This game involves choosing various options such as to open a drawer or door to try and get to the bottom of why Laura’s father has murdered a patient in the hospital he works. Unnerving action at times as the gaming world warps like a psychotic episode.

The original D represented a key period in gaming history before the 3DO went critical, without which would we have had Silent Hill or Biohazard? Kenji Eno san delves into the dreaded “Interactive Movie” genre but the results are incomparable to early Mega CD releases. Disturbed and depraved survival horror from the Canadian outlands.

A superb Nihon centric title as our hero (looking like a Shaolin priest) launches a series of slight of foot attacks: leaping ninja like between tile like platforms and dispatching fireballs in the direction of silent assassin adversaries. Plenty of hidden power ups to give a welcome boost to the quest that has a mystic, Buddhist feel to proceedings. Certainly the giant statue head has a oriental look: but dont admire for too long as its tongue comes out and it jumps around the screen. Known by its full title of Meiwaku Jiin Dababa.

Hugely successful series in its native Japan and this PSP update utilises everything that has made the game the success it is. The model based robots have never looked so luscious in their cel shaded glory and the ability to run around the main shopping street before popping into battle world keeps the gaming varied. Yet its the combat where this excels to levels to keep the most demanding otaku happy.

Dance Summit features some real rip roaring tunes to groove to as you dress up as a Mexican wrestler or Disney style bird to mention but two of the extravagant costumes. The controller comes with a mini version of a PS2 controller (albeit with no dual sticks) and pads which attach to your palms allowing you to really get in the groove whilst cracking out some shapes. Part of the Bust A Move series.

Old school shooter but done in the third dimension producing quite stunning results with crisp, colourful pixels on the small screen. Utilises the dual screen and touch function well with a useful radar, but its wireless two player with only one cart that really whisks up a hail of bullets frenzy. Quite rare of late.

Few will forget the gameplay of Daredevil Derby 3D if they sampled it back in the day. Even today the results are impressive as the whole screen rotates to the players turns of their vehicle. And its not just cities that players will race through: most memorable is the cloud level which sees players fly through a path in the clouds as a giant airship avoiding the distractions of the seagulls. Known in the West as Supersonic Racers.
PS Vita

Classic shooter Darius gets a Vita update to get those trigger fingers twitching more than a freshly dispatched robotic cat fish boss. The darkness of deep space contrasts beautifully against the ships pyrotechnics as blast after blast illuminates the screen well suited to horizontal shooters. And of course the multi route selection remains adding plenty of replay value to those who can stick at it like a limpet.

The hardware is more than capable, but the mindset many need more manipulation. Yet this is no hardware demonstration gimmick: Taito knows how to make an STG and none of the recipe has been skimped on for the sake of a graphical show boat. The Darius fish never looked so fluid.
