PC Engine CD ROM
Shoot Em Up
Very solid 2D shooter in the mould of Last Resort on the Neo-Geo. Has some very tasty cut scenes and a plot involving a brain in a box.
Super Famicom
Sports
Full of Kunio class right from the start as a knock of the ball causes one off the players to take one in the firecrackers. The players are always full of mischief with plenty of expression on their faces in the true Techno’s style of the series. Anime cut scenes crank up the tension in a school baseball based precursor to the hit Rookies series with solid slugging mechanics.

PC Engine Super CD ROM
Sports
Pretty difficult to track down as the games star and biker gang look-a-like Kunio Kun has a strong following. Various track & field events spiced up by the ability to throw punches, bottles and even bowling balls during your rivals attempts.

Nintendo DS
A Bit Special
Subtitled ‘How old is your brain?’, this whipped up a real storm in Japan. Simple tests utilising science that are fun to take part in, just not as much fun to get the results in Genki’s case.
GameBoy Original
Puzzle
Viruses must be wiped out by aligning them with the correctly colour coded vitamin pill. Simple premise but it soon generates sweaty palm syndrome and prickly heat that even the good Doctor Mario would have trouble curing.
GameBoy Advance
Puzzle
Bumper pack for puzzle devotees with the Famicom classic Dr. Mario making a welcomed comeback. Viruses must be wiped out by aligning them with the correctly colour coded vitamin pill. Simple premise but it soon generates sweaty palm syndrome and prickly heat that even the good Doctor Mario would have trouble curing. Panel de Pon is from the crafters of Advance Wars and is also known as Puzzle League. In a similar vein, lines must be matched up but blocks can only be shifted horizontally. There are additional modes of play making this a deviously delightful package for the puzzle minded player. Just take Dr Mario’s advice and stop playing when you start seeing viruses and vitamins that aren’t there.
PS2
Action
Spiritual sequel to Panzer Dragoon as the dragon soars through the skies, twisting to avoid other beasts to blast a fireball at the hordes below before dismounting to fight them with swishing sword in hand. Positively glistening in Square Enix polish as much as the sunny skies. Known in the West as Drakengard 2.
Famicom Cart
Platform
Happy days as the young dragon hunter delves deep into underground caverns to seek out dragons. Sadly this game is from an era when dragons couldn’t be tamed and as such some sharp steel must be used to prod them into line. Namco really hits its straps in such titles and delivers a fine gaming experience with aplomb.
Famicom Cart
Action
Popular sequel as players bravely explore the cavernous levels that hide dinosaurs besides the obvious dragon or two. Fast pace and looking very prim and pretty on the Famicom. Simple gaming pleasures as Namco has a flair for.
Gamecube
Action
Gameplay has two sections: on-rails, Star Fox style and free roaming shooting. Gameplay takes place on the back of a dragon a la Panzer Dragoon. The anime based story revolves around being transported into an alternate reality where battles on the backs of Dragons are commonplace. Developed by Treasure.
Sega Saturn
RPG
Fantasy RPG with heavy influence on battles between warring fractions. Sega style anime graphics and multiple storylines.
PC Engine FX
Simulation
A fine RPG in its own right with lush gaming world realised in great detail and all important characters of intrest so that players feel a conncetion to them. The certificate comes from the saucy cut scenes with steamy voice acting, but this game stands tall on its own.
Playstation
RPG
Very expressive avatars and plenty of musical clues as to their character: be they likely to fight you, steal from you or charge you too much in a restaurant. The combat and isometric world show just how much effort has gone into this journey of adventure.
Famicom Cart
RPG
RPG action screens to grab a quick item before heading to the platform sections and boss showdowns. All set to that toe-tapping DragonBall theme tune. Known in Japan as Dragonball Shenron no Nazo.
Famicom Cart
RPG
A quest it is and not for the faint hearted with plenty to pull on the heart-strings. But well worthy of preserving for the gaming vault of its top triumphs.
Super Famicom
RPG
Conversion of the Famicom trail blazer, but most definitely honed to fit the Super Famicom’s souped up hardware with that distinctive look to the sprite based action. A real jewel in the crown of the series with extreme attention to detail and rarer than the later, format exclusive releases.
Figures
Figure
Pop out 3D figure from Dragon Quest in this Derumurin Island version tribute to Dai no Bouken. The effect works very well to bring it to life.

Super Famicom
RPG
Plenty of nostalgia for those who appreciate their DQ series. And it looks splendidly resplendent in its Super Famicom spruce up with such sparkling graphics you almost expect glare from the stately gems decorating the palaces. A quest it is and not for the faint hearted with plenty to pull on the heart-strings. But well worthy of preserving for the gaming vault of its top triumphs.

RPG
Dragon Quest requires face-to-face encounters with spooky looking tree monsters and mean looking moles alongside chewing the cud with the local shopkeepers to glean essential info. The text is written in hiragana to give language learners plenty of chances to sample conversational Japanese, albeit in a video game. Also a tidy addition for the collectors with luscious box art. Known as Dragon Warrior IV.
Nintendo DS
RPG
Square Enix have done a spiffing job of converting this epic quest to the DS with delightful pastel shading adding to the charm of what was already a triple-A opus. Genki is grateful for the furigana to help read the text.
🏆Brilliant!
