Nice chip tunes and sound effects so players know when the ball is going up and also, more importantly, when it is going to drop down for the catch. A very well thought out and nicely presented sports game that covers all bases. Known as Baseball Simulator 1.000 in the West.

Old Kunio kun couldn’t just have an athletics meet, oh no. The impressive 3D swimming level sees players able to switch lanes and assault mid stroke and hurdles get chucked across to fellow athletes too. The long jump and pole vault are particularly punishing being held between sky-scrapers. At least the Judoka behave as they should. Known in Japan as Bikkuri Nekketsu Shin Kiroku Harukanaru Kin Medal.
Gamecube
Sports
Captures the airs and expansive feel of the original arcade source material perfectly as you whizz around town picking up fares. Time constraints soon pile on the pressure, but that’s where the knowledge comes in. Being able to power slide the corners helps too, as well as impressing cheerleader passengers…
PC Engine HU Card

Futuristic dodgeball susbstituting robots for human players in a similar vein to Soccer Brawl on the Neo-Geo.
Playstation
Sports
Few will forget the gameplay of Daredevil Derby 3D if they sampled it back in the day. Even today the results are impressive as the whole screen rotates to the players turns of their vehicle. And its not just cities that players will race through: most memorable is the cloud level which sees players fly through a path in the clouds as a giant airship avoiding the distractions of the seagulls. Known in the West as Supersonic Racers.
Mega Drive
Sports
Basketball legend who was named rookie of the year and won gold in Barcelona with a basketball game to live up to his mighty name. Passing is smooth and its soon possible to flow down the court mimicking the speed of the real game. Another string to the sweet sounding Sega sports bow.
Sega Saturn
Sports
ST-V arcade athletics fest made a real impression on the Saturn with smooth polygon graphics and all the button bashing thrills and spills of the arcade. Where as running events are simple button bashers, timing on the hurdles for example requires precision jumping and a break from frantic button pummelling. Comes into its own in multiplayer.

Think Mario Kart but with plane-based levels as well as Nintendo entrusts Rare with its fine intellectual properties based on the Donkey Kong universe. The action itself odes not tax much cerebrally and its great fun to unleash a well-timed weapon.
Mega Drive

A fine tribute to the Japanese school playground favourite with power moves and some very enjoyable backgrounds including a tribute to the Miyajima sea shrine. Pleasant player animation brings out the character of this Kunio inspired title.

Super Famicom
Sports
Full of Kunio class right from the start as a knock of the ball causes one off the players to take one in the firecrackers. The players are always full of mischief with plenty of expression on their faces in the true Techno’s style of the series. Anime cut scenes crank up the tension in a school baseball based precursor to the hit Rookies series with solid slugging mechanics.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Sports
Pretty difficult to track down as the games star and biker gang look-a-like Kunio Kun has a strong following. Various track & field events spiced up by the ability to throw punches, bottles and even bowling balls during your rivals attempts.

Utilising its smooth flowing NBA engine, EA created a truly dream title with the incredible talents of Jordan, Johnson, Bird, Berkley et al that made up the 92 USA Olympic team. Its possible to select the best of the rest of the world team, but even with the cream of every other nation its tough to match their talents.
PS2
Sports
Break neck speed race title with a suitable soundtrack with enough beats to generate a potential nosebleed. Plenty of famous sites in the backgrounds but its hard to savour them first time round. Instead its left for the replays to be able to check out your paintwork and the sights on offer. But its clinging to the tail lights that will have most gamers lapping this up.
PS2
Sports
‘Feel the sports emotion’ as Square tackle real world physics of racing with a plethora of Japanese sports cars. Includes the Suzuka and lesser known Tsukuba circuits.
Playstation
Sports

Wii
Sports
Big 4×4 mother of all trucks going head to head with plenty of hot airs with the fun and frolics of the Wii controller adding much excitement. Being Nintendo developed there’s no need to read the manual Ethe simple controls and well-structured tutorials will soon have players putting their suspensions to the test. Not simply at out and out race either: drivers must balance a podium spot with keeping the fans entertained through stunts, big, comfortably-landed airs, barging opponent vehicles and spectacular crashes to gain sufficient bonus stars. And the well-thought out courses are a real hoot to race on, especially on a turbo.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Fans of the Commodore 64 cracker Kickstart will be right at home here as the fumes mass on this speedway simulator. A real chest of gold in Nintendo’s back catalogue that was updated to the N64. Fun from start to finish with big jumps and brave bends for those who refuse to relinquish grip on the throttle.
