And Treasure got the Saturn performing veritable cartwheels in terms of graphical boundaries which are pushed into the outer stratosphere. But just as much time has been spent on the play mechanics with a highly original weapons system. Sheer class on the Switch for all to savour.

Superb and memorable battles as the developers are able to throw off the cloak of Final Fantasy and cut loose in terms of gaming style without the pressure of an expectant audience and sequel syndrome. Bringing down the off shore giant particularly sticks in the memory and the combat is quick and intuitive. A superb story backs up the hard work that has gone into its core engine and the presentation is impeccable.

Captures all that’s good about race games with a high pitch engine, sweeping courses, tight tunnels and some racing glamour. Still not much need to jam on the anchors, but few who love the series would anyway.

Conversion of the much heralded Seibu Kaihatsu coin-op that never relied on cheap tricks or gimmicks, just simple play mechanics, hardcore level structures, a riffing soundtrack and good old fashioned high scores awarded for collecting medals. The weapons can be powered up but there are only two to select along with two supplementary bomb attacks. Pure arcade shooting action.

The soundtrack is relentless, the in game characters given a millennial make over, yet veteran gamers may fear not as the action remains true to its pure adrenalin roots. Some may even be tempted to take advantage of the different play modes to flip back through a particularly turbulent section. A fine tribute to a much-loved series.

Moss excels under the weight of the series history taking it to Mach speed whilst respecting the ships and attack meters of the much-loved plane-based shooter. The hardware permits for new dimensions of bullet hell and its a good job for You Tube to be able to assess later levels, such is the pitiful progress Genki has made thus far. A fine title even considering the excellence attained in part IV that tips its wings to those that have served bravely before.

Tactical positioning of battlements a must in order to repel enemy invasions and keep in charge of the battle. The best compliment Genki could pay is to say Rampart produces a feel of a full scale battle without ever feeling too simy due to its fine interface. Some great military beats too.
