Super Famicom
Sports
SD football at its finest with shrunken versions of Gundam and Kamen Rider nipping down the wing to use their super-human powers to rise like a canary and ripple the onion net. Plenty of futuristic stadiums to choose from.
PS2
A Bit Special
Super gal Haruhi once again stars with a voice to melt the Cadbury’s Caramel bunny in this love adventure where players also get to make their own game. Superb high standards to the figure that comes as part of the package too matching the voice acting.
PS2
Action
A fine stealth title as Lupin once again goes after the loot and Fujiko uses her booty. Creeping past infra red beams and sneaking by guards is the order of the day as whilst it is possible to fight, its best not to draw too much attention. A delightful series and worthy gaming translation. Just try not humming the theme tune.
Merchandise
Merchandise
The bug-eyed Kamen Rider world has stood the test of time due to its intriguing characters and these figures are a fitting tribute to its charming cast.
Merchandise
Merchandise
The Ozma Lee series featuring well-produced and designed characters from the Macross series including Ozma Lee, Ranka Lee, Cheryl Nome, Osanshosan and Nyan Nyan.
PS2
RPG
Fine, frantic RPG with colourful as the avatar representatives with plenty of special moves in the combat to surprise even the most seasoned of RPG veterans.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
Yusuke was always a tough lad at school having had a rough upbringing before he was killed saving a child at fourteen. He then enters the spirit world where he can thankfully carry on dishing out beatings as in this fight fest brought from the skilled art house of Banpresto. Reminiscent of Bleach in terms of artistic style, the series’ characters come to life on the PS2.
PC Engine Super CD ROM
Simulation
GS Mikami has plenty of Shinto inspired high jinx as Mikami links the modern world with a spiritual universe. Plenty of cultural confusion reminiscent of a Rumiko Takahashi manga escapade. Great humour and with plenty of options.
PS2
Simulation
Based on the hit manga series that was made into a popular live action drama starring the young conductor and the affections of Megumi Noda or the Nodame of the title. The game involves conducting the orchestra with a few choice clicks making for perfect swishes. The quirkiness of the manga shines through in the adventure sections with the studious Chiaki the attention of more than just Nodames attention.
Playstation
A Bit Special
Enjoy the company of a dog and cat in the garden by feeding them, playing ball or even sending out a remote control car for them to chase round and round.
PS2
Action
Loveable rogue Lupin on the run again avoiding the authorities by dishing out some rough justice with a frying pan in true comic style. Lupin also stays under the noses of the incompetent police by pinching uniforms to aid his escape. A fine 3D action adventure with the classical musical score adding to its cut-above feel. Also known as Lupin III Majutsu-Ou no Isan.
Sega Saturn
Board Game
Incredibly atmospheric representation of the Japanese table game Shogi due to the cracking avatars and superb voice acting. Mind you, Genki wouldnt like to meet a few of the players down a back alley having just knocked them out of the competition in the Tokyo Dome.
Playstation
Sports
Has a graphical look like Little Big Adventure with all the associated razzmatazz you would associate with the game – so much so you can almost smell the hot dogs.
GameBoy Color
Simulation
Enjoy the escapades of Monkey Luffy, a pirate with potent powers from eating the cursed Gum-Gum Fruit, and his hearties in this game packed full of maritime frolics and high jinx just like its anime counterpart. Bizarre doesn’t begin to explain the action with beautiful animation as expected from a giant of the anime world. Subtitled ‘The Phantom Grand Line Adventure.’
PS2
RPG
Not quite the charter granted by King John to acknowledge rights and roles, yet it does get a mention as the power that can overcome all others in this fantasy RPG. Players roam the lands with female characters taking a strong lead as the in game artists show us their fair hand with some beautiful work.
Super Famicom
Simulation
Beautifully drawn tactical RPG with metal hulks taking on mecha robots. Attains a real high graphical standard on the SFC. Switches to a boxing style perspective aswell as the isometric strategic part with player avatar.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Giant mechs wrestling for supremacy in this finely tuned sequel. Carefully select your team depending on the task ahead to dominate earth and space.
PS2
RPG
Lavishly illustrated avatars full of emotion (especially where Genki is concerned as we seem to keep upsetting the ladies with our choice of retorts) and detailed backgrounds. All very appropriate for the exquisite isometric perspective gameworld that will see players battling from rogue sailors on a galleon what looked like washed up ghosts from Pacman on a beach.
Dreamcast
Simulation
The isometric battles work a treat, interspersed nicely with the Macross style anime’s of snappy haircuts and dramatic dialogue.
Super Famicom
Side Scrolling Beat Em Up
Playable as either Gundam F-91 or Ultraman Great in super deformed, squashed down style this title also stars Kamen Rider Balck EX of the rich host of anime related characters on show. Side scrolling fighting action with added fireball move to lash out at the bizarre bunch of imaginative alien assailiants inspired by the Ultraman and Gundam series.
Super Famicom
Action
Varied gaming action from scrolling platform shooting sections to whizzing around on a motorbike with only a small spotlight to guide the way. Great mix of Gundam and Kamen Rider characters.
Nintendo 64
Action
Robot Wars stars a host of recognisable robots from animes such as Gundam or Mazinger Z used to good effect with their trademark moves and soundtracks kicking in at the right moment. Players battle other robots and the money earnt can be used on upgrades or simple repairs ready for the next battle.
Merchandise
Merchandise
Crayon Shichan is a popular character in Japan. Not too sure on his pose here, but best not to ask too many questions of this fine plush.
GameBoy Original
RPG
Big, bold sprites allow the gender bending Takakhashi manga to come to life on the GameBoy. Plenty of exploring and a dash of fisticuffs in this fine conversion of the intriguing source material.
Playstation
Simulation
The prequel to the yellow label ‘Bakuretsu Hunter R’ is a lot tamer, but still plenty to recommend here to anime fans.
Sega Saturn
Puzzle
Fans of the Jaguar CD may be as rare as the snow leopard, but those familiar with the add on may recognise this as Baddies given a Japanese make over by Banpresto. Players control little bald dudes within their own world in a fun simulation that certainly cant be accused of taking itself too seriously.
Super Famicom
Platform
Fun packed final instalment as bad boy Ackman scraps his way through the platform levels with plenty of imaginative and colourful enemies reminiscent of PC Kid on the Engine. Does contain some Japanese language story, but not really essential to gameplay.
Playstation
Sports
Even Genki is not seasoned enough to have good memories of Mini Moni, but fans of AKB48 (though this number may have changed!) And Morning Musume will know the sweet J Pop on offer. The Kids Station controller simplifies the buttons from the control pad making for simple mini games, but plenty of fun.
PS2
Simulation
This instalment of the legendary robot series led to a full animated version, such was its popularity in Japan. The battles remain immense and fully intense with anime style productions skills to hike up the tension and emotion. Ann epic battle sim and manna from heaven for Taisen devotees.
Figures
Figure
Coming as a real treat for fans of the loveable rogue Lupin are these two well crafted PVC figures. Its nice that manufacturers reward preorder customers with such goodies, especially when of such high quality. Lupins charm and cheek shines through with Fujiko san looking typically stylish.
PS2
Sports
A football game which gets under the running of a club, not merely management. Dealing with flying boots can seem a lot easier than walking the tight rope of press conferences and hard to please Prima Donna strikers.
Super Famicom
Action
A platform setting for a fight based title in the action sense as players whop each other round the screen. Made special by a few familiar looking mechs appearing along side a shrunk down Devilman. Fun, action based title well worth a look.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Giant mechs battling with all the panache shown in the anime series. Carefully select your team depending on the task ahead to dominate earth and space.
Merchandise
DVD
Super Robot Taisen is a very long running epic from Japanese shores and this DVD is just as full of the high tension and dedication from the programmers that make the series super. Subtitled Ultimate Giga Disc.
Merchandise
Merchandise
A celebration of Super Robot Taisen, a series that even has a discerning following abroad. The disk allows owners to construct their own battle scenes in full glory anime style complete with ginormous explosions and plenty of speed lines.
Super Famicom
Sports
SD football at its finest with shrunken versions of Gundam and Kamen Rider nipping down the wing to use their super human powers to rise like a canary and ripple the onion net. Plenty of futuristic stadiums to choose from.
Nintendo DS
Simulation
Taking characters and inspiration from many anime series including Gundam Seed, Super Robo sees plenty of battle against rival mechs with even more pre bout bravado. Combat is intuitive and the battles whiz along as the robot school proves a little too cramped for so many famous machines.
Gamecube
Action
A fun, all-action racing game with super deformed characters from the Ultraman and Kamen Rider roster making up the majority of the starting line with other well know live action heroes thrown in to the mull. Courses take a variety of routes even through homes and the bath house at times and the emphasis is on fun rather than a serious race. And the humour combined with the colourful look produce a worthy import cracker. Can be translated as Bike Hero.
GameBoy Advance
RPG
Playable as Gash, some familiar faces from the anime series pop up along the way including Megumi and Folgore. Lavishly illustrated as you’d expect from an anime license and suiting the GBA perfectly, Gash can collect bookmark power ups to be used later to battle the big bosses awaiting.
GameBoy Advance
RPG
Take contol of the funky Jiisan (or middle age man) in this off beat action RPG quest to find the missing manga in which our main man can transform into fourteen different and comical Jiisan variations. Captures the madness of the manga excellently. Four player link up play possible. Subtitled ‘Ikari no Oshioki Blues.’
Playstation
Puzzle
Fans of the Jaguar CD may be as rare as the snow leopard, but those familiar with the add on may recognise this as Baddies given a Japanese make over by Banpresto. Players control little bald dudes within their own world in a fun simulation that certainly cant be accused of taking itself too seriously.
PS2
Action
Massive battles and ginormous towering mecha that dwarf certain robots make this a must for the Macross or Gundam fan. Expertly executed gaming world with devastating weaponry to help rip it up. Vast variety of mecha and missions with some unlockable make this a titanium top tip for the import enthusiast.
PS2
Simulation
The series that takes mecha fans into a dream stratosphere where hulking beasts of machines battle for supremacy of the skies with ginormous laser blasts leaving tracers in the darkened outer space skies and over the top emotional avatars screaming in response. Truly big in Japan.
Playstation
Sports
A skydiving game which allows participants to remain air born longer than rival divers by pulling off dare devil tricks. The victorious diver is the one who pulls the rip cord last – thus the diver who has performed most stunts. In game tricks are graded according to their complexity with the real big ones requiring a few successful combos to grind to a near in-air halt. The game produces a good sense of velocity as players hurtle back towards earth.
