A Bit Special
No one did over the top like SNK and it brings a tear to the eye to see these titles Neo Geo again: not that Genki had encountered Shock Troopers being so rare.  King of Fighters 94, Metal Slug X, Garou Mark of the Wolves, Samurai Spirits Zero, Aso II, Rising Hero, Top Hunter, Top Players Golf, Savage Reign and Shock Troopers make up the very accomplished roll of honour.
🏆Brilliant!
Brilliant Switch
A Bit Special
Ten of the dream team of SNK gaming that set pulses racing in their day, yet still bring a type of gaming not easily found these days to the modern arena. King of Fighters 95, Metal Slug 4, Samurai Spirits, Fatal Fury 2, Shock Troopers 2, Ghost Pilots, Baseball Stars, Mutation Nation, Big Tournament Golf, and Stakes Winner looking very fine and glad you’re mine.
Switch
Shoot Em Up
Two game package in Choaniki and Ai Choaniki of PC Engine fame making the transition to the Switch. To those who have yet to encounter it, Choaniki is a very wacky shooter from Japan. Expect the unexpected in a Kikikaikai style. Never a dull moment in this blaster with a cult following. Ai Choaniki roughly translates as ‘Love Super Big Brother’, this is the closest you get to the Village People on a console. Highly imaginative characters and bosses to the point where you’ll wonder if shiitake are the only mushrooms the creators have been having in their miso soup. Playable as Adon or Samson.

Switch
Shooter
Super Contra is rightly cherished by many gamers of a Nintendo persuasion, so to see Contra back and looking so good whilst remaining true to the run and gun, grenade pin in mouth gameplay of the original brings a tear to the eye. Not that there is any allowance for blurry vision or nostalgia – reflexes need to be as sharp as ever to progress.
Gamecube
Platform
Takes the Bongo controller on a new level by using it to control the platform action. Tap left and right to move the direction, both togther to jump and clap to perform actions. Levels are set against the clock but a minimum number of bananas need to be collected to progress to the next stage. Add to that lush jungle graphics, a score bonus for good use of chimp gymnastics throughout the level plus some frantic tub thumping when delivering blows to the bosses and you have a real storming title.
🏆Brilliant!
Brilliant Mega Drive
Platform
Action varies from New York to surfing on the back of dolphins with the green haired heroine able to use an exploding boomerang to repels attacks. Bizarre bosses ranging from a tank to a jelly monster hidden away in a cave. A cult classic well recommended to fans of the Valis series.
Super Famicom
RPG
Well-respected Super Famicom title that has stood the test of time due to its massive slant on action in the RPG dungeon arena. Players control an orb and use it to fire at the hordes hidden in the dank depths or to break through the ice blocks to progress. Excellent boss battles ensue – ones to savour for those that don’t mind taking down the big fish, or dragon or two. Known as Firestriker in the West.
Switch
Shoot Em Up
Gunforce, Geo Storm and Air Duel are the trio that launch the second instalment of Irem Collection with all guns blazing. Gunforce is a take on the mighty Contra licence, but this time with mech style power suits and massive adversaries to test the architecture to the limits. Tough like Konami’s opus with one hit kills, yet some supreme weaponry soon gets players in the necessary gung-ho spirits. A few tactically placed vehicles also help – its always a joy to tear through enemy lines in motorised, marauding machine. The two-player mode also lifts moral with a bit of teamwork. The coin-op sequel feels like it inspired Metal Slug with its further use of vehicles and some sublime parallax scrolling to boot. Arcade Air Duel looks initially like a 1942 vertical scrolling tribute, before the developer reveals their license to go off the rails with imaginative adversaries.

PS4
Shoot Em Up
Battle Garegga, Feveron, Kingdom Granprix plus Ketsui with the M2 gadget feature gives even the most grizzled shoot em up veterans plenty to get their teeth into, providing they remove the grenade pin in there already. The PS4 seems to have taken on the Xbox 360s mantle of master of shooters.

One on One Beat Em Up
A veritable dojo of martial artists and super heroes with the full roster being made of: X-Men, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, Marvel vs Capcom 2 and The Punisher. Only The Punisher hasn’t featured on Genki in previous format releases being a coin-op, but the Final Fight format will feel very much at home to Capcom connoisseurs and cognoscenti.

Platform title based in feudal Japan with luscious period setting graphics setting the moody tone nicely for supernatural adversaries that draw on Japanese folklore and mythology. Armed with a trusty spear Imoto is charged with rescuing Shizuka with some kind assistance from the deities in the form of power ups. Full Japanese title ‘Kousoushinrai Densetsu Musha.’
PS2

Whilst it definitely dances to its own strategy system, those adventurous grey importers will find plenty to celebrate here with its dramatic story and colourful characters.

Super Famicom
Shoot Em Up
Very desirable and highly colourful, saccharine sweet vertical scroller from the ripe old vintage year of 1993. Nice to be reminded of the sunny side of gaming with the release of so many gangster games.
ゼロファイア
Soundtracks
Soundtrack
Forty-three tracks for adrenalin junkies from Zero Gunner and Zero Gunner 2. Zero Gunner 2 is a particularly cherished title for the Dreamcast these days.
Switch
Shoot Em Up
Raiden has always had a Top Gun battalion of dedicated followers and the love is reciprocated to its core crew by Moss in this fest for the retinas to try and absorb.  The multi-directional scrolling adds an extra element for gamers to get to grips with, as if they didn’t have enough on their plate with the projectile hell. Yet there are plenty of nods to the series rich heritage, including the ships. So let the upbeat tunes keep your adrenalin pumping and trigger finger firing.

Sega Saturn
Shooter
Subtitled Music is the Weapon. Aerosmith offer encouragement to players in the form of their on screen, FMV persona and also in terms of their back catalogue which gets a good airing. Players control the on screen cursor and must take down the bad guys often using a flying CD as ammo. Lots of digitisation and no doubt air guitars, if given a brief respite during this nineties coin-op shooter.
PS2
Simulation
Plenty of gents with high cheek bones to chat to in this dating simulation. A great language tool as the written and spoken language appear in sync.
Sega Hardware
Controller
Compatible with the likes of Wing Arms, Soviet Strike, Black Fire… The Mission Stick brings the flight of fancy to such airbourne titles and really adds the extra dimension to the gameplay. If you thought Desert Strike got a bit hairy with a joypad, try using the Mission Stick to finish Soviet Strike. Sega once more shows its supreme love of its fan base in making this stick switchable between left and right sides. Bravo! Also has a turbo fire feature and thumb throttle.
Switch
Action
All-action soundtrack to keep players eyes wide open in order to thrive and not just survive the velocity fest as Sonic whizzes over twisted 3D roads. Yet Sega nods to the rich 2D heritage of its hero and the side section platform skill sections will raise the pulse of gamers of a certain vintage. Seamless presented as you would expect with fine cut-scenes.
