Playstation
Simulation
Players select options from the text as to their actions in this mysterious anime style adventure that takes place in a South American jungle setting.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Rendered sprites to give the femme fatale fight fest a fell of pseudo 3D, but it is just eye candy for a 2D engine. Plenty of chit-chat to make the most of the license, including the obligatory pre- and post-bout banter.
Playstation
Action
Self-described ‘trap simulation game’, torch-lit dungeons mask undead inhabitants awaiting in the shadows which players must lure into traps to save ones soul. Increasing ingenuity is required to progress and capture those that mean you malice. Genki’s favourite must be the gachapon style UFO catcher that grabs the Roman Legion in a comic twist from the sombre mood.
Playstation
RPG
Kenji Eno’s opus caused a real stir in the gaming world at the time of its release. This game involves choosing various options such as to open a drawer or door to try and get to the bottom of why Laura’s father has murdered a patient in the hospital he works. Unnerving action at times as the gaming world warps like a psychotic episode.
Playstation
Sports
Fine interpretation of the sport that left many behind in its slipstream with its fine handling and impressive draw distance.
PS2
Action
Its not so much what you see in Fatal Frame, more what you imagine is around the corner, breathing heavily. The young lady star of the game called Miku must hold her nerve and capture the supernatural occurrences in the creepy mansion on her camera.
PS2
RPG
Exquisitely detailed gaming world that is very accessible due to the isometric perspective. Set in a ancient European town, the castles, markets and inns look stunning and Konami has clearly put the hard yards in to ensure the ongoing success of the series. It may not come as a surprise to hear those castles also feature dark and pretty dank dungeons.
PS2
RPG
Lusciously shaded in pastel colours making for a beautiful world to romp around exploring. Once accustomed to its ways, you will barely notice the talking duck in helmet or the giant eagle to hitch a lift. Vastly underrated series.
Playstation
Simulation
Turn based battle simulator with very enjoyable combat sequences where the player gets to lock horns with opponent in real time, side scrolling battles with shrunk down robots from the Gundam world.
PS2
Shooter
Popular first person perspective shooter with a tactical element such as being able to use security cameras and their attachment guns to take down opponents lured out of position. Some terrifying bosses to battle too such as the multi-limbed robot with each hand a saw.
PS2
Action
Loveable rogue Lupin on the run again avoiding the authorities by dishing out some rough justice with a frying pan in true comic style. Lupin also stays under the noses of the incompetent police by pinching uniforms to aid his escape. A fine 3D action adventure with the classical musical score adding to its cut-above feel. Also known as Lupin III Majutsu-Ou no Isan.
Playstation
RPG
The ultimate in luxury for the RPG lover: the ability to change the script at various points in the game. So a handy item can be cunningly added, a boss battle for those that like to grind their EP or perhaps even getting whisked away to a different locale?
Playstation
Shooter
Genki doesn’t remember any shortage of 100 Yen coins, nor 10 Pence pieces for that matter; just a strange, cigarette burnt machine in the middle of the local toy shop. A must for any self respecting retro heads collection as a true piece of gaming history.
PS2
Action
Samurai sword fighting with skill required to master yielding the blade properly rather than just hack and slash. Worthy opponents have to be lured into making a mistake, before the steel blade swooshes in. The atmosphere is well-set with feudal Japan cut-scenes, beautiful buildings and obligatory cherry blossom.
PS2
Simulation
Bishonen romantic game with gothic look to the locales as Interchannel recreate a Japanese interpretation of a European setting.
PS2
RPG
RPG based on the popular Atelier series with cute carrots, kawaii blobs and smiley whales to converse with in the pastel shaded, lavishly illustrated world.
PS2
Action
Full of the vibrancy of the source anime yet a really enjoyable game in itself with the emphasis firmly on action with lots of battles and fluid combat moves. Highly commended.
PS2
RPG
Delightful, child-like look to the rounded graphics, matched by xylophone like music and fine use of light and dark. The look is distinctive and the evidence of the hard yards Sony has invested is plain to see with responsive camera angles.
Playstation
RPG
Romance and adventure all set to a typical game music (like you get lift music, apart from game music) and an imperial, fantasy setting: think Heroic Legend of Arslan anime. Ticks all the right boxes and a popular series that spanned onto the PCFX and Sega Saturn.
Playstation
Sports
Fun racing game due to the sprite graphics keeping action fast paced and the car physics a bit more forgiving. Great locales from the Big Truck arena to the Daytona style open circuit.
Playstation
Rhythm
Such a funky look to match the groovy beats as those with the music in them tap the button in tune to the toe tapping tracks. A real tour de force of the rhythm action games.
