This helicopter rescue game positively zips along with a very impressive sense of depth. Yet players need to keep a keen eye on the foreground as tanks and turrets try to take out your tail blade. Good variation in locales: from city to mountain via dessert and cavernous lagoon.

Very tidy ball mechanics and nice power ups in the shop make for a fine pinball game. The RPG fantasy theme throws bosses into the mix besides the power ups and the levels are themed with gargoyles and skeletons in keeping with the theme. Super table top flipper fun.

Great innovation on the Galaxian or Space Invader theme that sees the players ship progressing forward given a sense of momentum by the 3D style scrolling landscape below. The shooting action has tight collision detection and some great, old school sound effects.

RPG
Similarities to Goemons escapades as players must negotiate the hoards of enemy fighters but then be rewarded for a hard days work with a stay in a traditional Japanese inn. The use of Ninjutsu makes good use of the ninja element to the game and separates it from the fantasy RPG genre with a more traditional, ancient Japanese setting.

Genki Gurus will know it only takes a few Japanese ghosts, a wise sage and a few ninjas and Genki is sold on the concept. Where Ja Ja excels is utilising a smaller player character to allow so much going on on screen. A superb conversion and a tip top example of the genre. Oh, did we mention riding on giant frogs?

Players charge along the lunar or desert landscapes with a keen trigger finger a requisite to progress. The impression of motion is very nicely done and the land based sections are spliced with horizontally scrolling shoot em up levels.

Brings back the gaming fun with a unique twist on the platform genre in that it is played by a car. Drivers must cover as many of the platform levels as possible and in doing so complete the road they drive over. Some mightily impressive sprite rotation techniques as the players car changes direction or it fires a bullet into the pursuing police cars to spin them out of control. Nice backgrounds too with the Statue of Liberty and Big Ben guesting.

Gaining entry to the winners paddock involves plenty of hard slog in the wind and rain before feeling the sun on your back and the taste of sweet champagne in the enclosure.

An old school coin op style to the gameplay as our Ninja hops upwards to try and gain vertical ground up the screen. Cheeky oni enemies and nasty ninjas try and hinder progress, but a well-dispatched shuriken assists to put paid to them. And the gratitude of the little obachan at having hoped from wall to wall up the well makes it all worthwhile.

Although they are cover versions the game features an impressive list of bands: ZARD, B’z, Ayumi Hamasaki, Aiko, Globe, Hide, and Mai Kuraki amongst other equally illustrious artists. Fun and full of funky toe tapping tunes.
