Side Scrolling Beat Em Up
Drawing on retro super heroes clad in Lycra and the great tradition of transforming into the ultimate hero found in Japan come Viewtiful Joe. The cel shaded look suits the over the top retro ham perfectly, almost as good a fit as Joes costume. And the large play areas allow players space to play their game to try and take down their opponent with as much style as the game itself. Highly commended for being fresh and fun.

Subtitled ‘New Generation Vs Legends.’ Kinikuman is an alien prince whose escapades are detailed in the Shonen Jump manga. This is a whacked out wrestling game with both story and tournament modes that could teach the WWF games a half nelson or two.
Miscellaneous Hardware

Goodness gracious. A console that can play Famicom, Super Famicom, SNES (both PAL and NTSC), GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, Genesis, Mega Drive (Pal and NTSC, though Mark III would require a Mega Adaptor), PC Engine, Turbo Grafx and PC Engine Super Grafx games. That’s over nine thousand compatible games. The controller adapter allows keen gamers to use the original pads on the machine for that authentic feel. Games can be downloaded onto the machine with a Micro SD Card and then they can be taken around a friends house. Upscaling makes many never looking so fine. Also allows patches to be applied to games.

One on One Beat Em Up
Heavy doujin influence to this pretty fight fest with the Heroines looking good for the developers eye for talent. Anime cut scenes, J Pop soundtrack, seamless backgrounds, extravagant specials, not to mention the fine extras that all cry out: for the gamers. Enjoy the eye candy, but be wary of the deeper mechanics this fine flurry of fists has its roots in.

Simulation
Pinball game with good variation in the four tables including the Roman gladiator theme, feudal Japan theme and fantasy based themed tables keeping the accurate ball mechanics in a fresh environment. Very solid game of flipper. Just try not to nudge the TV too much in the heat of a game.
Mega Drive
Shoot Em Up
Not your standard shooter as Robo Kid uses a unique firing system and the levels vary from horizontally scrolling to maze type. Sound range of weaponry to rip into the bosses. Feels very fresh: a different kind of blaster with the shadowy jungle level particularly innovative.
PS2
Action
Traditional sword fighting in the ancient Japanese way with tactics required to live to tell the tale. Highly atmospheric with tatami mats and sweeping temple roofs.
PS4
Shooter
A fine deviant from the usual gal on gal fight fest with the pretty protagonists taking to having a water fight. Surprising depth to the gameplay with power jumps and slides a must to progress and avoid a soaking. Fine roster of water pistols too.

Twenty-one gaming based tracks on this fine single CD including toe tapping beauts from Persona, Sengoku Basara and Idol Master with more spine chilling numbers from Fate/Zero and Devil Survivor. All loving mixed by DJ Ponpon.

Action
The Beyblade phenomena swept Japan like an annual typhoon as players fire their customised spinning tops against an opponents with all manner of hurrahs from the avatars.
GameBoy Color

A real work out with press-ups, climbing poles, climbing walls, running with weights. Luckily its a lot more fun to play, especially with the over the top commentator to encourage you on to the goal. Known as Muscle Ranking 2.

Metal Slug X and Metal Slug 3 inspire this addition to the fab collection with Kiss in the Dark and Metamorphosis the stand out tracks.

Accomplished take on the sport with players choosing their peg before casting off. A nice feeling of satisfaction at bagging a beauty and true fishermen and ladies will relish the challenge of the fight. Well presented and nicely animated. Whilst not up there with Virtual Bowling and Gundam, its slowly becoming a bit of a dark horse in VB collecting.
Virtual Boy
Puzzle
Complete with the usual modes to adjust the speed and number of starting lines, but its the horizontally scrolling mode making full use of the VB’s 3D capabilities where this version really excels. Having to think about whats going on around the corner really adds a new element to the Tetris formula.

Shoot Em Up
Based on G Darius and Darius Burst, Taito takes its famed 2D shooter past the kicking and screaming fans and into the third dimension. The hardware is more than capable, but the mindset many need more manipulation. Yet this is no hardware demonstration gimmick: Taito knows how to make an STG and none of the recipe has been skimped on for the sake of a graphical show boat. The Darius fish never looked so fluid.

One on One Beat Em Up
Brings the ninja themed Naruto world to life with an explorable 3D world consisting of RPG elements. The gaming arena remains exactly the same areas as soon as a fight breaks out. And you are never far away from a battle. Also known as Naruto Uzumaki Chronicles (or Whirlpool Chronicles.)

Shoot Em Up
Competent conversion of the until now Dreamcast exclusive that keeps its arcade roots in the high adrenalin, verticle on screen action. Whilst still lacking the wow factor in terms of visual impact, gameplay has clearly been made the all important goal of the developers for which praise is deserved. Besides you’re not given much chance to admire the scenery as you need your eyes to work independently to avoid the on screen onslaught. Also includes five mini bonus games not found on the DC where you must shoot the right balloons for example with more precision shooting required as well as evasive skills. A sort of training for the main event with high scoring being the goal.
