Super Famicom
Platform
The huge Sonic Mario Rivalry of the 90s had a cost on the many fronts the battle was fought. Busby was an attempt to gain a mascot for Accolade, no doubt the start of the bean counting men getting involved in programming. Despite his lack of charisma, Busby has enough abilities to endear himself to gamers as he speeds through the levels Sonic style grabbing balls of wool instead of rings. Sonic in wolfs clothing for the Super Famicom. Full Western title is Busby in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Platform
Clever side scrolling platform action where players must use their cunning in order to add to the screens in extra platforms, moving ramps and dissolving blocks to help the builderman get across the screen. Enjoyable and not too taxing, but still gives plenty of satisfaction when a plan comes together.
PS2
Puzzle
The buildings demolition business may be under represented in the console world but there remains a bed partner to Biru Baku in Bomber Hehhe on the Dreamcast. Gameplay involves using the limited amount of TNT efficiently enough to take down the building – a case of planning and placing dynamite in the right formation. Its possible to move back a couple of spots in order to correct poorly planned moves – that is before the big plunger gets pressed. Battle mode allows multi-player match ups with the first to take the building down winning the kudos. There is also a challenge mode which requires players to keep within the strict time limits, though using less moves or sticks of dynamite rewards the demolition expert with a few precious extra seconds for the next level. Part of the ‘Neo Trance Puzzle Game’ genre according to the cover.
PC Engine HU Card
Sports
King of the ring slug fest from the dark destroyer Cream, with the bonus of a side scrolling beat ’em up thrown in there for good measure like Legend of Success Joe on the Neo Geo in which you hunt down your father’s killers. Some cool and mean pugalists and trainers to choose from including Cutie Ann and the Yakuza look a like Mr. Ran. Training is also possible in the gym with medicine balls tossed at you to test your reflexes along with bag work.
Switch
Shoot Em Up
The Switch carries the mantle of the modern day refuge for shoot ’em ups with this double pack of Bullet Soul (Dankon) and Bullet Soul Infinite Burst. Not wishing to dampen its many pyrotechnics, but Genki may be getting a little long in the tooth as the Normal mode seems more than ample evidence of its bullet hell. Yet for those made of stronger stuff there are also Burst and Caravan modes, which may well require a pad or joystick made of stronger stuff. Independent eye movement isn’t mentioned as a requirement on the box, yet would definitely be an advantage.
Famicom Cart
Action
This race game has a twist in the road in that the car can get some sky time to squash rival vehicles and make the Dukes of Hazard style jumps between different sections of the course. Known as Buggy Popper in Japan.
Mega CD
RPG
Fine Sega RPG with CD quality cut scenes helping to set the fantasy atmosphere along with an array of excellently designed characters that come to life from the story board. Levelling up is essential to see ogres heads roll.

Playstation
Sports
A racing game that stirs nostalgic memories amongst gamers of a certain vintage, such was its graphical attainment on the humble Playstation and more arcade style gameplay.
Sega Saturn
Action
Sonic Team once again underlines it’s prowess and originality when given a free hand. Saving trapped souls from burning buildings is the order of the day. Unfortunately coming too late in the day to save the Saturn…
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Lauded by many of gaming’s cognoscenti for it’s stance of one hit, one kill. Requires the patience and zen of a true samurai.
Playstation
Rhythm
Sick moves, though those of a younger persuasion may disagree. Players have to be in tune with the tracks to match the rhythm of the button presses required or the needle on the record will start scratching badly.
Famicom Cart
Puzzle
An enjoyable playing card based game in the Tetris/Puyo Puyo/Columns mould when instead of blocks or squishy balls, players must align the cards to make flushes of the same suit or, for example, Jack, Queen, King. Pleasant chip tunes and bunny girls to complete the Eighties Vega theme.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Simulation
Digital comic adventure requiring knowledge of Japanese writing or good luck to be able to progress. Lots of anime babes to converse with and good voice acting. One for the Japanese dating scholars?
XBOX 360
Shoot Em Up
Moss unleash quite a beast in this version of bullet hell that seems to be connected direct to hell with its dark overtones and gothic splendour. Certainly not lacking in imagination as bosses utilise their full 3D capabilities to put the willies up players ships having to share the same screen space that feels positively claustrophobic during such encounters. Splendid character design and a heart beat in sync with Akiba culture chic. A real otakus dream realised in glorious gothic graphics.
Super Famicom
Sports
Classic Atari fun in the Californian sun with summer sports to savour and impress the judges with your prowess for riding the crest of a wave amongst other events.
Merchandise
Merchandise
A fine gift that came with those sharp enough to preorder the PS4 title. Includes an artbook tribute to its pasty chic along with DLC and CD with the games tunes. Known as Caligula Effect in the West.
Sega Saturn
Stimulation
Love simulation game from KID – experts in the field. Sizzling enough to warrant a Red Label adults only warning.
Sega Saturn
Stimulation
Love adventure with a wee bit extra that deems this title worthy of the yellow label warning. Interested parties should have good kanji ability or good luck if they hope to avoid offending Yuki, Ayako, Hikaru et al.

Subtitled ‘The Apprentice Angel.’ Heart warming love simulation set in a beautifully realised, anime style hospital world.

Beautifully illustrated in a more pencil drawn style to reflect the artist protagonist as he goes about his craft drawing an old friend who becomes a bit closer.
Switch
One on One Beat Em Up
A real fight fest for fans of the genre with both incarnations of Capcom vs SNK, Rival Schools, Fighting Jam, Street Fighter Zero 3, along with Star Gladiator plus double incarnations of Power Stone for a bit less-intense, more chuck away action. A real treat for those that appreciate Capcom’s eye for detail and spit and polish. Just hope you aren’t spitting teeth after a run in with some of these bad boys.

Sega Saturn
Shoot Em Up
Arcade classics 1942, 1943 and 1943 Kai on the one CD which is great to see as, aside from the 1941 Super Grafx conversion, until this release the home versions had been a tad disappointing. Thankfully Capcom’s back catalogue is well worth cashing in on.

Playstation
A Bit Special
Subtitled ‘The Start of History’, one might expect more familiar titles than Son Son, Higemaru, Exed Exes and Vulgus. Exed Exes is probably the pick of the four, but with Son Son containing NHK Monkey’s exploits it will always be the apple of Genki’s eye.

Nintendo Hardware
Controller
Designed to be used on one on one fighters such as a certain Capcom title whose name escapes me. The unusual ergonomic design looks a bit bizarre, but it works a treat fitting snugly and improving even Genki’s fight prowess and special move success rate.
