PS2
RPG
Mysterious MMORPG except that it isn’t online but just created to feel like it is with masses of players and emailed updates. And the sci fi feel is very cleverly done. The Hack story is based on Hackers into the main computer and the game features plenty of conspiracy and double – crossing that have seen the series snowball into an underground gaming phenomena.

Designed to house the Mega Drive Mini and its cables in one, retro filled carry case to keep it dust and scratch free. Not that its likely to be put away for long…
Super Famicom
A Bit Special
Super Chinese World, Super Ultra Baseball and Hiryu no Ken Golden Fighter make up the three titles on Volume One. A good mix with sport covered by the baseball. Then there’s Super Chinese World jammed full of Chinese cultural references, or at least Chinese culture from a Japanese perspective, it can be pretty zany at times. And finally Golden Fighter is a fighting fit conversion of the one on one coin op bruiser with story mode and versus mode. Good blend of bare hand boxing and slight of hand weaponry making this a solid and entertaining package.
Super Famicom
A Bit Special
Fighters History, Joe & Mac 2 (aka Congo’s Caper) and Super Birdie Rush. So a good package of fighting, sport and platforming: a simple platforming romp to match the bright primary colours used to create the platforming, prehistoric world complete with pterodactyls and power ups. Yet data East have a certain coin op je ne sais quoi that shines through brightly bringing this game to life with a plethora of fun. Known in Japanese as Tatakae Genshijin 2. Subtitled Rookie no Bouken
Super Famicom
A Bit Special
A fine compilation of retro goodness from Retro Bit That includes the sublime Joe & Mac 3, the action puzzler Magical Drop 2 and the pool game Side Pocket. A good balance to the roster of titles, all well-presented in Data Easts arcade style. But more should be playing Joe & Mac 3, even on the platform dominated Super Famicom.
Mega Drive
Rhythm
Famed for its Famicom revival, Columbus Circle turns its fair hand to the 16Bit circuit with impressive results. Based on a rhythm action premise, there are four games; baseball relies on hitting in time to the beat, the Space Invaders style shooting is again in time to the rhythm, the platform action requires jumping hazards to the music and finally the space defense relies on using the shields at the right time and in the right place. Roll on more MD action.
Famicom Cart
Shoot Em Up
Tate, meaning vertical, scrolling shoot em up from Capcom’s classic stable of WWII plane blasters. Good, solid arcade mechanics and plenty to keep the guns ratatating in both smaller planes and the big, bad boss versions.
Super Famicom
Sports
A brilliant conversion of the Neo Geo classic that can be best recommended as a baseball game good enough even if you’re not interested in the sport. Various android competitors compete including a ‘Smash’ robot. A few no balls will see them ready to blow a gasket, but a well connected hit will bring all the ott celebrations you’d expect from an SNK design sports title.
Super Famicom
One on One Beat Em Up
Very fresh visual effects as pugilists are concocted from spheres keeping the action fast with the fighters suppleness. Despite all combatants being composed of spheres there are a good mix of fighters each with their own special moves such as the Bulls charge.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Impressive 3D and scaling for a machine not meant to be suited to the third dimension. Crystal Dynamics shows off its 3DO programming knowledge gained on the Saturn with plenty of use of the official license in names and digitised avatars.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
Ever thought you could better design the characters and moves in a fight title? This gives budding designers the chance to build their own fighters with mystery special moves. It also includes Enter Brains own pugilists for those happy to look for a bit of inspiration first.
Playstation
Shoot Em Up
Tribute to Dezaemon as gamers get to become construction kings of the 3D shooter. The ultimate dream of fans of the genre from Star Fox to Star Blade. Now its possible to prove you could do it better.
Sega Saturn

Based on the anime where modern day Tokyo and the supernatural world collide with supernatural goings on wherever Pai seems to go. A digital adventure not for the faint hearted. Stylish anime graphics.

Sega Saturn
Simulation
A well drawn anime adventure with three small stars each about 15cm in height. Makes good use of the difference in size between these three ladies and the rest of the games characters reminiscent of the Borrowers or Arriety, as the Miyzaki anime was known.
Famicom Cart
Soundtrack
Proof of Columbus Circles dedication to the cause comes in this demonstration of the Famicom’s chip tune architecture. Its non-playable, but fans of synthetised game music will lap up the tunes and the animated dancers on screen (with a display of the way the tune is made.)

Figures
Figure
Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong figures produced in a blocky style to replicate the 8Bit era. Adds plenty of retro chic to any desktop.

Big in Japan with its addictive blend of railroad building and city development. Good rail infrastructure allows you to ship in raw materials to expand the city and build hotels or ski resorts. But a well planned passenger network in the key to success. Part five introduces full 3D for the ultimate in urban planning.
Soundtracks
Soundtrack
Known as Zombie Nation in the West, this is a true Japan-centric classic made with its Nihon audience in mind and it revels in its cultural delight, much like this soundtrack that captures the devious nature of the classic Famicom game. Subtitled: ROM Cassette Disk In Meldac.
Switch
A Bit Special
No one did over the top like SNK and it brings a tear to the eye to see these titles Neo Geo again: not that Genki had encountered Shock Troopers being so rare.  King of Fighters 94, Metal Slug X, Garou Mark of the Wolves, Samurai Spirits Zero, Aso II, Rising Hero, Top Hunter, Top Players Golf, Savage Reign and Shock Troopers make up the very accomplished roll of honour.
🏆Brilliant!
