Super Famicom
Simulation
A space fantasy theme with very tidy anime avatars and a stirring, militaristic soundtrack.
Famicom Cart
Platform
Genki has a penchant for ninjas and has no issues with kunoichi (or female ninjas) either. So its great to lap up the quick paced action in this fine example of a femme fatale action platformer. Full of Eastern mysticism and great gameplay to boot.
PS Vita
Action
The title translates as Ink Devil and the style is like Okami meets Sega Saturn Taromaru meets Kazekiri from the PC Engine. Thats if those latter two games had been drawn using a calligraphy brush. Beautiful screens as players call on traditional mythology to help them progress. The fear of being chased by the giant in stage three as just his shadow looms large in the background with Kyotos Daiji in the background is a fabulous experience up their with the thrill of collecting all the Satellite components in Goldeneye against the clock. Truly gorgeous.
PS2
RPG
Lavishly illustrated avatars full of emotion (especially where Genki is concerned as we seem to keep upsetting the ladies with our choice of retorts) and detailed backgrounds. All very appropriate for the exquisite isometric perspective gameworld that will see players battling from rogue sailors on a galleon what looked like washed up ghosts from Pacman on a beach.
PS2
RPG
Fine, frantic RPG with colourful as the avatar representatives with plenty of special moves in the combat to surprise even the most seasoned of RPG veterans.
Dreamcast
Simulation
Mech battle sim with dramatic orchestral score and plenty of zooming in and out to the action. Player avatars and a fine sci-fi plot (well in anime terms) complement the action superbly.

Super Famicom
Puzzle
Very pleasant puzzler of the Puyo Puyo ilk but slightly more cerebral with some splendid power ups and fun two player match ups.
Nintendo 64
Action
Fun title from Hudson with a series of mini games to use the B Daman’s prowess for projecting spheres from their mecha skeleton. Includes playing pool, hammer the mole arcade action, dinosaur hunting, a rally section and an all out battle with a bunch of rogue pandas. Very enjoyable, superb for a quick blast.

DVD
530 minutes actually soon flies by as Enterbrain does seem to do what its name would suggest its good at and get in the heads of players of these two fine, upstanding titles. Plenty of hot tips and every nook and cranny is explored with Melty Blood having a good haul being a doujin title.
Merchandise
DVD
330 minutes of insight into this mammoth fight title giving us mere mortals a great insight into why its best to tred carefully if ever found near a Japanese game centre with a pocket full of hundred Yen coins. You can almost feel the heat of the arcade, if not quite smell the body odour, as combatants give their heart and souls to be the undisputed champion.
Super Famicom
Simulation
US tanks running at a fair pace through the heat haze and over the sand dunes of a certain dessert based Gulf state. The cursor and cockpit view create the tank feel well and invoke sheer panic as shells rain in from sometimes unsighted sources.
Nintendo DS
Sports
Cast off a lakeside line and aim for a good spot on the map. The lure needs dragging along the water to tempt a passing bass into snaffling it up. Its there that the battle commences with the powerful bass to use technique and patience to land a battler. All without the whiff of groundbait and rollies.

Super Famicom
Action
Something about Bomberman just seemed to click on the Super Famicom and it fits the format like a Tokyo cab drivers white gloves. Perhaps it was the relatives limitations of the format that permitted Hudson to develop the series, rather than to try and invent the Bomberman genre as found on later platforms. Happy days.
Super Famicom
Action
Superb version of the seminal multiplayer title that is perfectly suited to the SFCs sprite powers. Tweaked to perfection without any superfluous power ups to unbalance the gameplay. And the purest form of gaming in multiplayer.
Super Famicom
Action
Fine use of the SFC’s palette and some n ice extras such as being able to ride kangaroos in order to zip around planting tactical bombs a little bit quicker. The tweaks never dominate a fine game that never needed fixing and add to the fun factor.

Super Famicom
Action
Happiness has nothing to do with a well known tobacco product. Happiness is Bomberman. Well at least it is when taking down ones nearest and dearest with a well place bomb punted across into their arena. Beautifully honed and with gameplay dripping from its silicon chips like mayonnaise on the potato variety in Holland.
Super Famicom
Puzzle
A varient on the Puyo Puyo theme with different coloured bomberman helmets requiring alignment before the obligatory boom. Four player matches are a blast as the screen accomodates all players at once.
Super Famicom
Sports
Reminiscent of League Bowling on the Neo Geo, Super Bowling uses the comic expression of the players avatars and light humour to keep the mood uplifting. Players must choose a line, then the spin and power meters must be used with a steady hand.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
RPG
Contains two playable demos of about one hour of Tengai Makyo II (including the lavish introduction sequence as well) and about two hours of Dragon Slayer. Nice little sample of two very good RPG’s.
Famicom Cart
Action
Players bop opponents utilising their martial skills in this ancient Chinese themed action title to try and clear the screen. Plenty of cliches in the hatchet men who attack and backgrounds, but it has its own style as such. Fun bonus levels too.
Famicom Cart
Action
Draws on ancient history as players do battle with oni style adversaries. Think of the Monkey series and those trying to lead them astray on their quest. The combat works well and its clear to see why it is a cherished with the rose-tinted retro glasses on.
Famicom Cart
RPG
This version has more going for it that didn’t make the cut for the English language release. Jammed full of Chinese cultural references, or at least Chinese culture from a Japanese perspective, it can be pretty zany at times.

Shoot Em Up
Outer space meets the Atlantic Ocean in this vintage series full of robotic aquatic creatures of the deep that appear to be rejected prototypes for Tomy’s latest toy range.
Super Famicom
Platform
Rare developed the Donkey Kong series with revolutionary, rendered, solid visuals squeezing high level performance out of the SFC and sleek play mechanics. Team work is essential to succeed with each monkey having their own special ability: Dixie can hover in the air thanks to her rotating pony tail, Diddy can roll through enemies to get out of a tight fix. Plenty of ropes, switches and barrels make the player develop primordial levels of inquisitiveness with the backgrounds toying with anything that looks remotely interactive. Its easy to see where the series continued to go from strength to strength without any slip ups.

And there are many bonus levels to complement the forced scrolling mine cart rides and toboggan runs to give good variety. There is also imaginative diversity in the end of level bosses making this a fine Caribbean feeling platformer.
