Sega Saturn
Shooter
Subtitled Music is the Weapon. Aerosmith offer encouragement to players in the form of their on screen, FMV persona and also in terms of their back catalogue which gets a good airing. Players control the on screen cursor and must take down the bad guys often using a flying CD as ammo. Lots of digitisation and no doubt air guitars, if given a brief respite during this nineties coin-op shooter.
Playstation
RPG
Kenji Eno’s opus caused a real stir in the gaming world at the time of its release. This game involves choosing various options such as to open a drawer or door to try and get to the bottom of why Laura’s father has murdered a patient in the hospital he works. Unnerving action at times as the gaming world warps like a psychotic episode.
Playstation
Shooter
ine interpretation of Ridley Scot’s dark, organic world full of aliens with acid for blood. Moves very well, but not as fast as Genki when one of those critters scurries after us.
Super Famicom
One on One Beat Em Up
One on one fighter released in a area of CG effects becoming de rigueur for a CD format release. The clanking robots have good variety and the riffs inspire a bit more perseverance with the fight engine.
Super Famicom
Action
The flexible and sometimes dispensable nature of the Crash Dummies make them perfect to platforming. Being able to inflate also helps get through tricky spots in this overlooked platformer. Full title: The Incredible Crash Dummies.
Super Famicom
Puzzle
A fine action puzzle title as players take on the role of the Simpson’s Krusty the Clown and direct mice to meet their maker, thanks to Bart, in the platform levels. Tactical blocks must be added and removed to get the mice to where you want them and the difficulty level gets gradually cranked up. Some good posters strewn through the levels to remind us of the licenses charm. But Krusty is, of course, always a great ambassador for clowns.
Super Famicom
Action
Genki loves the 16 Bit Simpson titles and they are quite cult collectables in Japan with a possible lower print run due to the series being not as well known there. Yet Acclaim has really let their imagination run riot as Bart heads off on his virtual reality missions. Examples include whizzing down a water slide and cycling off into the mode 7 distance avoiding Homer on his chariot. Bart is also converted into a pig to avoid the chop from Krusty and free fellow swine. Crackling stuff.
Mega Drive
Sports
Arcade style play mechanics with international teams, cat like keepers and prima donna strikers. Simple to pick up and play but very enjoyable as a result.
Super Famicom
Sports
Cast a few lines off your boat with newly acquired tackle from the shop and the screen cleverly splits to the above and under surface views. Patience and good tactics are a requisite but the lovely water flowing effect and the chance of bagging a big bass will appeal to the fisherman in all of us.
PS2
Sports
Enjoying success on the N64 Acclaim brought its happy hitting baseball game to the PS2 with an enormous polygon count bringing out impressive levels of realism. Yet the gameplay hedges more towards the big sluggers than other baseball titles with plenty of home run potential. Not every other hit though, but the balance is just right to keep that special big hit feel. Players faces have some great expressions helping get involved in the games up and down emotions.
