Shoot Em Up
Wonderful to have the shooter torch passed on burning so brightly. Its just a shame you are not given a split second to appreciate the detailed sprites and parallax layers. And it is a shame you might wish for the absent slowdown in some levels such is the frantic pace of the on screen onslaught. Five levels of mayhem: please remember to keep an eye out for the pigs that need rescuing.
PC Engine Super Grafx
Shoot Em Up
One of only three SG blast fests and with the other two being Aldynes and 1941, Battle Ace was always going to be hard pushed to jostle for a place higher up the winners podium. Still BA makes a valiant attempt opting for an an internal Elite style view out from your space ship. The gameplay is far less cerebral than Braben’s opus, more on the lines of After Burner’s Top Gun triggger happy gameplay. Perhaps just pushing the Super Grafx hardware a little too far? But good for a short arcade style thrill. Complete with slip card case and registration card. Slight creases on manual edge. Slight peel on spine of Hu Card case sticker. Light scuffing to card slip as is common.
Playstation

Conan style fight fest with plenty of swords, axes and scantily clad ladies to battle against. Sammy has a good arcade heritage and the mechanics see that it shines through here.
Famicom Cart
Action
Plenty of tributes to its mighty back catalogue in game for the discerning gamer. Taking out tanks that appear in the maze means keeping a keen eye out for where they will appear, if in control of the skirmish. Otherwise it means grabbing those freeze power ups or blasting a whole in the maze to sit in, perhaps even behind camouflage.
Super Famicom

The Battletoad games are very collectable and its easy to see why in this Rare crafted version. Cliched some of the locations may be, but when the execution is of such high standard its easy to see why they become much imitated and rarely bettered. Fun, wholesome action that squeezes every iota out of the hardware.
Playstation
Rhythm
The original, the one, the only… Show you got riddum in the comfort of your own home. Strangly addictive in a Parappa the Rapper stylie.

Playstation
Rhythm
Genki recalls the millennium and the crowds a fine practitioner of Beatmania could pull as players tap and scratched their way to DJ-ing glory. Not that we ever had much rhythm, but back in the day we could certain toe tap with Shinjuku’s game centre’s finest.
Playstation
Rhythm
The beat goes on with this funky update from those cool cats at Konami with some sublime, psychedelic visuals to distract you from keeping in sync with the tune. The Japanese DJ-ing equivalent of Smashy and Nicey seem to have snuck in there too, along with some tougher tracks to make this a very tidy update.
Super Famicom

The imagination into the graphical effects sets the atmospheric powder keg off a treat such as with the lashing rain. And our beloved beast is a versatile creature ensuring the player soon warms to his dexterous manoeuvres.

Playstation
Sports
Fine ball physics and interesting characters to play against, including the Train Spotting look a like Timothy. Players must be wary of getting hustled when greenbacks are on the table. Not sure what Ronnie would make of the fast-paced soundtrack between shots mind.
PS2
Sports
Billiards or pool done very well – the ball physics seem perfect, but alas you can’t bump the table to get the ball to drop in. Old school pool hall where you can almost smell the cigarette smoke hanging in the air alongside the inoffensive lift tunes.
