Dreamcast
Simulation
Gentle, department store lift music tinkles along as players visit the local patissier and interact with the fellow customers and waitresses with impossibly high pitched, anime style voices.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Luscious anime adventure mixing love and war. Ogami return’s from the Imperial Navy to lead Hanagumi and their steam powered contraptions. (Very) Big in Japan.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Sepia tinged graphics and soothing music as players interact with the ladies of the town through its various locales including main shopping street and Japanese temple. Quite a desired title in Japan.
Dreamcast
RPG
A bit of the old Miyazaki magic feel to this RPG as players savour the isometric perspective adding an extra element of detail to the gaming world. A nice, innocent feel to the medieval action and a popular series updated.
Dreamcast
Simulation
A bumper Love Hina package from back in the Dreamcast heyday coming with lushly animated isometric adventure complete with roulette system for tricky to make decisions. It also included a beautiful mailing system to send emails via the Dreamcast to friends.
Mega Drive
Sports
Arcade style play mechanics with Japanese domestic teams, cat like keepers and prima donna strikers. Simple to pick up and play, but very enjoyable as a result.
Mega Drive
Sports
Joe Montana was quite a player and few will have missed his charming Mega Drive title which was as popular as Genesis back in the 90s. Simple interface and good action with fun two player bouts make this the football game to recommend to fans of any shape of ball.
XBOX 360
Action
With production values of a high budget Hollywood and no doubt a cast of voice actors to match, Biohazard 6 sees it all kick off again with nerves of steel and plenty of bullets a requisite to not ending up zombie fodder. Genki feels a nervous twitch returning as the hordes of undead begin to mass and a real sense of dread when the bosses begin to surface.
Mega Drive
Sports
A very ambitious project with the original being entirely polygon based on a platform requiring programmer imagination to squeeze good 3D out of the hardware. Plenty of nostalgia for fans of the series and Atari with rogue developer Tengen on programming duties.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
High school dating game where attending the right class is essential to woo your heart throb. Lovingly created, candy sweet graphics.
Famicom Cart
Action
Tactical positioning of battlements a must in order to repel enemy invasions and keep in charge of the battle. The best compliment Genki could pay is to say Rampart produces a feel of a full scale battle without ever feeling too simy due to its fine interface. Some great military beats too.
Nintendo 64
Platform
Beautiful 3D platform game with Kirby coming into his own and very much the star of the show wielding flaming swords, tossing bombs into enemy territory and even turning into a rather mean looking rock clad Kirby. A classic series given a fitting tribute on the 64 with some stunning touches such as the flame effects and gorgeous backgrounds.
Nintendo 64
One on One Beat Em Up
Plenty of all-star combatants from the Nintendo range, taking each other on in innovative arenas with plenty of little touches, such as dust clouds on impact, that relay that Nintendo magic. Yet beneath the pretty candy coloured characters lies a pretty brutal fight engine.
XBOX
Simulation
Koei really made its name with such battle simulations as this: taking charge of fearless Nobunaga’s men to wage war against those who fail to fall under the control of the mighty warrior.
PS2
Action
A beautiful and colourful action adventure with so much polish from Sony as our hero has his own creature friend to help him on his quest involving simple tasks that prove thoroughly rewarding. The effort Sony has placed into this triple-A title is clear as the bright, blue skies and it clearly placed a lot on it during the early PS2 console wars.
PS2
RPG
Not the most famed PS2 title, but it is well-worth a trip back in time to play as the game itself involves slipping through time to an old school Germany and trying to solve the mysterious quest. Konami always bring plenty of polish and this cult cracker is very unpredictable.
PS2
Platform
The hardware is capable of keeping up with Sonic’s speed and the game works as well in the third dimension as it does in 2D back on the Mega Drive. Fine blend of speed and action, masterfully mixed by the Sonic Team.
PS2
Action
Superb old school British accents as the player is tasked with escaping the prisoner of war camp in WWII in this well made game of stealth and cunning with plenty of tension to avoid detection.
PS2
Sports
A real trailer trash feel to the back garden fight action that sees wrestlers utilise any of the detritus lying around to smash against an opponent, all whilst the guy happily barbecues away obliviously. Varied fight arenas including a dimly lit bar with nervous looking fish int he aquarium. Quite a cult following to this rough and ready fight fest.
PS2
RPG
Incredible art in the avatar and game characters that give this an unearthly, sci-fi feel. The combat system is honed and a delight with some hybrid critter like creatures for your brave band to take down, leg by leg.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Subtitled The Craig Stadler Challenge and hosted by the good man himself, looking good in digitised form and dubbed in Japanese. The golfers look fine too also in digitised form with fine presentation to introduce each hole.
