Famicom Cart

Here we have all the games in the Famicom Cart Section.

Pac Man is the height of retro chic. Plenty of ghosts to avoid and water pumps to jump on in this brightly coloured classic. (What is it with platform games and water pumps?!) The name Pac comes from the Japanese onomatopoeia from the sound of munching away, as our little friend tends to do.

Action
The ghost AI remains as fierce some as ever. One to show your grandchildren as to why your reflexes have been shot through.
Famicom Cart
Action
Battle against various other animals such as rats, bats and cows to knock each other out by rolling balls along the tabletop. Each character has their own unique characteristics making them difficult to beat.
Famicom Cart
Platform
Another fine discovery from Columbus with fast paced platform shooting action presented to Capcom’s lofty standards. The gameplay seems to have taken on board recent mobile gaming releases with sometimes unforgiving pixel perfect play required. But the boss rushes are like a shoulder massage to gamers of a certain vintage.
Famicom Cart
Simulation
Early Famicom release with bold primary colours and cutesy penguins to ornate the table. The bonus section is a homage to Mario as he runs from side to side bouncing the ball back up to try and break down the princess platform and free her.

Very tidy ball mechanics and nice power ups in the shop make for a fine pinball game. The RPG fantasy theme throws bosses into the mix besides the power ups and the levels are themed with gargoyles and skeletons in keeping with the theme. Super table top flipper fun.

Platform
A time travelling money should come as no surprise as plenty of moneys have been dispatched into space ships over the years. This one is handy with a boomerang to clock a few choice dinosaurs or sharks. Its possible to transform into a mech style monkey (being a Bandai title) and also to traverse levels in a shoot em up style in the ship that delivers the player to the different time zones.

Action
The Konami cracker gets a Famicom work out as Hudson bring home the bacon big time. Players take on the role of a pig on a winch lift and move up and down to fire arrows at the wolves descending on balloons. Popping their balloons makes them fall to the ground, but if they float down they start to gather near the poor piggies lift. A simple premise, badly explained and playing extremely well.
Famicom Cart
RPG
Rescue the Tomato Princess and receive the praise of the Broccoli King to become a fine, upstanding cucumber. Possibly the strangest way to encourage salad consumption, but a wonderfully crafted adventure and in friendly Hiragana for those budding students of Japanese: be in language or culture. Known in Japan as Salad no Kuni no Tomato Hime.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Known as RBI Baseball across the pond, this sports slugger certainly covers all bases with some nice touches such as the homerun fireworks. But the secret of Moneyball is not the big slugs, but the percentages.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Known as RBI Baseball 3 in the US of A. And you can almost smell the corn dogs and popcorn. Just ensure any catches are left to the players and not the crowd reaching over the barriers as happened in one crucial match we would hate to remind the culprit of…
Famicom Cart
Platform
A varied platform action title in the style of the colourful Toei animation with the feline hero taking to air balloons, sailing ships and submarines to tackle the platform shooting levels, besides using those famous boots to scale the heights of some levels.
Famicom Cart
Platform
Puzzle of Atlantis is a definite Super Mario tribute complete with warps and all, but the developers have also taken note of the talent behind the level design in Mario and playtested the levels to hone the playing field to a well balanced challenge.
Famicom Cart
Puzzle
Clear the blocks from the screen by shooting them to extend their length and turn them into big squares. They then disappear in time for another wave descending down the screen.
Famicom Cart
Action
Quick thinking is a requisite as the floor shifts into different tiles meaning new, jelly baby like enemies warping in or players sliding helplessly across the level. Thankfully sonic booms style attacks can ward of the interest of the on screen adversaries, at least for a temporary respite, in the quest to clear the screen. Known as Mendel Palace in the West.

Simulation
Tamiya seem to have got some early product placement in on this remote control car racing sim. Players tweak their vehicles to ensure a souped up vehicle capable of beating the other racers and sit back to savour the product of your work zip around the track.
Famicom Cart
Action
John Rambo gets to take his shirt off making him easy to distinguish from the uniformed officers and grunts in hot pursuit. The familiar sound of shopper blades is all it takes to make John go off the edge in this platform adventure with strong military overtones.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Zippy race game from Konami’s arcade roster with very impressive speeds. Sharp reflexes are required to avoid traffic, oil clicks, bikes that seem to target your car, whilst still trying to collect bonuses. Delays will prevent the players car getting to the check point in time.
Famicom Cart
Platform
The gritty Eighties law enforcement film gets a Famicom outing with the cyborg punching lads that look like they should be delivering in Paperboy (and avoiding the Alsatian dogs that also come in for a fist of titanium justice.) A fine film tie in.

Destroying Nuke and arresting perps is all in a days work for Robocop. This leaves the urban decay of the prequel and uses a few more gaming tricks of lifts and conveyor belts in the giant factories. Some ominous robot adversaries lie in wait for our slickly animated law enforcer.

The game has nice, solid sprites and slick anime cut scenes to reward the gamer for the tricky platform sections.

Fine Famicom version which is very playable title in it’s own right. Detachable arm power ups rock!

HAL never did anything by half and this pinball game is as slick as they come. The ball is small giving plenty of room to the US themed table with nice touches that can be triggered by expertly hitting the switch, usually by waiting for the ball to be on the tip of the flipper. Tunes that are totally chipper make for a delightful dose of Famicom nostalgia.
Famicom Cart
Action
Players race round the maze courses to grab the power ups or chequered flag before opponent cars whilst avoiding prangs and keeping an eye on the fuel gauge.
Famicom Cart
Simulation
With a name like Dragon King War, you may well expect an action title of sorts. Well the action is all confined to the board here in this take on the shogi game, a sort of Japanese mahjong or perhaps type of chess. The presentation is fine though with caster announcer declaring progress and its possible to take on mythical figures from Japan’s past. No doubt with a civilised cup of green tea.
Famicom Cart
RPG
Based on the anime series with loose connections to Greek mythology, this plays a very solid battles in turn based combat with some sparkling visual effects worthy of the over the top specials. Between bouts players explore the platform sections that make up the dual format to the action.
Famicom Cart
Puzzle
Line up the colourful characters from the famed Sanrio series, with none more infamous than Hello Kitty herself, in this fine and dandy Puyo Puyo tribute.
Famicom Cart
Action
Players ride on bikes like the speeders from Return of the Jedi and try to knock opponents into the on screen traps, such as laser beams. The speeder also has a gun to shoot itself as the screen forces the battle onwards.
