Nintendo DS
RPG
A huge two Giga memory card goes some way to explaining the extraordinary level of detail Nintendo have attained in this tactical RPG that looks more like Panzer Dragoon Azel than a DS RPG. The fantasy setting has been painstakingly realised with outstanding effect and Nintendos pursuit of perfection.
Famicom Cart
Simulation
Sci Fi style imagery similar to Cobra with text to explore the locales such as search, check or speak. Real retro feel to the action from eighties Japan.
GameBoy Advance
RPG
Nintendo unleash their fine and healthy imagination in Ketchup World in this tomato themed action RPG really looking the colourful part. Surely a classic of the future and deserving of a wider audience.
GameBoy Advance
RPG
An elementary school feel to the town exploration with toy shop as the role-playing action starts with droids, often transforming into the robot related adventure from the safety of the bedroom. A collectable for the GBA.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Captures the anime’s vibrant energy and off-kilter nature as represented by Pandaman with his shark special moves. The locales are suitably zany with players exploring the whole arena such as the giant crab set in the desert with onlooking camels.
Playstation
RPG
Classical Chinese setting for this adventure complete with a senior gentleman who wouldn’t look out of place in the Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountains. The towns look delightful and the music suitably classy.
Playstation
Puzzle
A simple concept involving comparing two images side by side and finding the differences. Enjoyable
Playstation
A Bit Special
Enjoy the company of a dog and cat in the garden by feeding them, playing ball or even sending out a remote control car for them to chase round and round.
Playstation
Sports
An array of swimmers from the innocent to the evil looking to take to the pool to try and blow away the opposition with a good, rhythmical stroke.
Playstation
Rhythm
Self-titled musical adventure game, creators follow our funky dolphin through a showcase of techno infested waters, swimming through underwater cables to beautifully illuminated crystal mines with clams opening and flowers blooming to the beats.
Playstation
Simulation
Players select options from the text as to their actions in this mysterious anime style adventure that takes place in a South American jungle setting.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Rendered sprites to give the femme fatale fight fest a fell of pseudo 3D, but it is just eye candy for a 2D engine. Plenty of chit-chat to make the most of the license, including the obligatory pre- and post-bout banter.
Playstation
Action
Self-described ‘trap simulation game’, torch-lit dungeons mask undead inhabitants awaiting in the shadows which players must lure into traps to save ones soul. Increasing ingenuity is required to progress and capture those that mean you malice. Genki’s favourite must be the gachapon style UFO catcher that grabs the Roman Legion in a comic twist from the sombre mood.
Playstation
RPG
Kenji Eno’s opus caused a real stir in the gaming world at the time of its release. This game involves choosing various options such as to open a drawer or door to try and get to the bottom of why Laura’s father has murdered a patient in the hospital he works. Unnerving action at times as the gaming world warps like a psychotic episode.
Playstation
Sports
Fine interpretation of the sport that left many behind in its slipstream with its fine handling and impressive draw distance.
PS2
Action
Its not so much what you see in Fatal Frame, more what you imagine is around the corner, breathing heavily. The young lady star of the game called Miku must hold her nerve and capture the supernatural occurrences in the creepy mansion on her camera.
PS2
RPG
Exquisitely detailed gaming world that is very accessible due to the isometric perspective. Set in a ancient European town, the castles, markets and inns look stunning and Konami has clearly put the hard yards in to ensure the ongoing success of the series. It may not come as a surprise to hear those castles also feature dark and pretty dank dungeons.
PS2
RPG
Lusciously shaded in pastel colours making for a beautiful world to romp around exploring. Once accustomed to its ways, you will barely notice the talking duck in helmet or the giant eagle to hitch a lift. Vastly underrated series.
Playstation
Simulation
Turn based battle simulator with very enjoyable combat sequences where the player gets to lock horns with opponent in real time, side scrolling battles with shrunk down robots from the Gundam world.
PS2
Shooter
Popular first person perspective shooter with a tactical element such as being able to use security cameras and their attachment guns to take down opponents lured out of position. Some terrifying bosses to battle too such as the multi-limbed robot with each hand a saw.
PS2
Action
Loveable rogue Lupin on the run again avoiding the authorities by dishing out some rough justice with a frying pan in true comic style. Lupin also stays under the noses of the incompetent police by pinching uniforms to aid his escape. A fine 3D action adventure with the classical musical score adding to its cut-above feel. Also known as Lupin III Majutsu-Ou no Isan.
