Any game featuring colourful fruit power ups can’t be bad in Genki’s eyes and Donkey Kong Junior is in fine fettle as the wee monkey leaps from vine to vine in a more aerial assault on his papa gone crackers. Vintage gaming from an exciting era of home consoles.

Vertically scrolling shooter set in a land before time. Some very smart power ups available to turn your dragon from a look a like of Puff the Magic Dragon into a three headed fire breathing beast!

The 3D modelling give the series the feel of collectable DragonBall figures battling each other on the different planes the series is renowned for. But they also add a degree of the kawaii which is more appropriate for the shrunk down characters rather than the likes of big, bad Piccolo. The modelling does give more a feel of impact than the standard 2D look would, adding to the satisfaction of landing those special moves from another dimension.

‘Feel the sports emotion’ as Square tackle real world physics of racing with a plethora of Japanese sports cars. Includes the Suzuka and lesser known Tsukuba circuits.

Conversion of the coin op is garishly illustrated in primary colours. Traverse levels in a wee opa opa pod trying to restore peace to the Fantasy Zone. Unusually the levels don’t scroll but are wrapped around and the boss can only be reached through destroying the ten bases first. Thankfully supplies can be procured from passing hot air balloons bringing welcome relief.

Improved visuals (including a stunning sea shrine update), conversation speed, combat system and new cut scenes along with an uplifting, orchestral music score. Huge bosses that seem to want to crawl out the screen. Playable as fighter, thief, ninja or three mages. So much loving from Square.

The first title to make it to the West and with the original being so full of Eastern promise plenty survived the cut. But here in its unadulterated Japanese form the true genius behind the Goemon series shines brightly drawing in many a gamer moth into its fun filled villages to gamble, eat, rest even have a blast on Gradius. Its enough just to try and take it all in – festival masks, ninja cats, the village drunk, the fisherman rushing through town with his catch, not forgetting Ohana chan in her kimono. Also known as the Legend of the Mystical Ninja.

Play as pilot of the Hunting Dog assisted by power ups from the Wild Cat in the shape of pods to help protect your ship. Heavy metal soundtrack, but no time for head banging apart from against the monitor as relentless waves swarm in to attack. Similar to the MD’s Thunderforce and prequel to Winds of Thunder. Some very tidy rotation and parallax effects as Hudson demonstrates its perfect grasp of the Engine architecture with backgrounds that close in on you inducing claustrophobia.

Cracking retro blast as players bound around on screen with a bold palette, funky tunes and full on action gameplay. Bombs are dropped to reveal items to help progress whilst avoiding the mice and the hot pursuit of the gun wielding authorities. A superb license that shouldn’t be missed.

A charge through the 3D levels to grab the flags utilising spare blocks to get across the solid platforms. Plenty of power ups to spice up the action and a fine level of 3D for a console that is meant to struggle with it.

One of both Treasure’s and the Saturn’s jewels in the crown with the Saturn effortlessly throwing giant sprites around like Big Daddy and Treasure’s programming entering an even higher echelon. A true delight to behold.

Light gun game full of fun and a real pleasure to play as a result. The conversion doesn’t betray its arcade roots and the levels are zippy with players being thrown into the fray to stop a car heading straight for them, keep a can up in the air in a shooting version of keepy upy or shooting the fleeces off poor sheep that scamper by. Known in the West as Point Blank 2.

Booming Bond song in a karaoke style announces the arrival of the big budget Gundam juggernaut with slick intro with high production values evident in the nostalgic anime intro. The action is perfectly accessible as hulking mechs smash chunks out of each other following some suitably heated avatar exchange.

Very tasty one on one fighter based in ancient Japan on a manga that looks like a Samurai version of Fist of the North Star. Keiji is well portrayed as the confident warrior from the manga series with a roster of well-designed characters such as the loyal samurai and the attractive, devote female Christian missionary. The backgrounds look straight off the set of Shogun.
