Super Famicom
Action
Protect the house from the burglars trying to pilfer what they can by getting there first and using a bit of well directed force in this video game stake of the huge Hollywood smash. Kevin leaps around the house with plenty of well placed platforms to obtain hard to reach items.
Super Famicom
Sports
Live the F1 dream in this popular Super Famicom split screen racer with appropriately noisy engine effects. An early release and much coverted by the early adopters of the SFC at the time.
Super Famicom
Sports
Suitably whiny engines and break neck speeds exploiting Mode 7 like the manufacturers make the most of their cars. Classic old school racing with the simpler pick up and play mechanics many pine for.
Super Famicom
Sports
Mode 7 made for such a game with the engine revs blaring out. Effortlessly copes with the split screen multiplayer too – impressive results putting the hardware top of the podium.
Super Famicom
RPG
Incredibly off beat and to be applauded for it making Mother 2 look very straight laced, middle America. The inventory system places value on clothing as opposed to amour and the modern world setting in itself makes for an unusual approach compared to the more common fantasy theme. Very tidy screen representation of the gaming world with a distinctly Japanese feel to the game. Subtitled Day of the Idea.
Super Famicom
Sports
Comforting nineties feel to the tennis with the simplistic graphical set up making in far more playable that representations of the sport that swoop around more than the hawk scaring off seagulls at Wimbledon.
Super Famicom
Sports
Side perspective football game with Japan’s top flight teams and totally over the top SNK style goal celebrations. Fabulous four player scraps are possible with a multitap and the game is also Barcode Battler II compatible, so get scanning those macaroni packets to boost your star striker.
Super Famicom
Sports
Side perspective football game with top tier teams and PK mode seen from both keepers and strikers perspective. Fabulous four player scraps are possible with a multitap and the game is also Barcode Battler II compatible, so get scanning those cans of Baked Beans.
Super Famicom
Sports
Taken from the J League in its prime, Namcot blend a zippy, arcade style football game with some crazy cut scenes as players must outwit their opponent and nick the ball past them.
Super Famicom
Sports
Nice arcade flow to the play with nice crowd effects and over the top celebrations to goals, including replays which were quite unheard of at the time.
Super Famicom
Platform
A very colourful and little known platformer with a very manipulative jelly ball as our hero. The malleable nature of the protagonist makes for some fine platform manoeuvres. Interludes from the levels are set in small towns and even under the sea with whales to help players unwind. Known as Smartball in the West and also Jelly Boy.
Super Famicom
RPG
Certainly bizarre as players pick a card and go through a sim style battle with a rich wealth of characters that wouldnt look out of place in the mystic field on day three of Glastonbury. Colourful and true to the unusual source material.
Super Famicom
Platform
Colourful, comic capers as Kid Clown avoids the hazards of his chosen occupation with exploding bombs, rolling logs and hurricane winds all sent to blow him off his isometric level course.
Super Famicom
Action
Impressive Takara conversion that doesn’t have the full clout of the Neo Geo version, but considering the hardware and lack of memory, the results are mightily impressive. Tidy controls as players crash down buildings on each other as well as utilising their monsters special manoeuvres.
Super Famicom
One on One Beat Em Up
Destroy cities whilst wrestling Godzilla like monsters in this commendable conversion of the Neo Geo classic. Towering skyscrapers can be tossed at opponents and each monster has its own special energy zapping move. Pesky humans interfere but can easily be dispatched with a swipe of the tail.
Super Famicom
Sports
A clever cross between a golf and bowling game where Kirby bashes into adversaries eventually the defeated boss turning into a hole. The control is very simple yet in true Nintendo tradition, the gameplay excels. Superb stuff.
Super Famicom
Platform
The pinnacle of the series on the system as HAL proves itself a crack unit within the Nintendo umbrella. Some seriously motivated programming that manipulates immense performance out of the hardware. The gameplay is a delight with Kirby able to hover above the ground to gain that extra height with which to pummel the bosses be it giant whales or a Robocop ED209 look a like. Known as Kirby Super Star in the West.

Super Famicom
Puzzle
A fine action puzzle title as players take on the role of the Simpson’s Krusty the Clown and direct mice to meet their maker, thanks to Bart, in the platform levels. Tactical blocks must be added and removed to get the mice to where you want them and the difficulty level gets gradually cranked up. Some good posters strewn through the levels to remind us of the licenses charm. But Krusty is, of course, always a great ambassador for clowns.
Super Famicom
Sports
Kunio’s charm comes to the dodgeball court as players avoid being hit by the ball in arenas such as the ice of Iceland, waters of the Taj Mahal, Mount Fuji and London with Big Ben in the background. Classic retro gaming in a very cult series.
Super Famicom
RPG
Miyamato’s masterpiece deserves every superlative ever heaped on it, yet it remains as humble as lead character Link. A wonderful story that shines bright like one of the torches in the castle’s darkest, dank gaming dungeons. Miyamoto’s dream world turned into a gaming reality for all to behold. The finest RPG ever?
Super Famicom
RPG
Charming RPG that allows players to traverse its many terrains in groups and has off-beat character designs. The graphical effects are impressive to convey the magic spells or even the flight of a dragon across its gaming world. The musical score is top notch too and overall the game very much has its own feel. Also known as Paladins Quest in the West.
Super Famicom
Platform
A rare cart in Japan with the unlikely hero looming large on the screen as he traverses through various platform locales: beach, graveyard and finally jungle to complete his quest with a hint of double entendre. Known as Odekake Lester or Lester the Unlikely in the West.
Super Famicom
Platform
As one might expect from a Disney backed title, the animation is incredible as Simba progresses from canny cub into lion with the ability to claw at enemies. The stampede section has made it in as a side scrolling scramble at break neck speeds and there are plenty of nice touches that go to make a platformer stand out from the crowd, or pride.

Super Famicom
Simulation
Falcom produced strategy war game which is a continuation of the Dragon Slayer series. Set in a cutesy, medieval Europe allowing the developer plenty of license for the fantasy setting.
Super Famicom
Platform
Bright and breezy platformer in the traditional 16Bit style with bold, colourful characters full of well-animated expression. In an unusual twist Taruroto uses his tongue to eat blocks and whack away enemies. Recommended to fans of the genre. Subtitled Magic Adventure.
Super Famicom
RPG
A seemingly everyday kid setting to this RPG, if it wasn’t for the legions of fly crossed with men like adversaries. Things quickly get more and more bizarre as Genki is reaching for the Helen McCarthy guide to the cultural references.
Super Famicom
A Bit Special
Paint package for the Nintendo which utilises the mouse very well and has slick presentation as you’d expect for a Nintendo title. As a Mario game very collectable too. Not only drawing facilities but you can produce animations and music too with colour in pictures of Mario for the less budding artists. Also includes an insect swatting game to improve mouse skills.
Super Famicom
Simulation
A nice Mario collectable with picture related puzzles and animated pictures all created with the ease of a Nintendo user friendly interface. The naughty Wario pops up adding a bit of mischief to the arty mix.
