This version has more going for it that didn’t make the cut for the English language release. Jammed full of Chinese cultural references, or at least Chinese culture from a Japanese perspective, it can be pretty zany at times.

A game a few decades ahead of its time as the hero charges head on into the 3D scrolling screen giving adversaries a wide berth and making long jumps that would put Chris Tomlinson to shame. The end of level boss requires a bit of the old school shooting skills to be tested as Square defines another genre early in its development. Known in the West as 3D WorldRunner.

Simulation
Live the dream: drive your bus around the big T not forgetting to announce the stops and shut the door before departure. Oh and buses run on time in Japan. White drivers gloves not supplied. Conversion of the much loved Dreamcast classic.

Classic title from a golden era of gaming where players take on the role of knight tasked with clearing mazes. Set apart by Namcots flair for appealing sprite graphics and some fine gameplay blending quick thinking and fast pacing to create a title as loved today in updates such as this and on virtual consoles.

One on One Beat Em Up
Well worth the wait as Sega polishes its massive series to create a visual punch capable of knocking players out cold for the count. Pugilists flow like water with seamless animation making it at times difficult to concentrate on countering the attacks, such is the graphical splendour. And its not only the players full of fluidity Ethe waterfall level will take a few attempts to get used to before players can focus fully on the battle in-hand. Seventeen playable fighters with some vicious special moves to master to become king of the arcades as players tour round the game centres fighting new challengers. Master is the operative word with ranking determined by performance against tougher opponents with the ultimate aim being to reach tenth dan. So the dojo is a sound place to start for some solid training in the foundations. Tournament mode allows competitors to pick up money or a new outfit to radically alter the player’s on-screen persona’s appearance.
Virtual Boy

Accomplished take on the sport with players choosing their peg before casting off. A nice feeling of satisfaction at bagging a beauty and true fishermen and ladies will relish the challenge of the fight. Well presented and nicely animated. Whilst not up there with Virtual Bowling and Gundam, its slowly becoming a bit of a dark horse in VB collecting.

Minna no Golf style graphics with fine attention to detail such as the rainbow after the shower and weather sound effects adding to the uber kawaii look and feel good factor, yet its the unique control system untilising the analogue stick to make shots that makes Wai Wai head the leaderboard. Proper course design with realistic 3D so you can visually judge the run of the greens. And the cussing and yelping of the players helps endear you to the game further. Four player mode with just a single controller too.

With interesting side quests such as finding all the mushrooms, players get to gallop through the wide, expansive game area on steeds in a great feel of freedom like a nomad through Outer Mongolia with the wind effect adding to the feel. Strewn throughout the world are what looks like Roman ruins. Pierced with strong shards of like amongst the atmospheric shadows, players negotiate tight crevices, Yet few will forget their first encounter with the Colossus. Up there with Ico on the system and one of the finest on any system. Beautiful, emotive, immense, Colossus. Known as the Shadow of Colossus in the West.

Tests the drivers concentration as the break neck speed employed by the programmers ensures its essential to keep a beady eye on the hints as to which corner comes next. Very nice celebratory scene in reaching the podium, for those who appreciate their sprites.
NEO GEO CD
One on One Beat Em Up
The Jet of the title refers to the extra speed in movement added to the mix to make a very tasty fight fest with a few extra specials thrown in for each character just to keep you on your toes and fleet footed. The graphics are the pinnacle of the series on the AES and the results are up there with the finer fight titles on the system – no mean feat amongst such refined company.

Club Nintendo exclusive but the ghost memberships were well worth the effort when playing this wee belter. Strangely expansive for a give away title (well for those with the required points) with atmospheric rain lashing down on the Goemon style towns through which our samurai be suited players stroll. Plenty of opportunities to test martial arts ability soon prevail with the mic being used to issue commands to your player such as kick or punch. Players can also transform into a lycra suited sentai with the feel of plenty of cheese and ham as in Ouendan as the over the top transformations take place. Multiplayer only for two or three players and players must work in true Wa harmony to beat the bad boss.
GameBoy Advance

Platform romp with distinct Japanese humour and cultural references aplenty, including a cheeky boss run in reminiscent of Ghouls and Ghosts. If the cliché can be forgiven, a hidden gem, or possibly more a hidden whoopee cushion.
