Miscellaneous Hardware
Console
Goodness gracious. A console that can play Famicom, Super Famicom, SNES (both PAL and NTSC), GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, Genesis, Mega Drive (Pal and NTSC, though Mark III would require a Mega Adaptor), PC Engine, Turbo Grafx and PC Engine Super Grafx games. That’s over nine thousand compatible games. The controller adapter allows keen gamers to use the original pads on the machine for that authentic feel. Games can be downloaded onto the machine with a Micro SD Card and then they can be taken around a friends house. Upscaling makes many never looking so fine. Also allows patches to be applied to games.
PC Engine HU Card
RPG
Science fiction futuristic take on the RPG, think of Ys in space with not a fair maiden in sight. Lasers should be set to kill with all the battles which help to gain the vital experience points, but with expansive levels as grand as space itself, interesting sub plots and great combat mechanics this is a fine PC Engine RPG.
Super Famicom
RPG
Mecha based RPG makes a refreshing graphical revamp from the more traditional staple. Turn based combat against some mean machines with fine effects for the attacks on opponents.
GameBoy Color
Shooter
Colourful gun and run as the player must jump platform style obstacles whilst keeping the crosshair with enemies firmly in the sights. Subtitled White Woods.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Jaw dropper in the pre-Saturn release media presentations. Kenji Endo’s opus is full of turns and twists and strange events. Don’t play before bed!
Playstation
RPG
Kenji Eno’s opus caused a real stir in the gaming world at the time of its release. This game involves choosing various options such as to open a drawer or door to try and get to the bottom of why Laura’s father has murdered a patient in the hospital he works. Unnerving action at times as the gaming world warps like a psychotic episode.
Dreamcast
RPG
The original D represented a key period in gaming history before the 3DO went critical, without which would we have had Silent Hill or Biohazard? Kenji Eno san delves into the dreaded “Interactive Movie” genre but the results are no early CD rom dirge. Disturbed and depraved survival horror from the Canadian outlands.
Famicom Disk System
Action
A superb Nihon centric title as our hero (looking like a Shaolin priest) launches a series of slight of foot attacks: leaping ninja like between tile like platforms and dispatching fireballs in the direction of silent assassin adversaries. Plenty of hidden power ups to give a welcome boost to the quest that has a mystic, Buddhist feel to proceedings. Certainly the giant statue head has a oriental look: but dont admire for too long as its tongue comes out and it jumps around the screen. Known by its full title of Meiwaku Jiin Dababa.
Merchandise
Guide Book
Lists over ten thousand hints with a breakdown of the games release date and genre alongside a brief synopsis across some fine genres such as the N64, Super Famicom, Virtual Boy, PC Engine, Saturn, Mega Drive, Playstation and Neo Geo with thousands of titles listed. A real gamers bible in Japan.
Super Famicom
RPG
Capturing the essence of the golden 16Bit era of Super Famicom platformers with the shrunk down character sprites and expansive gaming world realised in intensive detail in the dark caves and vibrant towns. The effort put into production adds to the feel of a real gem twinking like one of the treasures in the cavernous underground labyrinths.
GameBoy Color
Simulation
Sequel to the popular Super Famicom version, this handheld update takes a card-based combat approach. Great characters in the Hudson mould. Subtitled The Miracle of The Zone.
PC Engine HU Card
Shoot Em Up
WWII themed shooter with solid play mechanics and plenty of tanks to blow up and battleships to sink. You can also call in the squadron to help out when in a fix. Originally a Hu Card release also given a CD Rom update. Conversion of this title known as Twin Hawk in the arcades was licensed from shoot ’em up fanatics Toaplan.
Sega Saturn
Puzzle
The Japanese title translates as ‘Big Tile Fort’, a puzzle game using the mahjong tiles.
Famicom Cart
Action
Side scrolling platform shooting levels that may have been the inspiration for Cybernator (or Assault Suits Valken) and look lush on the vintage architecture. Gameplay also includes strategic elements as players steer their ship to the next planet and arrange their fleet for the turn based combat.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Plethora of zany characters from the anime hero Dam Dam to a fish head on legs which have to jump on each others shadows to win the bout. A glimpse of the creativity Sony harnesses when its developers are given a free reign.

PSP
Action
Hugely successful series in its native Japan and this PSP update utilises everything that has made the game the success it is. The model based robots have never looked so luscious in their cel shaded glory and the ability to run around the main shopping street before popping into battle world keeps the gaming varied. Yet its the combat where this excels to levels to keep the most demanding otaku happy.
Playstation
Rhythm
Far better to practise in the comfort of your own home before unleashing your moves on the arcade groupies. Genki keeps the curtains firmly shut when grooving and gyrating, for now…
Dreamcast
Rhythm
Real bumper Dreamcast Edition featuring the tracks from the original plus the second mix. Its not all cheese though with some real foot tapping, toe twisting tracks.

Nintendo 64
Rhythm
Full to Disney colour and razzmatazz as all the old faves get down to some modern and classic tunes to Konami’s proven DDR formula. A nice, exclusive N64 mode to boot.
Playstation
Rhythm
Time to get deep and funky as those with rhydhm strut their stuff to the likes of M Flo, Tiger Yamato and The Bald Head in this foot tapping compilation of tidy J Beats.
Playstation
Rhythm
M-Flo, DJ FX, DJ Nagureo and The Bald Head amongst others give gamers a dance off worthy of the floors of the Shinjuku white rooms. Fine, foot tapping tunes and spine tingling beats.
Sony Hardware
Controller
Dance Summit features some real rip roaring tunes to groove to as you dress up as a Mexican wrestler or Disney style bird to mention but two of the extravagant costumes. The controller comes with a mini version of a PS2 controller (albeit with no dual sticks) and pads which attach to your palms allowing you to really get in the groove whilst cracking out some shapes. Part of the Bust A Move series.
Nintendo DS
Shoot Em Up
Old school shooter but done in the third dimension producing quite stunning results with crisp, colourful pixels on the small screen. Utilises the dual screen and touch function well with a useful radar, but its wireless two player with only one cart that really whisks up a hail of bullets frenzy. Quite rare of late.
Playstation
Sports
Few will forget the gameplay of Daredevil Derby 3D if they sampled it back in the day. Even today the results are impressive as the whole screen rotates to the players turns of their vehicle. And its not just cities that players will race through: most memorable is the cloud level which sees players fly through a path in the clouds as a giant airship avoiding the distractions of the seagulls. Known in the West as Supersonic Racers.
PS Vita
Shoot Em Up
Classic shooter Darius gets a Vita update to get those trigger fingers twitching more than a freshly dispatched robotic cat fish boss. The darkness of deep space contrasts beautifully against the ships pyrotechnics as blast after blast illuminates the screen well suited to horizontal shooters. And of course the multi route selection remains adding plenty of replay value to those who can stick at it like a limpet.
