PS2
Action
A beautiful and colourful action adventure with so much polish from Sony as our hero has his own creature friend to help him on his quest involving simple tasks that prove thoroughly rewarding. The effort Sony has placed into this triple-A title is clear as the bright, blue skies and it clearly placed a lot on it during the early PS2 console wars.
Nintendo 64
One on One Beat Em Up
Various super heroes looking like Dural crossed with the Power rangers enjoy the 3D arenas with Lethal Challenges possible as pugilists lock horns during battle. Its possible to bet on the outcome (not that Genki would condone such unprofessionalism) and some tasty combos add to the impressive package.
Super Famicom
RPG
Aurally this must be one of the most pleasing games on the system with some delightful cheery sunny day music, via the regal pomp of the palace to the stirring sequences that visually impress too in Mode 7. The story draws players in and this has aged like a fine claret to be one of the more desirable RPGs on a system renowned for some of the finest.
Playstation
Simulation
Minecraft before its time as RPG fans create their own dungeon based role playing game complete with shops and the obligatory monsters.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
RPG
Really kicks on from the Hu Card prequel utilising the CD format to add more cut-scene candy to replace the imagination required by its previous incarnation.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Be a winner in the game of life as players progress round the board dealing with the many dilemmas life may throw up. Initially players decide their appearance, gender and type of car in a nice nod to personalise the game to the players character. Known in Japanese as the DX Jinsei Game.
Dreamcast
Action
Full of Sega’s arcade prowess making it to the DC via the Model 2 arcade board with a few cosmetic enhancements. Multiple routes are possible but this is just like its Hollywood counterpart Die Hard in that action comes above all else.
Mega Drive
Shooter
On the rails shooter where the screen scrolls along as Duke shoots into it like in the Neo Geo classic Nam 75 and I suppose Operation Wolf. Masses of enemy attacks keep the action frantic and frenzied as your Uzi is in near danger of seizing up. A real blast from an arcade expert.
Playstation
Sports
The budget version of Dynamite Soccer 98 plays a quick fire, arcade style game with the ball pinging around in the midfield area. The sprightly mechanics make for a fine football engine with excitement generated from the quick fire action.
🏆Brilliant!
Brilliant Switch
Action
Always one of the most unlikeliest names for a video game hero, Earnest Evans Collection contains his a fore named game Earnest Evans from the Mega CD era, besides the seminal MD El Viento and the cult classic from the Mega CD Anett Futatabi. Telenet always had such devoted followers and these three titles demonstrate why.

PSP
Shooter
Run and gun has never been quite this much fun as D3 shows its youth wasn’t all mis-spent knocking out B-movie style budget games. Alien invaders swarm and the screen is over-run with them at times, but the hardware handles it superbly.
Super Famicom
Platform
Modern gaming definitely misses the humour of Shiney’s Earthworm: pure fun and full of creative genius. Nice to remind yourself what you may have been missing.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Like a Miyazaki anime, ecological disaster stalks this dating sim with a look of Sakura Wars and a feel of Tokimeki Memorial. The games characters are skilled in magical arts, as if the science of romance wasn’t tricky enough.
Mega Drive
Action
Guide Ecco back to the peace of the pod through turbulent seas with swordfish needing a quick sonar ray to be dispatched and octopuses getting a little too friendly with their tentacles. A fine haul to any Sega collector’s bag.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Town management simulation set during the Edo period with period setting characters sporting the tradition haircuts and a well realised isometric town in which to chat to the townsfolk and chase geisha.

Technos Japan and Data East finest are on board: Double Dragon, Kunio Kun, Mysterious Stones, Bogey Manor, Xain’d Sleen’a, Chelnov, Dark Seal, Edward Randy, Boogie Wings and Wolf Fang 2001. Famicom Cart
Puzzle
Unusual puzzle title in which players control a blue orb and must make as few moves as possible in order to free up the required items from the switches and hieroglyphic characters onscreen. Very cleverly executed with an air of mystique about it.
Playstation
Action
Containing some of the Final Fantasy VII characters ensured plenty of attention to Ehrgeiz’s 3D fighting action. Each pugilist has a different attribute special move: be it a traditional projectile, a wieldy weapon or transforming into an animal. Includes a quest mode where you enter the dungeons to fight through various rooms – getting well stocked at the village store is advisable before descending. There are also some mini games which act as a nice diversion from the beast pummelling action.
