Nintendo DS
RPG
Anything that the hand of Studio Ghibli touches screams animated gold and this emotive RPG is no exception. Right from the start Oliver sheds a tear wishing his mother would return and its the emotional investment in this exquisitely animated adventure that makes it so worthwhile. The accompanying Magic Book contains simple drawings that can be copied onscreen to unleash powerful attacks in the Final Fantasy style battle sequences. Miyazaki’s characters seem to almost transcend language and speak from the heart. Unless of course we are just trying to gloss over this being Japanese language… Yet should this fail to make a translation, to miss out on it would surely be the more heinous crime…
Switch
Action
Attaining new levels with its all out action gameplay as the player’s mech is often dwarfed by the ginormous bosses that need to be taken down. The sense of destruction and the all out pyrotechnic action make for an adrenalin filled, explosion-a-minute thrill.

PSP
Action
Its easy to see where Danball’s success has sprung from with the simple concept of battling model robots. Players pop along to the friendly model shop and the latest figures can be kitted out to battle around the varying arenas. However the combat itself is demanding and the intuitive controls help gain much kudos amongst your pals.
PS2
RPG
With characters looking like they were inspired by George Lucas blended with a few He Man extras up against the worms from the film Dune, Rogue Galaxy certainly has plenty to offer. The action is very hands on with the space age setting refreshing and adding an element of the unknown to the RPG-esque action.
PSP
Action
Hugely successful series in its native Japan and this PSP update utilises everything that has made the game the success it is. The model based robots have never looked so luscious in their cel shaded glory and the ability to run around the main shopping street before popping into battle world keeps the gaming varied. Yet its the combat where this excels to levels to keep the most demanding otaku happy.
