One on One Beat Em Up

Here we have all the games in the One on One Beat Em Up Section.
Super Famicom
One on One Beat Em Up
Very fresh visual effects as pugilists are concocted from spheres keeping the action fast with the fighters suppleness. Despite all combatants being composed of spheres there are a good mix of fighters each with their own special moves such as the Bulls charge.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
Ever thought you could better design the characters and moves in a fight title? This gives budding designers the chance to build their own fighters with mystery special moves. It also includes Enter Brains own pugilists for those happy to look for a bit of inspiration first.
Playstation
One on One Beat Em Up
Battle mode where you can take on anyone or Story mode full of scene setting cinematics where you play as Yuka chan. Very tasty graphics improving over the Super Famicom prequel. Also includes special moves that can only be utilised when on your last legs, evening up one sided bouts.
XBOX 360
One on One Beat Em Up
Warming the cockles of side on scrapper starved gamers comes the sequel to the anime expose to satisfy the most demanding of fight fans. The all female cast is reminiscent of the seminal Asuka series, but unfortunately such high-res graphics were never a possibility on the humble PC Engine. Presentation is spot on with a wee nod to the doujin fan and a fine story mode with pre-bout banter between the cat like ladies. The title comes from the Arcana power which is chosen to help each character get through the bout. Great to see the ladies are still doing it in 2D. Keep them coming we requested and our pleas have been answered.

One on One Beat Em Up
Colourful eye candy masking a brute of a fighting engine as Arc System get hands on to show off another addition to their fine fighting works. Another superb scrapper on their CV of many: the developer has really honed their fight engine to be awarded master status. The saccharine sweetness continues on in the anime presentation. Top of the class.
Super Famicom
One on One Beat Em Up
Neo – Geo classic giving the SFC architecture a full body work out. Mana from heaven for old school 2D grapple fans. Pushes the hardware to near breaking point, and whilst in can’t quite match the mega memory cart and sprite handling capabilities of its Neo Geo counterpart, KAC have pulled out all the stops to at least give it a black eye and thick lip. Play as Ryo or Robert on their quest to rescue Yuri from the clutches of bad guys in South Town.
Super Famicom
One on One Beat Em Up
Based on the manga with a rather curt name and a boy who transforms into a warrior worthy of the name when kissed by his heart throb, B@stard is a one on one fighter where the pugilists match up to each other in mid-air giving plenty of freedom of movement and making the mode 7 architecture work overtime. The fighters don’t come into contact as much, more long range projectile assaults are the order of the day to live up to the title. Subtitled ‘Ankoku no Hakaishin.’
Super Famicom
One on One Beat Em Up
Conan style fight fest with plenty of swords, axes and scantily clad ladies to battle against. Sammy has a good arcade heritage and the mechanics see that it shines through here.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
One on One Beat Em Up
Sci fi mecha based fighting game with solid visuals and cut scenes with English dialogue. Takes a high degree of joypad dexterity to master the special moves.
XBOX 360
One on One Beat Em Up
Seemingly having done a lot of homework, Arc System Works infuse their Guilty Gear skills along with Akiba, sleek styling, gothic, Harajuku fashion, huge scaled opponents of the quintessential Capcom, Saturn era classic X Men, even what looks like a ghost from Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. The depth in detail to the backgrounds with exquisite lighting is a sight to behold. But the all important engine, where fight titles are swept mercilessly to the floor or soar with a flying foot into the opposition, has been honed with the teams years of experience.
PS3
One on One Beat Em Up
Plenty of goading and eye catching backgrounds that distract from the smooth play mechanics honed by years of experience in sweeping all before it in the 2D fighting world.

Arc keeps the 2D torch burning bright as this illuminating fight fest celebrates all that is good in the genre. Akiba fashion culture permeates every pore, so much so you may wonder if it was developed in a maid café as a post club venue after the AKB48 concert. A fine celebration of joypad dexterity and visual pyrotechnics.

One on One Beat Em Up
Due to the game not supporting online play, this cunning pack comes with two copies of the game. So a gaming buddy has no excuse for not getting a good pasting. Looking very glitzy on the small screen full of neon and lushly shaded characters that would surely win any anime con.

One on One Beat Em Up
New meets old as stylish anime speed lines are spliced with traditional pilgrim hats, baggy, monk trousers all set to tatami mats and with atmospheric rain downpours. Some serious special moves that can blast your opponent across the entire, and sometimes lengthy, arenas. Great blend of action and specials spiced up with some sumptuous anime.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
Cracking fight title with clear, arcade style arrows making sure players know which one their fighter is in the middle of a melee. Four player bouts are a real scream, but the multi player action works just as well alone adding an extra dimension to the bout in having to keep an eye firmly focused on opponent fighters. The anime license adds a real varnish of classy sheen to an already well polished, triple A title.
PSP
One on One Beat Em Up
The huge series has its roots here, but its hardly a humble first edition with delicious cel shaded sprites and plenty of visual pyrotechnics to truly cross the bridge between anime and gaming, even if it looks more like the bridge between the living and underworld at times. The PSP was designed for titles like this.
PSP
One on One Beat Em Up
Ten colourful characters with two more unlockable in this veritable showcase for the PSP’s processing prowess with crisp, cel shaded graphics straight out of the smash anime series. Add to that the speed lines and the over the top special moves and you have a must buy for anime fight fans.
PSP
One on One Beat Em Up
Bringing the intensity of the manga source material to the PSP and looking droolingly swish: full of colour, spped lines and streamlined cel shaded graphics making it like savouring the anime version at times. New moves and modes with the pizzaazz of the spirit attacks thankfully remaining in tact.
PSP
One on One Beat Em Up
With a mighty cast of around seventy characters and over fifty of those playable, there’s certainly plenty to get your teeth and fists into in this latest instalment of the chic, cel shaded combat extravaganza. Looks can indeed kill and the in game action has the feel of the anime – a definite thumbs up.
PSP
One on One Beat Em Up
The anime’s distinct and sometimes creepy look with lurchingly tall characters has carried over effortlessly and the whole production oozes the sort of vintage claret class you’d expect from the series. Two player tag battles are a joy with what look like extras from Spirited Away but the lightening gameplay gives little opportunity to admire the scenery.

Riding on the mighty sweep Street Fighter II unleashed on the 16Bit gaming world, Brass Numbers would have a good swing at Capcom’s cash cow. Telenet’s idy parallax scrolling is complemented by a few touches of its own in players being allowed to choose their next opponent and also being able to use their rewards earnt in bouts to boost their vital stats. Known as Doomsday Warrior in the West.

Lauded by many of gaming’s cognoscenti for it’s stance of one hit, one kill. Requires the patience and zen of a true samurai.

One on One Beat Em Up
A real fight fest for fans of the genre with both incarnations of Capcom vs SNK, Rival Schools, Fighting Jam, Street Fighter Zero 3, along with Star Gladiator plus double incarnations of Power Stone for a bit less-intense, more chuck away action. A real treat for those that appreciate Capcom’s eye for detail and spit and polish. Just hope you aren’t spitting teeth after a run in with some of these bad boys.

Super Famicom
One on One Beat Em Up
Roughly translating as ‘Super Big Brother’, this is the closest you get to the Village People on a console! Highly imaginative, very wacky digitised graphics to the point where you’ll wonder if shiitake are the only mushrooms the creators have been having in their miso soup. Drifts away from the shooting action of its predecessors for a one on one fist fest taking place in mid air – reassuringly with female characters too. Although the fart attacks are no way to treat a lady.
