The sequel has increased the size of game and reached a pinnacle of graphical excellence with more planes to savour. Import only, but the menu allows you to change the language to English. On par with the finest PC flight sims.

Cruise the highways on a CHIPS style police bike protecting VIP’s in their cars from terrorists. The players guns are auto fire and its possible to take a hail of bullets on behalf of the presidents as its only their health that depletes. More fun than a can of spray cheese.

Conversion of the massive Neo Geo title from the 2D fighting grandmaster SNK. Some wonderful playable characters to choose from including the superbly named Korean Taekwondo expert KimKap Hwan and generous girth of Chinese gent Cheng Sinzan.

A nice twist on the squishy Puyo Puyo empire that sees players having to tackle predetermined screens of the jelly like beans. But there are RPG elements first before the player gets to the puzzles as our heroine, Rulue, takes centre stage. Full title: Super Nazo Puyo 2 Ruru no Tetsuwan Hanjyouki.

Action
The Ryu ga Gotoku team are in fine fettle as the player takes the role of a private eye investigating Yakuza murders. The combat system will be familiar to those who have cracked their knuckles in the Yakuza series. And the neon of Japanese cityscapes never looked so stunning. This version of the game became particularly collectable when Sega pulled it from sale due to the real life misdemeanours of one of the actors involved in the game.

Action
The essence of pure four player competitive action taking full advantage of the 64’s generous ports. Match up balloons of the same colour to clear your screen. So simple, yet so fiendishly compulsive. Essential after hours entertainment.
Super Famicom
A Bit Special
A fine compilation of retro goodness from Retro Bit That includes the sublime Joe & Mac 3, the action puzzler Magical Drop 2 and the pool game Side Pocket. A good balance to the roster of titles, all well-presented in Data Easts arcade style. But more should be playing Joe & Mac 3, even on the platform dominated Super Famicom.

Beautiful weather and water textures add to the natural healing that comes from cruising the lakes in the great outdoors, dropping a line every now and then. The boat can be manoeuvred to a favoured spot on the lake adding an extra dimension to gameplay, particularly with the boat being equipped with a depth monitoring device. Spiritual healing for the urban oppressed.

A Bit Special
Email sender looking very pretty in pink for fans of Sanrio’s Kitty chan. Unfortunately the Dreamcast servers have long since ground to a halt, but this remains a nice curio for the DC completist.

Puzzle
An enjoyable playing card based game in the Tetris/Puyo Puyo/Columns mould when instead of blocks or squishy balls, players must align the cards to make flushes of the same suit or, for example, Jack, Queen, King. Pleasant chip tunes and bunny girls to complete the Eighties Vega theme.

Subtitled ‘Takahashi Meijin’. Old school platforming in all its springs, strawberry and skateboarding cliched brilliance.

Simulation
Falcom produced strategy war game which is a continuation of the Dragon Slayer series. Set in a cutesy, medieval Europe allowing the developer plenty of license for the fantasy setting.

Action
Samurai themed action slicer set in feudal Japan from the crack Capcom break away unit Game Republic. Captures the essence of the period beautifully in the graphics, musical score and presentation and shows great promise from those old Onimusha hands.
Wii
Action
Classic gameplay rekindled on the Wii with its unique control method suited to the action as players must hot foot it up skyscrapers avoiding falling plant pots, helicopters, King Kong and even UFOs. A fall after so much hard work getting up fifty storeys is hard to bear making for some determined, precision gameplay. Split screen two player mode is real, frantic fun.

Overhead perspective attractive golf title with four player option. Maybe Genki should listen to the caddy’s advice more often..? Also known as Go For It Golf Boys.
XBOX 360
One on One Beat Em Up
Warming the cockles of side on scrapper starved gamers comes the sequel to the anime expose to satisfy the most demanding of fight fans. The all female cast is reminiscent of the seminal Asuka series, but unfortunately such high-res graphics were never a possibility on the humble PC Engine. Presentation is spot on with a wee nod to the doujin fan and a fine story mode with pre-bout banter between the cat like ladies. The title comes from the Arcana power which is chosen to help each character get through the bout. Great to see the ladies are still doing it in 2D. Keep them coming we requested and our pleas have been answered.

One on One Beat Em Up
The huge series has its roots here, but its hardly a humble first edition with delicious cel shaded sprites and plenty of visual pyrotechnics to truly cross the bridge between anime and gaming, even if it looks more like the bridge between the living and underworld at times. The PSP was designed for titles like this.

Simulation
An upbeat style to this dating sim featuring good old joystick waggling to power up the angry meter in chit-chat. Has its won humour too as players interact with the ladies across suburban Japan.
