Playstation

Here we have all the games in the Playstation Section.
Playstation
Action
Expands on the Rockman or Megaman series by following the roguish Tron and her army of robots. Charge around towns using mechanical mayhem created by the robots to rob the poor town folk and escape police stings. Captures Capcoms craft and guile in producing fine arcade action titles full of colour and with relentless pacing. Known in Japan as Toron ni Kobun. Part of the Rockman Dash series.
Playstation
Simulation
Sprightly puzzle game where tiles must be rotated to clear the screen: much easier in practise than words. Adopts various styles to the game view be it the dynastic classical Chinese mahjong tiles, fantasy role playing medieval style or playing cards on the beach setting.
Playstation
Sports
Full of the rough and tumble atmosphere of the Shinto sport as the referee bellows away with wood print style cel shaded graphics. As in the real sport getting a good start is imperative as you gamble on one of the buttons to begin and launch off your haunches. Matches are decide by a knock down or ring out with timing of the button bashing assault being all important.
Playstation
Sports
An array of swimmers from the innocent to the evil looking to take to the pool to try and blow away the opposition with a good, rhythmical stroke.
Playstation
Sports
Enjoy a relaxing game of ping pong at the local school, out of town hot spring or even outer space in this tidy table tennis title with ten characters in the cute ‘Minna no Golf’ graphical style. Fine rallies are possible especially in a well matched two play stand off. Hot springs and table tennis are a winning combination.
Playstation
Action
Nicely themed action title taking the player through various eras including prehistoric (armed with clubs), feudal Japan (complete with obligatory throwing stars and samurai swords), the wild West, The American Civil War, the Roman Empire and also into the future. Each era is well represented and adds to the shifting diversity. Time is the essence and a meter gradually decreases throughout the game – only collecting power ups can replenish it.
Playstation
Puzzle
All your favourite high school characters in a Puyo Puyo style saccharine sweet puzzle game. Boutique babe Ms. Kagami is a favourite in the Genki office.
Playstation
Action
Madcap melee of a foot race game in which players charged round the devious courses avoiding the attacks of fellow competitors and trying to use fulcrum grabbing techniques to swing round tight corners to avoid loosing momentum. Full title: Gekisou Tomarunner.
Playstation
Platform
Second outing on the PSX and Tomba is in fine fettle on his quest to recue his friend from the marauding pigs. Tomba is armed to the teeth with a plethora of fun weaponry. Selectable views add much to the playability of this very enjoyable platformer. Known as Tombi in Europe for some reason.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Few will forget the spherical glory of Tohshinden when it first captured the potential of the Playstation for real 3D fighters. The eye candy was all it needed to sell, yet the gameplay is distinctly 2.5D. Happy days and memories, especially when the alternative was another go on Kileak the Blood.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
The sequel lavishes more textures on Toushinden’s ellipses and features some fabulous backgrounds from the peace and tranquillity of the forest stage to the flashing strobe of the disco dance floor, if saying that doesn’t make Genki sound too old. The detail is balanced correctly with playability and as such the speed of the contest zips along.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
A nice collectable for Playstation and Toshinden fans as Playstation Magazine promoted the release of Toushinden 2 in Japan.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Lots of love for Toshinden’s style of fight action with its distinctive ellipse like appearance of its pugilists. The series went on to gain strength and its quick paced action helps this third instalment flex its muscles.
Playstation
Sports
Zippy race game with plenty of tunnels and mountain passes with impressive frame rate and draw distance. Good feeling of velocity with plenty of in game avatars to meet that wouldn’t look out of place at a late night race meet. Known in the West as Peak Performance.
Playstation
Puzzle
A highly-collectable puzzle game in which players must get their brains thinking on the lines of triangles to slot them together and deliver punishing chains to your opponent. A cheery array of characters and enjoyable in-game animations for those with enough time to glance at them. Developer Santos is better known for Airgrave and Stahlfeder on the format.
Playstation
Simulation
Sequel to the popular dating simulation set in a Japanese high school where you must charm your way into the heart of Nozomi, Midori or even Saeko sensei!

Playstation
Shoot Em Up
Lushly pastel shaded vertically scrolling shoot ’em up from the reliable Konami stable celebrating ten years of Twinbee. Off – shoot of the Gradius and Parodius series. Shooter heads may find its frivolous gameplay a little easy, but everyone will enjoy the ride.
Playstation
RPG
Twinbee takes its Opa Opa style ships on legs and spins them into a fine yarn in the 3D mode of many Playstation titles yet with plenty of spit and polish added by Konami. A fun side quest from the blaster action with plenty of gags and the usual colour of the brash and bold series.
Playstation
A Bit Special
A real cult following behind this game and also ‘Moon’ due to the developer’s blank canvas approach to realising their real work of passion. In UFO players must take photos in order to identify aliens missing from a crash. Basically suspicious events occur which are a good indicator of some alien involvement. These photos can be then used to locate the MIA aliens. Requires careful thought and observation and reveals that all games don’t have to be the same.

Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Fine fight title which takes a first person take on the 3D flurry of fists. Enjoyable characters and sense of perspective as Ultraman knocks down giant Tori gate (accidentally of course.) Its the spooky face of Alien Manon which unsettled Genki with its silvery, baby like charm.
Playstation
Simulation
Three girls must save the earth from marauding aliens with the help of their mech suits and you. Popular sci fi title in Japan due to the high quality of the anime based cut scenes and exquisite audio.
Playstation
RPG
Enchanting RPG from those skilled craftsmen at Enix that flew in the face of the expected mould of the genre with free flight between villages and dungeons and horizontally viewed exploration like in Princess Crown. All exquisitely executed with panache and distinct graphical style.
Playstation
RPG
With a mightily impressive full 3D polygon world, Konami produced a sleek RPG to cast a spell over Square. But as all good RPGers worth their hit points know it’s the story where such titles flourish or fall on their sword and the crack Nagoya team has come up trumps again. Full of tactical, strategic battles with a sense of foreboding and menace that all is not well in the Vandal Hearts world.
Playstation
RPG
Isometric RPG that has supreme attention to detail in the levels such as the blue, translucent flame lamps. The quest has many ups and downs matched by an incredible orchestral score to make every emotion more intense.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
3D battle fest as the Playstation gets in on this popular N64 series act and with its plethora of special moves and fighting styles there’s never a dull moment. Features unlockable characters and a replay mode to savour your fine timing or cast a critical eye over your bad choice of move. Smashing variety in the backgrounds too with each stage appropriately themed to its inhabitant be it the evil stage or the vast open desert.
Playstation
Sports
When France came good and Ronaldo went awol as Les Blues united the country in their domination of all before them. Relive the moment or rewrite history as Konami sweeps the ball from wing to wing with precision passing and a thrilling crossing system that brings in this crucial factor of the real game into the home conversion. Just try and resist heading it yourself as the cross swings in.
Playstation
Sports
A well-balanced football game that relies fully on players skill to shine through, rather than sweet areas of the pitch where a goal always ensues. A slick passing game.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
2D fighter looking fine on the PSX: souped up in this EX Edition so it can conjure the magic of the arcade without breaking into sweat or slowdown. Seeing the huge Juggernaut in fluid action must bring a smile to the face of Capcom’s head honcho.
