Despite knocking a few noses out of joint at the time, the bold look to Zelda with its cel shaded in game graphics and seamless cut scenes make it appear like a wondrous Eastern European fable come to life. Yet the look was not merely to upset the apple cart of Zelda fanatics: the expressiveness on characters faces along with the ability to distinguish light and dark scenes adds to the emotional baggage Zelda picks up as the story unwinds. Yet there is a fair amount of cultural baggage to be amassed too: the sea feel is reminiscent of the Norse Prince anime and there are so many influences crammed into this joyous production. Praise be to Miyamoto san – always reinventing yet always delivering what will be regarded in time as a masterpiece.
