Super Famicom
Shooter
A very faithful arcade conversion lacking only in cigarette burns in the cabinet and jammed coin slot. With added battle mode. Hard to put down even today. Subtitled The Original Game.
Super Famicom
Sports
FX chip utilised to full potential to generate a cutesy feel to the 3D race action. But as with every Nintendo title its the play mechanics that make this a real pleasure to play. That and the characterisation of the four different vehicles. Oh and the hidden secrets.
Super Famicom
Action
Varied gaming action from scrolling platform shooting sections to whizzing around on a motorbike with only a small spotlight to guide the way. Great mix of Gundam and Kamen Rider characters.
Super Famicom
Platform
Play God and use your human representative to bring a bit of justice to the land using a massive sword in the side scrolling platform sections. Exquisitely realised with wondrously detailed environs and an aural experience that is simply divine. There are also Sim City style planning sections where you help the villagers rebuild a peaceful existance.
Super Famicom
Side Scrolling Beat Em Up
Playable as either Gundam F-91 or Ultraman Great in super deformed, squashed down style this title also stars Kamen Rider Balck EX of the rich host of anime related characters on show. Side scrolling fighting action with added fireball move to lash out at the bizarre bunch of imaginative alien assailiants inspired by the Ultraman and Gundam series.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Kenji Endo’s sequel to D certainly has its share of spooky moments onboard the space station with the eerie silence and smooth FMV clips cranking up the tension. A title that heralded the new 32 Bit era.
Nintendo DS
RPG
Return to form of the lavish Final Fantasy franchise as a multiplayer team assembles once again to try and track down the source of the mystery poison gas and in the meantime use the heavily guarded Mana trees to keep it at bay. The look is stunning with smoggy gas and bedazzling shards of crystal refraction that maze with a splendid score. In a bid to keep the action ticking over experience points are replaced by the reward for completing action tasks. Its still necessary to build a balanced team with the skills required to progress.
Nintendo DS
RPG
Like a Pandora’s box the magic book has unleashed uninvited guests and requires our yellow feathered Chocobo to collect the pages to restore friends back to their bird like state. Like a children’s fable 2D stories loving set the scene and it’s a plethora of enjoyable mini games that must be completed to progress: be it an item grab, drawing with the stylus or a good ol’ Chocobo race. Also known as Final Fantasy Fables Chocobo Tales.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Sports
The young man will stop at nothing including leaving his girl behind to go to America in order to reach the pinnacle of the racing world. Cars must be tweaked and powered up in order to beat the rest.
32X

The Metal Head is a giant mech requiring piloting around the cityscapes taking down enemy targets and accidentally blasting chunks out of surrounding skyscrapers. All very impressively realised in textured polygons showing the prowess of the 32X in the right hands.
Mega Drive
RPG
More mysterious inter galactic goings on with epic battles supplemented by some useful items to collect. A superb series with plenty of devotees.
Famicom Cart
Action
Could be (badly) translated as Evil World Island and there are plenty of sea related escapades as our hero tosses barrels at all and sundry to clear the level. That includes the ginormous proportions of the bosses based loosely on Popeye’s rival Brutus at times. A good title from a solid stable.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Huge intro as you’d expect from anime experts Pioneer. Makoto must use his mysterious machine to save El Hazard again.
Sega Saturn
Stimulation
Love adventure with a wee bit extra that deems this title worthy of the yellow label warning. Interested parties should have good kanji ability or good luck if they hope to avoid offending Yuki, Ayako, Hikaru et al.
PC Engine HU Card
Platform
Like many sequels, Genpei further raised the stakes with bigger sprites and clearer sound effects. Yet a high difficulty level left many warming more to the prequel. A fine piece of Namcot programming though for the harder core. Also known as ‘Samurai Ghost 2.’
PC Engine HU Card

Sequel in the no hold barred hit series. Improved game modes include the ‘Excite’ and ‘World Champion’ Series as well as the sixteen player ‘Super Tournament’ and ‘Elimination Match’.
