PS2

Here we have all the games in the PS2 Section.
PS2
RPG
Fantasy style space adventure (or should that be Phantasy with its similarity to PSO?) The group battles are intense and the plot woven with the extreme skill of a games company with a wealth of experience. Very emotive soundtracl perfectly suited to the on screen action.
PS2
RPG
A compendium of footage and info for fans of the series which also includes a playable demo of the fine Xenosaga II, allowing players to sample its sleek, sci-fi turn based simulation mechanics. There is also a game of Japanese scrabble in there to help build up the true otaku’s vocabulary for the next Xenosaga convention.

A Bit Special
A superb concept and it works like a treat as players expertly use cooking chopsticks to deliver and flip slices of meat and vegetables to hungry punters. The meat sizzles away and the sound effects are very authentic so you can almost smell the beef grilling over the hot coals making for a great pre dinner blast. Customers chatter away but burnt meat or slow service will soon have their satisfaction meter tumbling down. Theres a great array of clients though but harder levels reveal a gaggle of fussy gourmet diners.
PS2
Side Scrolling Beat Em Up
Draws on the Yankee gang styling that runs a deep undercurrent in Japanese society: street punks with distinctive kanji adorned clothing and often close held affinity to rev head bikes. And what a fine source material for any game to draw on. Those Chinese character kanji appear over the fights to add manga style sound effects. The first mistake would be to under-estimate a female opponent: the girls give as good as they’ve got. But before that players must break out of jail and beat the boss: a tough crim which takes a bit of button bashing when the challenge pops up. Has a feel inspired by Tecmos Kunio as iron bars and other suitably vicious weapons can be utilised for a brief stint. As can an adrenalin fuelled assault – possibly the result of too many of those caffeine filled bottles?
PS2
Action
Looking like a tribute to the mighty Jet Set Radio is a compliment indeed with super fly, fresh, cel shaded graphics full of garish colours and free form surrounds to skate or die for. Comes with a finger board attachment for the Dual Shock to make the skate moves players pull off all the more sweetly rewarding. A quirky skate title that stand out from the crowd and Koei should be applauded for that. Also known as Yanya Caballista City Skater.

A Bit Special
A real treat as Sony goes out on a limb requiring the player to voice act to the various in game scenarios: be in horror movie, comedy scene or Western to great comic value.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
Yusuke was always a tough lad at school having had a rough upbringing before he was killed saving a child at fourteen. He then enters the spirit world where he can thankfully carry on dishing out beatings as in this fight fest brought from the skilled art house of Banpresto. Reminiscent of Bleach in terms of artistic style, the series’ characters come to life on the PS2.
PS2
Action
Its not so much what you see in Fatal Frame, more what you imagine is around the corner, breathing heavily. The young lady star of the game called Miku must hold her nerve and capture the supernatural occurrences in the creepy mansion on her camera.
PS2
RPG
Very pretty collaboration with an old hand at action RPG’s Falcom showing it still knows a trick or two. Played with two characters needing adventurers to switch between the two utilising attacks and magic as the scenario requires. Players can even bring up a cat or dog and power them up as progress is made to assist in collecting items or battling adversaries. Light puzzle elements with the emphasis firmly on action elements.
