Here we have all the games in the Playstation Section.

Very impressive results with many a rev head having cut their racing teeth on this and Ridge Racer. Captures all that’s good about race games with a high pitch engine, sweeping courses, tight tunnels and some racing glamour. Still not much need to jam on the anchors, but few who love the series would anyway.
Playstation
Shoot Em Up
Conversion of the much heralded Seibu Kaihatsu coin-op that never relied on cheap tricks or gimmicks, just simple play mechanics, hardcore level structures, a riffing soundtrack and good old fashioned high scores awarded for collecting medals. The weapons can be powered up but there are only two to select along with two supplementary bomb attacks. Pure arcade shooting action.
Playstation
Shoot Em Up
Military based verticle scroller with lavish attention to detail. A keen eye will be needed to avoid the barrage of enemy assaults.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
An excellent version – moving backgrounds such as the underground station (and outdoor scenarios with appropriate sunshine in the day and lights at night plus interactivity where you can send your opponent through the stage barrier to meet their maker), blood will please the SNK fans of uncensored Japan version gaming and intelligent AI that seems to not take too kindly to a pummelling. Add to this the tight control aspect and you have a winning formula.
Playstation
Sports
Utilising the guide of Pilotwings, pilots follow the trail of balls in this super fast plane racing game which would no doubt be sponsored by Red Bull if it was released now. The guide helps to avoid a wrong turn on the ravines and caves as shooter stable Xing dabbles in a bit of break neck speed.
Playstation
A Bit Special
Japan exclusive that was followed up on the PS2 with player friendly front end to ease you into controlling a friendly robot. It soon becomes second nature to control the robot and gameplay is full of the delight a mechanised friend would bring. Innovative and enjoyable, a refreshing title.

Playstation
Sports
Captures the baton from the original Ridge Racer and runs on fumes passing the race girl and plenty of other sleek cars even with time for a quick look in the rear view mirror (albeit probably just to check their hair.) Continues the excitement of a new generation of gaming felt at the time.
Playstation
Action
Megaman takes the leap into 3D platforming and Capcom have applied plenty of polish to avoid the lure of a third dimension lacking in gameplay. Plenty of sub quests and so polished it positively sparkles like an avatars smile.
Playstation
Action
Rockman revels in the 3D world with the action RPG elements working a treat alongside the fine combat that let our hero, also known as Megaman, seems to find a blast.
Playstation
Platform
Rockman gets suited and booted to look more like a star of Battle of the Planets. His extra abilities allow for some real speed clocking in at a few Machs as he zooms through the platforms and flies across the rest of the level. Emotive use of cut scenes help encourage players to endeavour. Top drawer platform action.

Genki may be going soft, but we miss the day when you could find a safe spot on the screen and simply blast away until the boss destructs. With a slight pang towards a greater challenge, these bad boys demand not only full attention to weak spots, but also to keeping an eye on the platforms to avoid tumbling to boss rush purgatory. Rats!

Playstation
RPG
The ultimate in luxury for the RPG lover: the ability to change the script at various points in the game. So a handy item can be cunningly added, a boss battle for those that like to grind their EP or perhaps even getting whisked away to a different locale?
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Very solid 3D fight characters with ginormous weapons and seamless cuts to the anime it is based upon. With a full complement of the voice actors, the setting of the game is done perfectly. Gamreplay is like a more forgiving Bushido Blade with shadowy, candle lit levels.
Playstation
RPG
Imaginative quest with seven different players selectable, each with their own story intertwined with the others in the cast making for an excellent replay value. Combat is particularly strong with development of a player’s skills possible through practise of the same techniques. A high degree of in game freedom to truly explore the fantasy world.
Playstation
RPG
A more compact quest than the open gaming world featured in the initial instalment with players savouring the action through different time lines that cross each other adding to the replay potential. Painstakingly beautiful gaming world that is full of vibrancy thanks to the 2D graphics. Executed with that distinctive Square class that the developer exudes.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Rendered sprites to give the femme fatale fight fest a fell of pseudo 3D, but it is just eye candy for a 2D engine. Plenty of chit-chat to make the most of the license, including the obligatory pre- and post-bout banter.
Playstation
RPG
Based on the Journey to the West legend: join Monkey, Pigsy, Sandy and Tripitaka on their quest to India to find the Buddhist scriptures. Train up your skills in each town’s Dojo to ensure you’re suitably beefed up to whip the next batch of devils into shape with Monkey’s magical extending pole.

Simulation
Beautiful fan book with plenty of screen shots to discuss the Playstation drama game. Every decision seems to have an influence over the very enjoyable story.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
A very popular compilation on the PSX with the first two parts of the Samurai Shodown series looking just as savvy as the AES versions. Weaponry adds an extra element to the fighting in this exciting series with all the drama of Kabuki theatre.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Darker third installment from the Garapagos team with many new characters and more damaging specials. Loved by some, others resented the increased damage level decreasing bout time. Still slicing an opponent brings a worrying degree of satisfaction.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Spine tingling atmospherics set by the excellent oriental orchestral score with tumbling leaves or snow falling. There are some pretty gruesome moves to add a bit of colour to the snow, including self inflicted seppuku. Big, bold sprites make this an SNK winner. Subtitled Amakusa’s Revenge Special, the series is also known as Samurai Shodown.
Playstation
Simulation
Fans of the almighty Gundam series will lap this huge spralling game covering two discs up.
Playstation
Simulation
Turn based battle simulator with very enjoyable combat sequences where the player gets to lock horns with opponent in real time, side scrolling battles with shrunk down robots from the Gundam world.
Playstation
RPG
Classical Chinese setting for this adventure complete with a senior gentleman who wouldn’t look out of place in the Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountains. The towns look delightful and the music suitably classy.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Developed from an anime series, Shaman King sees you being able to charge up a spirit meter through pressing the correct button when urged to do so by your spirit persona. When the meter is full the persona can be summoned to unleash a frenzied assault on your unexpecting opponent in true over the top anime style. Exquisite presentation as you’d expect from Bandai with full bodied voice acting and silky smooth cut scenes. Masses of unlockable characters too.
Playstation
Sports
Similar to the Virtua wrestling title on the Saturn with the Playstation’s tell tale grasp of polygons and hopefully that’s all that will be grasped in this wrestle fest. Contestants have a wide roster of moves and the shift to polygons allows for more realistic representation of the famed, Saturday afternoon sport.
