Playstation
Simulation
A fine adventure as players juggle school life with the age-old dilemma of battling mecha. The city exploration is done in tidy 3D with the back streets looking fine.
Nintendo DS
Action
The name of the title comes from the creator of the GameBoy and Wonderswan Gunpei Yokoi, but there is little here to compare with the Wonderswan incarnation as Bandai gives the DS version a really vibrant, super fly-fresh overhaul and deeply dippy dub club soundtrack.. As with all good puzzlers the premise is simple: link up the lines. And the DS stylus fits the bill perfectly. Known in Japan as Oto o Tsunagou Gunpey Reverse.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Mahjong, Shogi and card game all played in the relaxing surrounds of a hot spring. What more could you ask for? The Japanese title of this game is ‘Atsumare! Guru Guru Onsen.’

Dreamcast
Simulation
Mahjong, Shogi and card games all played in the relaxing surrounds of a hot spring in this third instalment of the popular series. What more could you ask for? The Japanese title of this game is ‘Guru Guru Onsen 3.’
Nintendo DS
A Bit Special
The stunning solicitor series created by Capcom as players must go all out for the conviction. Credit to the Japanese game market which still pulls out its own genres every now and then. I mean few companies would be bold enough to test out such a title. Known in the West as Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney.
Nintendo Hardware
Accessory
Very smart, officially licensed sticker to convert a 3DSLL into a Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney themed handheld. Discrete design with Japanese phrases from the game melded into the print.
Famicom Cart
Shooter
Vertically scrolling helicopter shooter with the heli sounding a little kaput as it takes down enemy bases and tanks, planes ships: pretty much an entire battalion.
Playstation
Sports
A great conversion of the original manga source into game format drawing heavily on the boxing themed source material which adds much to the overall package. Hard training (and plenty of raw eggs) are a requisite to train up the young pugilist in this man management game.
PS2
Sports
A great conversion of the original manga source into game format drawing heavily on the boxing themed source material which adds much to the overall package. But its the boxing where this title stands or falls and the controls have been superbly done – not so easy to pick up, but mastering them gives a real sense of achievement.
Wii
A Bit Special
Nine various games to ground you in the skills required to play the console to its full potential. Nintendo takes you by the hand through a Duck Shoot style blast, a round of ping pong, a rack of pool – mimicking the cue action, a race with a herd of cows, a spot of fishing and a game of air hockey amongst others. All good, clean fun and an excellent starter title.

A Bit Special
Also known as Wii Play, the bundle features nine various games to ground you in the skills required to play the console to its full potential. Nintendo takes you by the hand through a Duck Shoot style blast, a round of ping pong, a rack of pool – mimicking the cue action, a race with a herd of cows, a spot of fishing and a game of air hockey amongst others. All good, clean fun and an excellent starter title.
PS2
Simulation
Translating as the Earl and the Fairy, this romantic escape is set in Victorian England with the Earl and the Fairy meeting up. The Fairy is actually human and so named for her knowledge of fairies.
PSP
Simulation
Lady aimed romance game full of bishonen boys who look like they spend a good proportion of their day behind a mirror (and definitely moisturise more than Genki.) Japanese full title: 24 ji no Kane to Cinderella Halloween Wedding.
Merchandise

GameBoy Advance

Included are a quiz on the likes of the correct way to hold a hamster, whether its alright to give them chocolate and their various likes and dislikes. Also in the package are a host of hamster themed mini games.
Super Famicom
One on One Beat Em Up
Very tasty one on one fighter based in ancient Japan on a manga that looks like a Samurai version of Fist of the North Star. Keiji is well portrayed as the confident warrior from the manga series with a roster of well-designed characters such as the loyal samurai and the attractive, devote female Christian missionary. The backgrounds look straight off the set of Shogun.
Famicom Cart
Platform
A solid Famicom platformer made more challenging (to say the least!) By being played as two characters simultaneously. Jumps must be timed to perfection and the male brain at least may suffer a bit of melt down trying to keep an eye on both our gaming heroes as they journey through Tokyo.
Playstation
Simulation
Quite an underpopulated genre in the firework display genre. Players wander the fantasy castle setting their favourite fireworks in the correct locales and then detonating them in order in time to the orchestral score. Subtitled Fantast.
Sega Saturn
Puzzle
All the lavishly extravagant characters that make up Hanagumi in Sakura Wars spice up the well loved Columns formula. Really comes into its own in two player. Its lasting popularity ensured a sequel on the Dreamcast.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
The full title translates as “The schools spooky rumoured Hanako has appeared!” The action takes the form of slickly animated cartoon sequences in a simplistic style such as with Maruko chan. The colouring is dark and atmospheric with Hanako just a quick phone call away from giving help. But beware of wrong numbers summoning the spookier ghosts.
GameBoy Color
Rhythm
Anime themed take on the Beatmania series where players must hit the right button in time to the right notes to help clear the screen.
Merchandise
Guide Book
Seeing all those Game & Watches makes Genki weak at the knees. Yet many other devices are also beautifully illustrated including the PC Engine GT, Game Gear, GameBoy, Virtual Boy, Game Pocket Computer, Atari Lynx… A very complete guide and clear labour of love.
Nintendo Hardware
Controller
Lavishly retro with Hori’s high production values, this fine controller lists the following games on the Famicom it was compatible with at the time of production: After Burner, Knight Rider, Space Harrier, Pole to Finish, Sky Destroyer, Highway Star, but others will also work. On the Mega Drive its known list is: Super ThunderBlade, Space Harrier II and Super Hang-On. Boasts an autofire feature.
Super Famicom
RPG
Square unleashed in a fun filled Japanese cultural style RPG from the golden age of the Super Famicom RPG’s. Plenty of wacky characters of ‘Goemon’ proportions and self references to other Square franchises as the lighter side to Final Fantasy’s creators comes to the fore.
Famicom Cart
RPG
Pixel perfect Square graphics as it matches its own sprawling epic Final Fantasy with immense graphical attention to detail and imaginative boss battles plus plenty of side quests against wonderfully realised monsters. Sheer clash.
PS2
Simulation
Refreshing visual pizzazz to this classy production with cel shaded armies contrasted against the pre-rendered beauty of the main protagonists and some swirling stunning pastel backdrops. A bizarre array of characters pop up throughout the game keeping the players interest – none cooler than the chicken carrying his wounded comrade in a wheelbarrow. And some characters literally pop out with monsters being hatched from eggs to join in the mass battles. With a musical score from Uematsu san, Square fans will be in their element. Subtitled The Seven Hanjuku Heroes.
Famicom Disk System
Platform
Delightfully old school platform shooting as Square begins on its quest to become one of the finest developers in the world. Humble roots can be found here, but the attention to detail shines as beautifully as the sunshine level. Also known as Hao Kun no Fushigina Tabi and known in the West as Mystery Quest.
Dreamcast
Simulation
From the popular PC version came the Dreamcast pet breeding game in which players chat to the femme fatales in various locales such as the school and neighbourhood. Complete with spine and registration cards.
