Here we have all the games in the Sports Section.
Nintendo 64
Sports
Plenty of twists, turns, snow drifts, flips and fun in this fine take on snowboarding that captures some of its carefree attitude to careering down the slopes at break neck speeds. Nice take on the genre and looking nice on the Nintendo roku jyu yon.
Super Famicom
Sports
A brilliant conversion of the Neo Geo classic that can be best recommended as a baseball game good enough even if you’re not interested in the sport. Various android competitors compete including a ‘Smash’ robot. A few no balls will see them ready to blow a gasket, but a well connected hit will bring all the ott celebrations you’d expect from an SNK design sports title.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Impressive 3D and scaling for a machine not meant to be suited to the third dimension. Crystal Dynamics shows off its 3DO programming knowledge gained on the Saturn with plenty of use of the official license in names and digitised avatars.
GameBoy Advance
Sports
World courses that have a distinct feel of the Super Famicom’s Mode 7 about them as drivers power drift according to the navigators spoken instructions. Fine sense of speed and motion with an impressive draw distance given the limitations of the hardware.
Playstation
Sports
A skydiving game which allows participants to remain air born longer than rival divers by pulling off dare devil tricks. The victorious diver is the one who pulls the rip cord last – thus the diver who has performed most stunts. In game tricks are graded according to their complexity with the real big ones requiring a few successful combos to grind to a near in-air halt. The game produces a good sense of velocity as players hurtle back towards earth.
PS2
Sports
Enjoying success on the N64 Acclaim brought its happy hitting baseball game to the PS2 with an enormous polygon count bringing out impressive levels of realism. Yet the gameplay hedges more towards the big sluggers than other baseball titles with plenty of home run potential. Not every other hit though, but the balance is just right to keep that special big hit feel. Players faces have some great expressions helping get involved in the games up and down emotions.
PS2
Sports
Each wrestler makes a dramatic introduction complete with visual razzmatazz to get the adrenalin flowing pre-bout. Plenty of care and attention has been laden on the gameplay rather than just on each wrestler’s persona making for a fluid grapple. Square’s RPG eye for detail remains firmly intact with spots of blood remaining in the same place during the bout. And as innovatively as ever the controls are implemented by the analogue sticks making pulling off a special an achievement rather than a piece of cake adding much reward to a victory.
PC Engine HU Card
Sports
Gate ball is the sport of croquet more or less and with some fine, Japanese style theming, players must not only whack the ball through the gate, but also think about the dangle of the angle for their next shot. Works well on the Engine.
Playstation
Sports
Massive title in Japan as the driver steers a massive truck against a rival firm to be the first to deliver the consignment. The ‘Battle’ of the title comes from the dirty tricks required to cut off the rival driver to win the race. The ‘Art’ comes from the delightful designs that can be added to the truck with a few bob in your pocket complete with flashing chilli lights for the dashboard – a sign of good taste on the highways of Japan. Creative truckers can also spend some time creating their own designs. Full title: ‘Bakusou Dekotora Densetsu: Art Truck Battle.’
Super Famicom
Sports
F Zero style racer with a medley of psychedelic racers looking like a futuristic take on the Tetsuwan Atom series. The game positively zips along with plenty of colour used in the tracks as well as the racers outfits.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Some great imagination to mix up the action with a track and hurdle level, mountain path with wild boar, a section based on the tunnels of a pyramid as well as lakeside and riverside levels. The height of retro chic. Designed to be played with the Family Trainer.
Super Famicom
Sports
Horse racing simulator for the dedicated Super Famicom completists or those studying to be a book maker in Japan.
Playstation
Sports
A dream football title that takes the beautiful game to new heights with its brilliant special moves. Each team has a trick that can be used to help in attack or defence based on their nationality. For example the Scandinavian teams can change player into a hulking Viking boat or the Brazilians can change into the Christ the Redeemer statue to temporarily block a path to goal. The special meter must be sufficiently charged preventing over use of these special attributes, but it adds a lot to a very slick play engine to leave even the mighty Winning Eleven on the seat of its pants.

Sports
Early baseball game from the sturdy SNK stable that uses that unique, exaggerated emotions of the players to capture the fun of the sport. Spoilt sluggers will lose their tempers snapping the bat in two at being out, but the mechanics are nice and simple making it easy to pick up and play for those lacking a passion for pitching and without an inkling for batting.
Nintendo 64
Sports
Update of the Super Famicom top seller with Itoi Shigesato given a full 3D work out on the N64. Initial catches won’t go breaking your tsuri controller, but these smaller catches can be used to bring in hard cash for upgrading the boat and equipment. As with all fishing, chatting to the locals will reveal the latest hot spots to check out for that killer bass. Just make sure the rumble pack is switched on to get that feel for the bite.
Super Famicom
Sports
Quite arsoter of characters to choose from from yound whippersnapper to seasoned bass vet before taking to the wee boat and venturing out into the lake. Sensors give a good idea as to where to cast off and then the view turns to the underwater camera and the challenge of bagging a bass worthy of bragging about back in the club house.
Super Famicom
Sports
Overhead perspective race title that simulates the real sport in the need for lightening fast reflexes and ideally a good memory of the the corners. Increases the tactical element by requiring pit stops and the overall presentation is as good as any race girl.
Super Famicom
Sports
SD football at its finest with shrunken versions of Gundam and Kamen Rider nipping down the wing to use their super-human powers to rise like a canary and ripple the onion net. Plenty of futuristic stadiums to choose from.

Super Famicom
Sports
Super Deformed style motorcycle game which outs the SFC through its Mode 7 paces. The screen is split to use a rear view from the top screen so players can prevent getting overtaken.
Playstation
Sports
Fine ball physics and interesting characters to play against, including the Train Spotting look a like Timothy. Players must be wary of getting hustled when greenbacks are on the table. Not sure what Ronnie would make of the fast-paced soundtrack between shots mind.
Mega Drive
Sports
Ten pin bowling very well represented with the screen split into three: the bottom half showing the progress of the ball against the skittles and to line it up, the top two halves show the remaining skittles and the players avatar. This adds a good bit of emotion to the sport and the set up works very well.
Playstation
Sports
British gamers will get their strawberries and cream in a twist over this Ocean developed tennis title. Solid polygon sprites battle it out for on-court supremacy.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Polygon based tennis title with some detailed textures and nice touches such as the players walking on and off for their drink of orange squash during the break. Not quite Virtua Tennis on the Saturn, but an impressive interpretation non the less.
PC Engine HU Card
Sports
King of the ring slug fest from the dark destroyer Cream, with the bonus of a side scrolling beat ’em up thrown in there for good measure like Legend of Success Joe on the Neo Geo in which you hunt down your father’s killers. Some cool and mean pugalists and trainers to choose from including Cutie Ann and the Yakuza look a like Mr. Ran. Training is also possible in the gym with medicine balls tossed at you to test your reflexes along with bag work.
Playstation
Sports
A racing game that stirs nostalgic memories amongst gamers of a certain vintage, such was its graphical attainment on the humble Playstation and more arcade style gameplay.
Super Famicom
Sports
Classic Atari fun in the Californian sun with summer sports to savour and impress the judges with your prowess for riding the crest of a wave amongst other events.
PC Engine HU Card
Sports
With a multitude of contestants each with different personalities and special moves, there’s plenty here to keep the grapple fan pinned. A real scream in four player mode. Utilises a more subtle control method than the usual button bashers and gameplay is enhanced as a result.
Mega Drive
Sports
Arcade style play mechanics with international teams, cat like keepers and prima donna strikers. Simple to pick up and play but very enjoyable as a result.
Playstation
Sports
Combines the fun of pull back and go toy cars with the right blend of driving thrills and spills action. The cartoony approach over the realistic version makes it a very enjoyable ride.
