GameBoy Original
Sports
Very popular and classy basketball based anime series which captures the raw emotion of the game and gives the GameBoy a good work out with very slickly animated characters from the much-cherished anime series.
GameBoy Original
Puzzle
Matching up the blocks of the jumbled up pictures with the superb styling of ninja family Nintama. The characterisation adds much to the melee and plenty of colour to the black and white proceedings.
GameBoy Original
Simulation
Explore the peaceful town and build up a repertoire of rapid monsters to race against each other.
Nintendo 64
Simulation
Hanafuda is a Japanese card game translating as flower cards due to the illustrations. The game is set on what looks like the main shopping street and there are some nicely animated cut scenes, especially considering its cart-based source. The title translates as Angel’s Promise.
Nintendo 64
Sports
Nice tennis game with a N64 feel to the graphics as players slug it out complete with plenty of adverts for Hudson and Mizuno, plus some nice umpire speech and replays. Known as Centre Court Tennis in the West.
Dreamcast
Simulation
A bumper Love Hina package from back in the Dreamcast heyday coming with lushly animated isometric adventure complete with roulette system for tricky to make decisions. It also included a beautiful mailing system to send emails via the Dreamcast to friends. It is hard to convey the sheer size of this limited edition and might go a way to explaining, whilst Sega fans could feel their love of the Dreamcast being reciprocated by Sega, somewhat why it was a commercial struggle with such huge boxes and generous gifts.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Known as Batter Up in the West, but in Genki’s humble opinion looks far better with the Homepride Flour, Fred style Japanese graphics. Bases loaded and this representation of the sport covers all bases.
Famicom Cart
Sports
Overhead Formula One racer that uses the Namcot flair for cartoony graphics to add plenty of colour and the all important emotion to the package. The attention to detail makes this feel far much more fun than the sum of the parts may suggest.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
An interactive novel that had a huge budget to cover the multiple scenarios and was really at the cutting edge of the coal face with such innovative approaches to gaming. A real polished diamond with a vast cast and a cult following. Machi is also known as The Town.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Koei once again raises the torch to burn the sky to the blood red colour of grand battles in the series sometimes known as Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer as the wisdom of the Five Rings is put to the historical battle test. Koei has made it’s war chest trading historical battle games based on ancient Chinese history. The nation has been divided into three kingdoms. You must unite the country or be destroyed by the prevailing anarchy.

Gamecube
Platform
The popular Crash series runs and runs right onto the GameCube and its not too common a title in Japan coming later in the series which was already a well established Playstation fixture. As such the programmers show a fine grasp of the GameCube architecture with impressive reflections and draw distances in the biplane sections. But Crash has always been about pure fun and this forth installment doesn’t disappoint.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Gentle, department store lift music tinkles along as players visit the local patissier and interact with the fellow customers and waitresses with impossibly high pitched, anime style voices.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Luscious anime adventure mixing love and war. Ogami return’s from the Imperial Navy to lead Hanagumi and their steam powered contraptions. (Very) Big in Japan.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Sepia tinged graphics and soothing music as players interact with the ladies of the town through its various locales including main shopping street and Japanese temple. Quite a desired title in Japan.
Dreamcast
RPG
A bit of the old Miyazaki magic feel to this RPG as players savour the isometric perspective adding an extra element of detail to the gaming world. A nice, innocent feel to the medieval action and a popular series updated.
Dreamcast
Simulation
A bumper Love Hina package from back in the Dreamcast heyday coming with lushly animated isometric adventure complete with roulette system for tricky to make decisions. It also included a beautiful mailing system to send emails via the Dreamcast to friends.
Mega Drive
Sports
Arcade style play mechanics with Japanese domestic teams, cat like keepers and prima donna strikers. Simple to pick up and play, but very enjoyable as a result.
Mega Drive
Sports
Electronic Arts took the realistic approach to its sporting roster and soon became king of the genres. The golfers here are no exception: fluidly animated with a very user friendly interface for playing shots with crisp graphics and realistic ball physics. Hats off to the king of the ring.
Mega Drive
Sports
Joe Montana was quite a player and few will have missed his charming Mega Drive title which was as popular as Genesis back in the 90s. Simple interface and good action with fun two player bouts make this the football game to recommend to fans of any shape of ball.
XBOX 360
Action
With production values of a high budget Hollywood and no doubt a cast of voice actors to match, Biohazard 6 sees it all kick off again with nerves of steel and plenty of bullets a requisite to not ending up zombie fodder. Genki feels a nervous twitch returning as the hordes of undead begin to mass and a real sense of dread when the bosses begin to surface.
