Nintendo 64
Sports
Nice tennis game with a N64 feel to the graphics as players slug it out complete with plenty of adverts for Hudson and Mizuno, plus some nice umpire speech and replays. Known as Centre Court Tennis in the West.
Playstation
Sports
Intriguing twist on the football scene in that players take a third person perspective view of their teams star man and play the 90 minutes as that single player. Give and go or risk being subbed off after thirty minutes.
Playstation
Sports
Intriguing twist on the football scene in that players take a third person perspective view of their teams star man and play the 90 minutes as that single player. The sequel is equally skilled on the ball with plenty of tricks up the sleeve to drop a shoulder.
Sega Saturn
A Bit Special
Little known ‘life adventure’ game in a futuristic science style setting.
Nintendo Hardware
Accessory
Useful gadget to boost the light for the original GameBoy as it had no back light for the screen. So sneaking a go under the covers became a distinct possibility.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
A tongue in cheek take on the fighting world from Konami, not particularly renowned for its fighters, but this is an accomplished piece of well presented programming. The action is 3D all interspersed with smooth 2D cut scenes adding much to the entertainment. Mega combos and massive super moves which are charged by holding the button down when given the opportunity.
Super Famicom
Platform
As one might expect from a Disney backed title, the animation is incredible as Simba progresses from canny cub into lion with the ability to claw at enemies. The stampede section has made it in as a side scrolling scramble at break neck speeds and there are plenty of nice touches that go to make a platformer stand out from the crowd, or pride.

PC Engine FX
Simulation
Futuristic battle sim and nurture game as the Little Cats team gets up to plenty of mischief in deep space with all the lavish anime and voice acting you may expect from an FX title.
Sega Saturn
Action
Punching through the land and dropping bombs to create gaps to squeeze through the gaps to collect the treasure on offer before the timer runs out. A vast screen on offer and all viewable without scrolling so players can plan their assault against the clock. Superb old school entertainment.
Super Famicom
Simulation
Falcom produced strategy war game which is a continuation of the Dragon Slayer series. Set in a cutesy, medieval Europe allowing the developer plenty of license for the fantasy setting.
Soundtracks
Soundtrack
Grandiose titles for appropriately regal sounding scores with titles such as Battle III, Royal Captain Avalan and Dracovantel. Square Enix on top form again.
PS3
Shooter
Cinematic shooting action as Capcom blends the boundary between Hollywood blockbuster and triple A gaming. Plenty of nice surprises as players run and gun anything that moves. The Japanese version has Japanese subtitles to the cut scenes and uses English for the audio.
Playstation
Action
Played in Matrix style environments that break up as they are destroyed to reveal sparking circuitry beneath, players take control of one of the three female androids charged with extinguishing the alien threat. Each lovely android has her own attributes: the all rounder, the slow, but punch packing and the nippy but weedy requiring different androids for the various missions and the weapons are very satisfying. Controls are similar to Virtual On with the analogue sticks coming to the fore: soon mastered though giving a great sense of interaction. The anime cut scenes are of production quality and good reward for a hard fought battle. Yet to see the whole selection takes time and increases the replay value multi-fold with performance determining which sequence is rewarded.
Playstation
Sports
Graphically simplistic tennis game neatly drop shot-ing the polygon heavy approach for a more playable full screen affair. Rally potential aplenty with plenty of venues and characters to choose from.

Dreamcast
Simulation
A bumper Love Hina package from back in the Dreamcast heyday coming with lushly animated isometric adventure complete with roulette system for tricky to make decisions. It also included a beautiful mailing system to send emails via the Dreamcast to friends. It is hard to convey the sheer size of this limited edition and might go a way to explaining, whilst Sega fans could feel their love of the Dreamcast being reciprocated by Sega, somewhat why it was a commercial struggle with such huge boxes and generous gifts.

Fabulous tribute to Luigi. Well deserved too as he ably supports Mario more and more. Fine quality.
PSP
Puzzle
From the creator of Rez, comes another son et lumiere extravaganza requiring blocks of different colour to be matched up. Masive combos are possible giving immense satisfaction. Some breath taking backgrounds too that seem to pulsate to the beat and allow you to fully appreciate the PSP’s detailed screen. Sweet soundtrack that puts you firmly in the game’s trance.
Sega Saturn
RPG
Truly wonderful Japanese RPG following the Lunar series with lush anime interludes and great sprite based graphics. Reminiscent of Miyazaki’s fine work.
Mega CD
RPG
An enchanting plot, sublime sound and intuitive yet effective controls make this one of the main reasons to own the system, besides the cult classics. Updated to the 32Bit big brothers, but many believe this was the finest hour.
Playstation
RPG
Advanced RPG engine in that every action in game has an effect on the overall quest, even seemingly insignificant events. Players have full control over their destiny as the game starts you off in a random section of the immense gaming world. This allows RPG-ers to express their own personality: be it peace loving or belligerent. Very impressive levels of freedom for a home console.
PS2
Action
A fine stealth title as Lupin once again goes after the loot and Fujiko uses her booty. Creeping past infra red beams and sneaking by guards is the order of the day as whilst it is possible to fight, its best not to draw too much attention. A delightful series and worthy gaming translation. Just try not humming the theme tune.

Coming as a real treat for fans of the loveable rogue Lupin are these two well crafted PVC figures. Its nice that manufacturers reward preorder customers with such goodies, especially when of such high quality. Lupins charm and cheek shines through with Fujiko san looking typically stylish.
PS2
Action
Loveable rogue Lupin on the run again avoiding the authorities by dishing out some rough justice with a frying pan in true comic style. Lupin also stays under the noses of the incompetent police by pinching uniforms to aid his escape. A fine 3D action adventure with the classical musical score adding to its cut-above feel. Also known as Lupin III Majutsu-Ou no Isan.
