PC Engine Super CD ROM
Puzzle
Puyo Puyo is Japanese onomatopoeia for something soft to touch, such as the jelly like balls that fall from the sky to be aligned with similar colours in this saccharine soaked, kawaii puzzler.
PC Engine HU Card
Shooter
Nicely done conversion of the arcade smash, unfortunately missing the Uzi controller. Uses a cross hair marker instead of light gun in a similar vein to the Neo Geo classic Nam 75. The gun toting hero is hard as nails.
PC Engine HU Card
Platform
Take control of Monkey with his extendable staff and do battle all manner of evil monsters on your quest to find the holy Buddhist scriptures. Bail out Pigsy and Sandy for womanising countless times too. Genki recommended.
PC Engine HU Card
Shooter
Bold attempt by NEC to bring the de rigueur coin op of the era back to the home comfort of the PC Engine. And whilst the Virtual Cushion may not match the hydraulics of the arcade original, the 3D top down and in screen graphics have been suitably transferred across. The action is thick and fast and ThunderBlade adds another feather in the Engines arcade collection.
PC Engine CD ROM
Shoot Em Up
Very solid 2D shooter in the mould of Last Resort on the Neo-Geo. Has some very tasty cut scenes and a plot involving a brain in a box.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Action
Stunning conversion of the Capcom arcade version and unfortunately as rare as rocking horse dung. Loses a few of the parallax layers and the two player option, but thats about all. Genki wishes all the Dynasty Warrior series were this much fun as you steam into to Mongolian hordes sword aloft on horseback in a plot losely based on Chinese mythology.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Puzzle
The classical Chinese title game made infinitely more easy on the eye with an abundance of beach babes. Be warned though – these ladies will try anything to distract players from making the right moves.
PC Engine CD ROM
A Bit Special
Genki isn’t too sure how a Stock, Aitken and Waterman track snuck onto this karaoke compilation but True Love, Waku Waku and Mugo are all fine, cheery J Pop tracks. The lyrics are included in the manual to help brush up with some eighties, bubble era classics.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Simulation
Digital comic adventure requiring knowledge of Japanese writing or good luck to be able to progress. Lots of anime babes to converse with and good voice acting. One for the Japanese dating scholars?
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Simulation
A rare title in that it captures the atmosphere of the Japanese high school classroom. Similar to the Spectrum classic “School Daze” in the sense that being naughty is much more fun than studying, yet likely to end in failure to graduate.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Simulation
Update of the school life simulation. Too much fun and too little study causes headaches for both you and your teachers, so striking a balance is essential. Similar to the Spectrum classic “School Daze”.
