Power Drift was a monster of a mechanised, car based coin-op released in the late eighties. Asmik has done an honourable job of the conversion, keeping the jostle for positions and this remains a fun reminder of a golden era of Sega arcade dominance.

Beautifully illustrated in the style of crayons, think Yoshi’s Island for the Famicom. The character sprites are all very cute and the tunes are upbeat in keeping with the action. The dino hero’s ability to roll adds to his versatility. A Japanese flavour to the action too with walking riceballs and cartoony squids.

Dogfight plane game with souped up mach speed frame rate making a cool hand a requisite.
Super Famicom
Shoot Em Up
Old school shooter with big, bad bosses filling up most the screen that require taking down bit by bit. The unique feature is the ability to be able to shift altitudes to avoid confronting the meaner looking machines gunning for you which adds a nice tactical element to the battle. An enjoyable blast.

RPG
Charming RPG that allows players to traverse its many terrains in groups and has off-beat character designs. The graphical effects are impressive to convey the magic spells or even the flight of a dragon across its gaming world. The musical score is top notch too and overall the game very much has its own feel. Also known as Paladins Quest in the West.
Mega Drive
RPG
An RPG of fine fettle which takes a realistic approach in that the hero must get sufficient food and rest to stay alive. Items add to the weight lugged around and slow the progress down. And any overnight sortie out of the relative safety of the town requires sufficient planning to survive. The visuals are small so its possible to see a wide area of the gaming world at once. The soundtrack is sublime too to make up for any disappointment with the small-scale sprites. Plenty of heart in this one.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
An anime adventure with similarities to Ranma 1/2 in which the jewels scattered over earth have to be rounded up – a bit like Dragon Ball Z. Anime otakus will enjoy the lavishly illustrated graphics that play as the anime series with a choice of options during the stills.
