A wonderous add on to the Mega Drive Mini in this Mega Adaptor which allowed owners of the proper, full release version (rather than this toy one) to play Master System (Mark 3) games on their Mega Drive. As such, it comes with eleven dummy Mark III carts and also a Sega My Card. But alas, this is just for fun.

Konami’s cult Mirumo world looking mighty fine on the Playstation with four adventure quests to savour full of brightly drawn fairies, luscious green backdrops and plinky plonky chip tunes matched and blended perfectly to the in quest action.

Sports
Hugging the tight corners of the Monaco course with its lavish apartments right on the roadside really recreates the rev head feel of the Formula One sport. Not that Genki has been a F1 driver yet… Seventeen courses to keep a budding Hamilton busy and eleven teams for Alonso to move between with plenty of modes including classic car, sim mode with tyre changes and refuelling plus a fast paced arcade mode which should keep drivers plenty to savour.

Fantasy three – quarter perspective RPG set in a European country with plenty of wizards, witches, black magic and sorcery.

Capcoms polish is more than evident as this epic samurai slasher captures gamers hearts and minds. Beautifully set in a Feudal Japan with plenty of adversaries straight from Japanese mythology. Thankfully the slash of steel can bring down even the biggest and baddest of boss monoliths.

Sports
Update of the seminal Dreamcast series that combined arcade mechanics with deeper techniques to produce a well rounded game of tennis that was an absolute joy to play. The raw power of the PS3 does the arcade smash justice with some amazing rallies possible due to the well rounded mechanics. Genki just wishes Ms. Anna Kournikova was still on the circuit…

Sega reincarnates the seminal Minotaur man beast platformer which woo-ed the proud owners of the giant sprite action title in the early nineties. And its evolved into a beat to be very proud of with action based 3D gameplay worthy of the nostalgia. Players take the role of a man exposed to genomes that cause mutations. Behind all the bizarre transformations lies a mystery government experiment bringing a Biohazard-like conspiracy theory to the games undercurrent. The mutation element is well utilised with players able to capture new abilities to tear into the poor human adversaries and other beasts. And the over 18 rating is well warranted as liberated limbs and high pressured arteries make for an on screen blood bath. There is plenty to keep the completist busy too with twenty five beats to unlock in Gallery mode.

Conversion of the much heralded Seibu Kaihatsu coin-op that never relied on cheap tricks or gimmicks, just simple play mechanics, hardcore level structures, a riffing soundtrack and good old fashioned high scores awarded for collecting medals. The weapons can be powered up but there are only two to select along with two supplementary bomb attacks. Pure arcade shooting action.

Quite experimental work coming from Sega, but we can’t expect perfection everytime. Certainly has it’s moments to recommend it to RPG fans. The appearance of Crow man ‘Kuroyasha’ being one of Genki’s favourite.

Sailor Moon girls get it on in various locales from temples to ice castles with all the super girl power and sparkling characters. A fine fight engine under all the glamour.

Simulation
The first instalment of the epic Sakura Taisen marched onto the Dreamcast demanding attention of all with its very slick 3D battle scenes. This exquisite special pack comes with a Dreamcast VMU in a very tidy wooden finish showing the attention to detail Sega gave to its beloved Dreamcast.
NEO GEO CD
One on One Beat Em Up
A patriotic American wrestler called Eagle, an overweight policeman called Gordon and a gymnast called Carol who tosses medicine balls at you from out of her hair – it could only be Savage Reign. Interactive backgrounds including a go kart that’ll knock you down if you lurk in the rear too long. The Genki fave has to be the Chinese Chun Li tribute stage, though we doubt Capcom enjoyed it as much.

Sega Rally really captured the reason why fans spend their Sunday mornings avoiding careering vehicles in off-the-beaten-track forests: power sliding round hairpin bends with wheels spinning to kick out on the home straight. Sublime.
PS2
Action
A dream marriage of Capcom’s action credentials and the warring period of Japan. Full of brash colours and a fabulous array of weaponry.
Game Gear
RPG
Graphically squeezes the Game Gear for all its got and the results are pretty amazing. Its easy to see why many miss the innocence of sprite based RPG worlds looking at this. Imaginative, engrossing, enthralling, engaging: enjoy.

Not so sure on the art of vengeance, but the art of this game is truly gorgeous: like a tour of Japan itself with high, snowy peaks, speed lined neon backdrops, bamboo forests – not that the old school platform hack, slash, bounce from wall to wall avoiding the rotating chainsaw blade gameplay gives any respite for sight seeing. Truly 2D at its roots and its a triumphant game thanks to the skill of Sega’s select ninja few programming crew.

The joy of ending the debate: who would win between Falcon from F-Zero and Ness from Mother? Yet beneath the pretty candy-coloured characters lies a pretty brutal fight engine.

Take control of Monkey with his extendable staff and do battle all manner of evil monsters on your quest to find the holy Buddhist scriptures. Bail out Pigsy and Sandy for womanising countless times too. Genki recommended.

Rumoured to have been held back from Saturn release (hence the funky 3D model in the Saturn’s Sonic Jam play area), the graphics really have that gee whiz factor showing beyond doubt the hardware’s strengths running rings round the Saturn despite the valiant efforts of Sonic R and Sonic 3D taking the series into a different stratosphere.

Gyrate to the beat with the sexy Space Channel reporter Ulala. Just don’t ask about the story! Unique feel to graphics, full of futuristic frolics. A Dreamcast must have.

A more compact quest than the open gaming world featured in the initial instalment with players savouring the action through different time lines that cross each other adding to the replay potential. Painstakingly beautiful gaming world that is full of vibrancy thanks to the 2D graphics. Executed with that distinctive Square class that the developer exudes.

One on One Beat Em Up
Martial arts mayhem as Capcom’s colossus receives a bit of fine tuning to make this a well balanced, bruising encounter. Joypad dexterity and zen – like patience a must.

Happiness has nothing to do with a well known tobacco product. Happiness is Bomberman. Well at least it is when taking down ones nearest and dearest with a well place bomb punted across into their arena. Beautifully honed and with gameplay dripping from its silicon chips like mayonnaise on the potato variety in Holland.

Mario’s penchant for red and white mushrooms and hiding down pipes continues unabated ageing like a good wine. Just don’t tell princess what he’s been up to.
