Sega Saturn
Rhythm
A fun music synthesiser to play around with tracks and allow the TV Band to play it with some nice animation sequences. Easy to follow menu and some fine effects.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Very pleasant platform romp reminiscent of the Super Famicom in its pomp, apart from the look is souped up to suit the Saturn format and the bosses are cut loose from the second dimension!
Playstation
A Bit Special
Three games in one, very collectable compilation to celebrate Chocobo’s tenth anniversary: Chocobo Stallion, Chocobo Racing and Dice de Chocobo. Genki can’t resist the charms of Chocobo Racing: even our stony features raise a smile when seeing the legs of the bird like creature whizzing along in this Mario Kart style racer. Shortcuts are great, when remembered that is. Well thought out and varied courses and some superb power ups. Whilst it may lack marks for originality, when the source material is so fine, who is complaining? Chocobo Stallion allows you to train up your chosen Chocobo from cute little fledgling to champion race stallion in this twist on the horse racing game.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
A wealth of avatars and animation from the epic anime opus to bring this series to life on the Sega Saturn and run rings around the opposition.
Sega Saturn
A Bit Special
Gives you the role of producer of a music video for the rock band X Japan: certainly big in japan as the wealth of footage of their Tokyo Dome concert attests. Involves wandering around backstage and then choosing which camera angles to go with, along with plenty of video and audio material.
Mega CD
RPG
Produced by the legendary Wolfteam comes a classic fantasy RPG making fine use of the CD quality music and intros. All very well drawn and with a lush, retro feel of the Mega CD format.
Mega Drive
Puzzle
Simple tile shuffling to clear the screen as the stack increases slowly to test your thinking and play screen. Each line cleared drops a bomb that clears tiles on the other side of the screen to reveal pixelated lady friends.
Mega Drive
Shooter
Forced scrolling shooter of legendary fame on the Mega Drive with slick, sharp reflexes a requisite to see more of the parallax scrolling and attention to detail, like the flickering flame lamps, not that you get much time to savour it. Imaginative levels and bosses plus smooth animation with fine scaling make this an all time entry into the vintage Mega Drive vault.
Playstation
RPG
Action RPG full of kawaii and reminiscent of Kid Dracula on the Super Famicom. Very much dances to its own tune with some off-kilter adversaries including madcap bosses, but never takes itself too seriously and is a breath of fresh air in comparison to the big budget modern day release.
Super Famicom
Platform
Colourful, comic capers as Kid Clown avoids the hazards of his chosen occupation with exploding bombs, rolling logs and hurricane winds all sent to blow him off his isometric level course.
Super Famicom
RPG
Aurally this must be one of the most pleasing games on the system with some delightful cheery sunny day music, via the regal pomp of the palace to the stirring sequences that visually impress too in Mode 7. The story draws players in and this has aged like a fine claret to be one of the more desirable RPGs on a system renowned for some of the finest.
Mega CD
Simulation
Exploring the revolutionary Full Motion Video world with realistic graphics and CD quality sound and voice overs. Involves finding keys and searching around carefully (and a whole lot of butterflies.) Known as Yumemiyakata no Monogatari in Japan.
Famicom Cart
Platform
Brash colour scheme with chirpy gameplay to match the chipper colours. Perfectly suited to the hardware and Namcot really squeeze plenty out of the architecture both aurally and visually.
Famicom Cart
Board Game
A fine collectable and curio for the Famicom combining board game and video game in one very fine package. The attention to detail in the production is staggering as up to four players traverse the game world and board map simultaneously.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Spine tingling atmospherics set by the excellent oriental orchestral score with tumbling leaves or snow falling. There are some pretty gruesome moves to add a bit of colour to the snow, including self inflicted seppuku. Big, bold sprites make this an SNK winner. Subtitled Amakusa’s Revenge Special, the series is also known as Samurai Shodown.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Zoom gives its robot scrapper a sheen and polish as it gets to grips well with the PSX’s architecture to produce solid 3D results. Subtitled The Final Conflict.
Playstation
Action
Madcap melee of a foot race game in which players charged round the devious courses avoiding the attacks of fellow competitors and trying to use fulcrum grabbing techniques to swing round tight corners to avoid loosing momentum. Full title: Gekisou Tomarunner.
Nintendo 64
RPG
Follows up the spankingly good Paper Mario combining it skilfully with RPG elements to delve deeper into the colourful Mario world. The balance is just right for those who like their RPG action to be kept fairly simple without too many treks to remote caves to light a lantern all beautifully coated in Nintendo’s saccharine sweetness.

Help bring up your own little princess in this rather under subscribed genre! Originally a success on the PC Engine.
